I JUST LOVE how all my favorite youtube mechanics collab like this! I’ve been following this series since Car Trek, and the crossover with Questionable Garage, was just CHEF’s KISS.
Dont't forget to give Kevin Smith from KSR Performance & Fabrication that tuned the engine some cred... Such a nice guy and really amazing racecar builder and racer🤘
@@Kent. I saw that also, I can not remember but what was the HP something like 150. I liked how KSR was making fun of how bad (as in low horse power) it was and Ferrari's in general.

HUGE THANKS to Jared and Holley Performance for helping get the 308 running great! Be sure to check out www.youtube.com/@TheQuestionableGarage and holley-team.com/3YcDp60
A point of interest I drove one for my boss about 40 years ago and I can tell you first the engine was not as smooth, also if you drove it through a city you needed new plugs when you got through. My boss sent me to a local race shop to have his one tuned, they had a nightmare with it but on picking it up it was superb but a month later it was back there for a complete refresh plugs points carb work he ended up selling it to get a Porsche that needed nothing for a year at a time.
On your 308 signal arm; look into Fiat and Alfa parts- the stalk looks very like one I remember working on 124s and Spiders. Great to see the car back home and the Missus thrilled to boot- always good for the Wizard!
I did a similar alternator swap on a fiat X19 back in the day. I love those 308`s the styling is just so classic Ferrari. Thanks for the video I`m sure Magnum is smiling somewhere.
Jared along with Kevin at KSR put their heads together on this one. They both are great mechanics and I believe you all represent a higher standard that you don't see too often in the real world. My favorite channels to watch. Lots of knowledge and information a guy can use.
That alternator idea possibly comes from the Porsche 928 world. It was discovered that with a few washers added, the Bosch alternator from an '88 Chevy Camaro V6 will fit perfectly on a Porsche 928, at a far cheaper price and much easier availability. And it really cannot be told from an inspection that it is not an original part....
Would be lying if i said that I *haven't* been on the lookout for a 308 roller with a bad motor... A 4.8 or 5.3 with a small turbo would be pretty amazing in one of these.
@@elesjuanThe Honda V6 from the NSX would fit in the 308 just fine. I am no expert on Honda engines but I assume that you could soup up that V6 to give at least 350/400 bhp. Then you could surprise plenty of folks with your 308 with some muscle.
A restomod on a Ferrari 308, would be great today, but would be near on 'valueless' in 4 to 5 years time. I have witnessed a restomod on a Alfa Romeo Montreal where it had been fitted with a Holden 5 litre V8 (similar to a Chevy V8) - which seemed like a good idea at the time. However it's current intrinsic value is equivalent to the value of the body parts - i.e. nearer to a quarter, or probably less, than the value of an original car. Having said that, if one has the money to burn - then by all means proceed with a Ferrari restomod. If I wanted a fast car in this 'traffic jammed world' that is reliable, fun to drive, relatively inexpensive to run, and could be 'turbo modified' to yield more power - I would choose a Honda S2000.
@@josebrown5961 you're right, that engine would fit in a 308, but idk many people who have an nsx motor laying around in their garage given thats a fairly rare car, and a rather expensive engine. Yeah, you could get an oddysey/accord/tl v6, but if I'm putting in the effort of swapping out a v8 for another engine, why not go for the gold standard of cheap, readily available, reliable power? On the flip side, a gm 4.8 or 5.3 were made by literal boat loads and can be had from pick and pull yards for a cool C-note. Add a couple hundred dollars in components along with a Chinese turbo, on 7psi you've got a near bulletproof 500whp power plant with just as much torque. Not to mention, I already have a complete low mile L33 on a stand in my garage, which was originally going in my Miata, waiting for something in a little better condition worthy of the investment.
Out of all the vehicles on TH-cam I think this is my favorite. All the different things you guys did made it usable. I know it's going to have it's haters, but I think you only improved it.
Well, it’s a beautiful Italian body, with a Bowling Green, KY, (Holley) fuel system. That’s the interesting part of the project, making the original even better. It won’t win at the car shows, but those cars are all original, and they arrive, (usually), on a trailer, (for obvious reasons.)
If you ever do need suspension work a small drop in ride height would do a lot for the car IMHO. Nothing extreme, just make the gap even around the tire to the wheel well. Great looking car. Glad to see it’s getting what it deserves.
How "questionable" is it to mount the ECU on the bottom of the trunk? Maybe a offset bracket below it so it doesn't sit in water if that ever enters the trunk?
When you get the evaporator blower installed. Please do voltage drop tests from the positive battery to the positive blower connection on high. Variation pn the same test. Positive alternator output to the evaporator fan positive. At idle the battery has higher voltage. Engine above 1200 rpm the alternator has more current. Same test on the negative blower on high. You may want to install a relay that on hot days you can bypass the blower resistor and fan switch. When i reduced the voltage drop on that efi 2v countach it cured the cool factor where the doors had to be opened at stop signs not for coolness but to let the hot air out. Since you are out in the hot center of the country. Getting as much cool air is needed.
Mrs. Magnum PI, I love how your dash vents operate. Seriously, the Holley EFI has some advantages. Easy to use software for one, but some disadvantages as well such as poor personal support for technical questions, you generally get very little one on one and have to resort to questions on a forum. But the biggest disadvantage to me is it’s lack of compatibility with modern CAN-BUS systems to allow its use with recent modern car electronics such as Porshe body computers to allow use of their guages, traction control etc…Several of its smaller competitors such as Pro EFI, and the British Emerald EFI to name just two have that compatibility. At least Holley could have a add on patch to allow it. Prices are generally comparable and one on one support is generally better. Ask the little lady to keep it between the ditches.
That’s awesome, the fact that you can bring an old car(beautiful car btw) to modern standards is awesome, might have to do this to my ‘62 Ford Galaxie.
No 308 ran that good from the factory every 308 needs that done to them wow what an improvement fantastic now you can drive it Smart choice on the alternator There's a guy in Canada with a 308 and it's beautiful condition but it does not run well he sold it because of that reason no one could turn it if he saw your channel before he sold it I'm sure he would have done that to it have a great day thanks for the inspiration
Watching Mrs Wizard reaching into the steering wheel to turn reminds me of driving a Duce & 1/2. It was the only way to yank those wheels around. I suspect the Holley EFI will work on just about all automotive internal combustion engines if you know what you are doing. Shout out to Holley, Jared and Kevin Smith!

Change sitting position to closer and it will help to drive it easier.
Nice to see the Ms Wizard up close. That gal can drive. Lol. Motor sounds great. Magnum Ms. Wizard. Looks great. ❤❤ 🏁
My absolute fav is the (Italy-only) 208, 2ltr, Webers, no turbo, coupe, crank windows, no a/c.... my dream car. Easy import: $50K.
That is one thing that no one else can match -- that Ferrari **SOUND!!** It's a symphony!!
Thanks KSR Performance
308 still a beautiful car. Just fantastic.
The Holley/MSD setup is excellent.
