I watched Turning Red as well. I HATED IT!!! Granted there was some aspects that made me chuckle and were somewhat relatable, but the whole message behind the movie was definitely not what was potrayed in the trailer. The relationship with the main character and her mom could have been done way better, and I hate how Hollywood always potrays the dad as the dumb/clueless one.

I hate anything related to Horror Movies. I was basically "forced" by my high-school best friend back in the day to watch Saw 2 with him (we originally wanted to watch Finding Nemo). He basically just bought tickets for Saw 2 and I legit had to leave during that one Scene with the needles. Still sometimes have nightmares about it.

When I watched Turning Red for the first time, it felt amazing because it's theme regarding generational differences, trauma, respect parents but don't forget to respect one's self etc. It felt like it was just a film with a deep message. But when I reviewed some of the clips of the film itself, it sounded like Disney was trying to shove veiled and camouflaged political agenda into someone's throats. Would I recommend it to someone with sound logic and thinking? Yes. Would I recommend this to a child? Definitely not.

i speak as a southeast asian gen z Catholic; the culture surrounding honor and respect is pretty much the same all throughout asia and it becomes very stressful. like, there's a reason why japan locks the doors to their balconies in schools.
and where i live, the philippines, catholicism takes up 88% of the population. the problem is the culture surrounding the religion- it is used as a tool to control and scare people to giving the "authorities" what they want. for ex, in my catholic school, i was told that i was a disorder bc i experienced ssa, and that my schizophrenia was because i "submitted to sin" (i may have ssa, but i dont plan on acting on it)- but you get the point. my love for the church will be forever more than my attraction to the same sex. and also, the spaniards used the church to control us(look up Jose Rizal, our national hero, and the Books he wrote called "Noli Me Tangere")
so upon watching turning red, i found a glimpse of empowerment esp at the line that said that we shouldn't be so stressed about honoring others that we forget to honor ourselves. but then i realized that this was an asian **american** adaptation of asian culture. and respect and honor isn't taught in america in any way at all- just BS political correctness, but no actual respect, no values, no self responsibility. so i tend to have mixed feelings about the movie- it's a cute comfort film, but cannot be used to teach values.

@@beancate obviously your research isn't very good because there isn't 1 american culture, someone growing up in Louisiana will have an almost completely different childhood than someone growing up in California as would someone growing up in Ohio.
2nd it isn't our culture to kick children out at 18, generally people want to leave their parents house and create their own home at some point. 18 is when your parents are not legally responsible for you and usually the age when people leave to go to college. Most people I know were in and out of their parents house during their early 20s and even after they are out of the house parents usually help them while they are trying to get established

I feel like with a lot of these (especially Pet Sematary), you’re judging them in a very surface level way (they’re gory, this happens so it’s bad, etc.) instead of actually acknowledging what they’re about or trying to say. A lot of Stephen King stories are about trauma and need the violence and gore to accurately depict what the character is internally going through. Pet Sematary wouldn’t be effective if it wasn’t violent because it’s about a fear of losing your family, and that’s something that King himself experienced when HIS son almost got run over by a semi. He tried to exorcise that feeling onto the page and that’s what the story is about. With Carrie, the motif of blood needs to be there because it’s about a young girl being freaked out and bullied over the natural changed going on in her body.

I watched very little tv growing up and gave up on it completely about 20 or so years ago. The only tv show you mentioned that I recognized was "Friends." Everybody was talking about "Turning Red" and I thought about seeing it, but Disney doesn't have the reputation it used to have. Funny enough, last Sunday at lunch a bunch of us were talking about Disney movies, especially Hunchback of Notre Dame. Last Sunday was Quasimodo Sunday (the Octave Day of Easter) which was the day the Hunchback was found according to the story. At any rate, we were discussing books that had been on the list of banned books and how they had got there, and some were surprised at how little it took to get a story banned. If the Catholic Church still had such a registry I suspect very few, if any, modern shows & movies would avoid condemnation. The conversation gave much food for thought.

"Stigmata" I actually had to look up what the movie was called because it had been so long since I last saw it. The movie stars Gabriel Byrne (great actor btw) who is a Vatican scientist-priest who investigates miracles for the causes of the saints and is investigating a woman (a professed atheist mind you) who is getting experiencing a case of stigmata and writing out passages in Aramaic while being kind of possessed by this ex-communicated priest and a slew of corrupt suppressive Vatican officials plotting plots everywhere running throughout. Essentially the movie is sort of a promotion of the Gnostic Gospel of Thomas which the films makers are trying to convince people is an authentic Gospel of Christ and using a miraculous event that tends to happen to particularly devout saints as a driving tool for promoting something that is heretical.

I'm surprised that you even knew about Carrie. The original movie was done in 1977 and it is a really cheesy B rated horror movie.
They later tried to make it into a musical back in the 1980s that was a huge flop commercially. However, after a revamp in 2012 the musical version actually tells a pretty interesting story.
My youngest daughter (who is a very devout Catholic) had the privilege of playing the character of Margaret White. It was a real challenge for her.
Unlike the movie, Margaret White has a good side to her and is the leading character outside of Carrie. The songs "Evening Prayers" and "How Those Boys Could Dance" give real insight into the demons Margaret fought in her mind.

Growing up and hormones are natural and things that young girls are learning to work around. I do agree with you though on the "My panda, my choice" comment. Hi, I hate if this comment is irrelevant, but there is a brilliant film called 'Antichrist' directed by someone called Lars von Trier, starring Willem Dafoe, that I recommend you watch. It sounds satanic judging by the title, but what it really is about is a couple who, grieving after a loss of their child, go to the woods to cleanse themselves, but in the process, the anti christ tries to tempt them. Not to spoil things, but they discover Jesus and use the power of the lord to stand tall against temptation, and in the process, beat satan and live happily. I do not suggest googling it as they missell it terribly to appeal to libs, and they actually lie about the film to stop people from watching it as libs are so scared of us rejoicing in our faith, the poster even has nudity on it, despite the film being free from any sex whatsoever, but I really recommend giving it a go, no film has solidified my faith quite like that one

I really liked crazy exgirlfriend, but I wanted to stop watching after whatshername had the abortion. I got so angry when that episode came. I did end up watching the whole series, but I probably shouldn't have.
I also think friends and how I met your mother aren't good to watch looking back. Bc of the way they portray sex.

It's sad that the only movie out there that portrays Christians in a positive light or as regular people is A Walk to Remember. In other movies, christians are potrayed as either a bunch of purity sues (like every christian propraganda film) or worse as psycho maniacs (Carrie). Carrie was one those things that could have been better. I applaud Sue for trying to be kind to Carrie by telling her boyfriend, Tommy to take Carrie to prom. But her act of kindness got ruined thanks to Chris, Billy, and the gym teacher. I wasn't sure whether to hate Carre or root for her. On one hand, I feel sorry for her being bullied and watching her burn the whole gym down on her bullies was cathartic. On the other hand, I knew she would have ended up in jail, had she never died. It was also horrifying to watch her kill her mother. Why couldn't she just run out of the house? I knew that Carrie's mom was a psycho but recently, I too worry that she makes Christians look bad. I hope that people who watch Carrie know that real-life Christians are NOT like Carrie's mom. Carrie's mom misreads the Bible that I know the Bible doesn't say (e.g. sex is meant to be a union between husband and wife-not sinful at all).
I thought I was the only one who was bothered by James Bond for the same reasons you were bothered by it. What's with all the half-naked women?
Finally, someone who agrees with me about Turning Red! I watched it thinking it was going to be great (other than Cars, you can't go wrong with Pixar). I thought it was going to be a heartwarming story about a mother and daughter.
    Boy was I wrong.
First of all, I couldn't help but find the plot too simple and dumb. It would have been appropriate for a theatrical short, rather than a movie. I find the idea of a red panda being a metaphor for puberty or period ridiculous. Shouldn't the mother help her daughter get through it or tame it? If it was supposed to represent puberty then why the women in Mei Mei's family wanted to get rid of it? People talked about the movie also showing generational trauma. What generational trauma? I didn't see any of that in the movie. Even if I did, it felt underdeveloped. I felt that the creators were trying to copy Encanto and Coco, two movies that I thought did a much better job at showing generational trauma than Turning Red.
Second of all, the main character, Mei Mei was a jerk. She came off as an a rude and disrespectful brat. First of all, I found her religion uncomfortable to watch. The scene in which her grandma and aunts tried to get rid of her red panda during a ritual was so creepy that my mom had to fast forward it! With Mulan, it was different because the buddihism was extremely very subtle. Coco was also very subtle with thier Day of the Dead holiday so I didn't have to worry. But Turning Red was definitely uncomfortable and frightening! The last straw was when she said, "I love gyrating!" and twerked in front of her mother! What the!?!? The twerking scene was so embarrassing and bad to watch that one of my relatives said, "Ugh, I hope she (Mei Mei) dies!" You know a movie is bad, when you found yourself wishing death on the heroine instead of rooting for her. I too, hated how her last lines to her mom were "My Panda, my Choice!" Couldn't she say something a little more assuring? Something like, "Mom, it's okay, I got this," or "Don't worry, Mom. Everything's under control. If I get crazy, the girls will snap me out of it."
Third of all, the movie promoted rebellion and disobedience by protraying it as a good thing. Bible compares rebellion and disobedience to idolatry and witchcraft! MEi Mei never learned to respect her mother or have sympathy for her. Why did Turning Red portrayed respecting your parents as a bad thing when the Bible says that whoever respects their mother and father will live a long life? Mei Mei's mother wasn't unreasonable or controlling. She wasn't forcing her daughter in an arranged marriage or in a career that she didn't like to do. Nor was she neglecting her in favor for another kid. All she asked of her daughter was to get good grades and not goof off. Yes, her mother doesn't allow her to hang out with the girls but that's because they're bad influence. The movie never explained properly why the mother doesn't like Mei Mei hanging out with other girls. Is she not allowed to have friends or are Miriam, Abby, and the indian girl bad influence? Not to mention that Mei Mei never once asked her mother why can't she hang out with her friends. Naysayers had said, "But other Disney movies showed kids rebelling against their parents, and nobody complained!" Yes, but at least in the previous Disney and Pixar movies, the kids and their parents both reconciled and made compromises or set boundaries. They had left me feeling happy that they worked out their differences. The Jungle Book ended with Mowgli deciding to go back to the man village on his own accord (without being forced by Bagheera or Baloo this time). The Little Mermaid ended with Ariel marrying Eric and telling her father, "I love you, Daddy," while hugging him. Peter Pan ended with Wendy and Mr. Darling realizing that one must grow up but it's okay to cherish your childhood memories. The conclusion of Coco showed Miguel (plus Papa Hector and Miguel's new baby sister) playing or enjoying music. Encanto ended with the Madrigal family (plus Mirabel and Bruno) getting a family photo. How did Turning Red end? By having Mei Mei deciding to go out with her friends instead of helping her mom finish raising money for the broken stadium (even with permission) and telling off her mom, "My Panda, My Choice!" when questioned about sprouting her panda ears and tail. That ending left me grumbling for two weeks.
Another problem I have with Turning Red was the scene in which Mei Mei drew pictures of some teenage guy clerk from the store she had a crush on. When her mother saw them and freaked out because of how weird and creepy they looked, she went to the store and accused the guy for being a pervert or a pedophile. Why didn't Mei Mei stop her in the first place by saying, "Mom, calm down. No, he didn't do those things to me. I made them up!" And why didn't the store clerk say, "Lady, what are you talking about? I don't know this girl! I have never seen her or spoke to her before!"

I am a Catholic my whole life. I’m 40 years old. I don’t see anything wrong with watching any movies. As I will say I am a medium and have seen all the conjuring movies to help me understand my gift. Ed and Lorraine Warren were Catholic. Ed was a demonologist and Lorraine a medium they worked with the Catholic Church until God called them home. I think the news are scarier and ugly than make believe movies. To see gory or horror movies is entertaining. Bible study and movies should be balanced out. Spend equal times doing your likes as in church. With Jesus in your heart ❤️ you guys be alright. I just saw this channel. And omg didn’t know there was someone as passionate for our Catholic Church. Love that I’m not alone. Finally I feel I have a sister in Christ who understands Catholic faith. Blessings Doll 🙏❤️🤗

I've been repeatedly watching the Cate Blanchett Elizabeth films and because it's based on the Elizabethans; the films are Anti-Catholic. If you watched an Anti-Catholic film that was set in the Reformation would you dismiss it due to the conflicts of that era or just avoid it considering how you have the Ridolfi and Babington plots and a scene in which a Jesuit kills a man for lying? Edit: Anyway, love the Rosaries in the background but what's with the symbol of the Rosary on the second right between the black and crystal-blue beads?

  • @emilyfinnegan8449

Fuller House is entertaining and mostly appropriate but I would not recommend it for kids, only for teenagers and adults with strong moral convictions. There is some innuendos and adult humor. The biggest thing though is that in the later seasons surrogacy is a plot point. Stephanie is not able to get pregnant so she goes through with IVF and decides to use Kimmy as a surrogate in order to have a child. And she isn't even married to the father of this child. So obviously that is all a big red flag. There is some other interesting dynamics like Fernando and Kimmy being married and then divorced and then engaged?? Which is strange...so...I think it's okay to watch but I do have lots of complaints I guess.

Friends is my all time favorite show so I’d have to disagree with you there.
Sex and the city used to be one of my favorite shows, I thought it was funny and clever and pretty relatable when it comes to dating. But sex and the city remake “and just like that” was soooo disturbing. My friends like it bc it’s so relatable in todays time with the work stuff and gender confusion etc. I just didn’t like it. I finished it just bc I thought it would get better. Even if it’s “todays time” it just made me sick. I’ve decided to stop watching both satc series. Waste of time.

James Bond films are always the same thing. They are so brainless and stereotyped. They are also unbelievably sexist by the way they treat women. I have seen some of the older and the new films and I can`t think about one that is actually good. Even on a quality level they are just average. There is a lunatic villain with some ridiculous name who wants to rule the world or to do a massive robbery, some very hot girls who are there for the hero`s enjoyement, usually twice by film, some silly story, lots of scenes where he is in danger but always escapes, lots of killing of the bad guys and some narcissist ending, with the "spy" having a great time, usually involving a woman. The new films have better actors, they even went for better directors, and try to be more realistical but are basically still the same old stuff.

Books are for the most part better then the movies, you only have hour 1/2 to tell a story / James bond ,really ? Maybe the shorter list for you would be , to do what you like ? then you you could do 1 video for about 2 mins , instead of doing 4 video vlog for an hour.

Modern remakes are always far worse in the morality department, so I wouldn’t count on the newer James Bond films being better in that regard. From what little I’ve seen in advertising on those films, they do still have sexual material, so they should be avoided, too.
