@@Amaling My point is the game is super old yet people still find this groundbreaking stuff that changes the game. What does ult have? Attack cancel? Yeah theres cool tech but when compared to the groundbreaking stuff in melee it puts in to prespective how the game doesnt allow creativity.
It's more the game engine is so dependent on momentum, and being able to adjust it, much like how a classical platformer works. Since players can adjust their hit trajectory on hit, you can then take advantage of this to put yourself in a position that is favorable. At first this was just making it harder for players to combo, but as people get further and further into the game, you can then start taking advantage of hitstun canceling states, such as taking an airborne fox shine by buffering jump which will cancel hitstun on landing on the ground, or crouch canceling through di down. From there and the discovery of being able to automatically smash di, it kind of blew open the door in regards to defensive options, since you can actually move your character while they're being hit, leading to multiple DI inputs, and extremely favorable hit trajectories. From there it's all about figuring out how to get into a hitstun canceling state from a getting hit position. (Ground to air, (Slide off) and air to ground (ASDI CC) are the two big state changes we know of right now during hitstun) You can then couple this with momentum reducing or delaying states such as airborne shine, bucket, tech rolls, etc, to live to some very high percentages.
Did you buffer missed tech rolls when you were testing? I believe there are differences in whether you fall off the edge or not based on if you buffer the input out of missed tech or if you wait a moment before inputting it, but idk if that affects ECB as well.
I've been doing this by accident for years...I like crouch canceling and this just co-exists because I often hold diagonal to crouch for pre-prep wave dash
Geez. Those SDI and diagonal ASDI techniques are nutty! The next time I watch a match I'm def going to be looking for it Also now Puffs are now gonna start mixing in rest at like 20%
Throughout this whole video, in the back of my mind I'm remembering when Scar was on Excellent Adventures, which you all should watch as it's hilarious, and he said there were no scientists in Melee. It was such a blatantly wrong statement then, as people like Mew2King obviously figured stuff out the hard way, and it's exponentially wrong now, but I'm sure he's admitted his mistake. Just a funny thought going through my head. I don't think I could ever dislike Scar, he's a good guy.
I can't get the slideoffs against Fox upair when I'm practicing it with Falco in 20xx even though I'm using the same inputs that are shown here at 13:26. I've also tried lots of different inputs. Is it sometimes just impossible depending on which drift Fox has, which way he is facing, or which part of the techroll Falco is in?
For the fox uair situation, would falco not be able to shine in between the 2 hits of uair if he becomes airborne after the first hit rather then trying to slide off after the second hit?
I’m just a casual player that can at least SHFFL, but sometimes I wonder why someone would intentionally floorhug. If you knew you were about to get hit, why wouldn’t you shield or even spotdodge?
Sick video Hax! Im practicing Slide off up air but does anyone know the timing of doing this or how to do is since you have to hold the c stick downwards?

You should be saying farther not further, farther refers to physical space while further refers to a concept. Further in a career, farther on the platform etc

For the first half of the video I tried hard to understand what he was saying and convince myself I was capable of possibly implementing a small fraction of the content but then I gave up🤯
As great as these videos are, I don't see why you opt for the clickbaity titles. It will make it really obnoxious to go back and find that one video you wanted to share. Either way, amazing stuff, I absoluetly love the level of technical detail and presentation!
All hax is capable of doing is flexing his phds that he doesn’t even have a job for. It’s like being a doctor with no one in the world to work on or help .. hahahahaha
Maybe melee is actually just Pai Sho? Is the melee back room actually a secret intelligence agency planning on overtaking the international political oligopoly? The world may never know 🤔
I understand the process of how you title your videos in terms of wanting to get views and what-have-you, but I hope you consider a more efficient way of naming / re-naming your videos as you continue to make them. The quality of information provided is very high, and a video of this nature is going to be used as a gateway / tutorial for people seeking to develop their game further, and I just feel having the information almost hidden by having a title such as "The Technique That Has Taken Over SSBM" is going to be detrimental down the road. If I'm thinking too much into this, sorry. No ill-will intended. . . Just hoping to provide some constructive criticism for the cause. Keep up the good work.

If M2K wrote the Melee bible back in the day, then I swear we're witnessing you publish the New Testament chapter by chapter

@Officer Barbrady There is no evidence that tech exists, if you find something in the code I'm sure we'd all like to see it too haha
I always play Super Mario 64's File Select in the background of these videos and it's literal perfection.

Fun fact about editing this one: I listened to almost all of the Pokemon Heart Gold and Soul Silver soundtrack while editing.

Yet another example of how the platforms in Melee increase the depth of the game. So incredible.

thank you melee
