      Wondering about reliability and cost of maintenance. Alpha Romeo was chased out of the US long ago because they were POSs. This car is a thousand times more complex and Italian cars don't have a good reputation for reliability. I would wait for a year and read the long term reviews.

    • @mattspeer01
      @mattspeer01 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dzerres The Giulia is already near the end of its third model year in the US came (2017 was first model year and the 2019s are on sale currently). I would expect a mid-cycle refresh soon for the 2020 MY. The long term reviews have not been kind, in terms of reliabilty, even if they gush about the performance. Car and Driver just published their final 40,000 mile test update on a 2018 Quadrifoglio and said it was one of the most amazing cars they have ever had in their long term fleet, but it broke their heart because it spent a ridiculous amount of time in the shop being fixed.

    SINGLE CLUTCH?! TIFF HELP HIM OUT!!
    Standard 8 speed ZF in the Alfa.

    • @lovecarsTV
      @lovecarsTV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Joseph C. It is a converter lock up clutch.The Converter Lock-up clutch eliminates the converter slippage, thereby reducing fuel consumption.
      Thanks to the considerable torque that the converter can transmit, it is possible to make use of the lock-up clutch in place of a gear shift, giving greater comfort with respect to shifting between two gears.
      Depending on the load, in some of the engine’s operating points, the lock-up clutch is opened instead of shifting down, increasing the engine speed as happens during a down shift. The difference in rotational speed between the pump and the turbine increases the converter torque, which corresponds to a gear shift. Moreover, the increase in engine speed means that the engine is made to operate in a higher power range.

But sometimes you also want a car that can comfortably drive and that glues to the road just like the model 3 and the fact that it has responsive steering it can also be fun. Interior wise i'm with Tiff on this the Tesla doesn't have much to do and i would prefer the speedometer to be infront of the driver. Its a bit too simple. You know what i think if i could afford it. I see hundreds of Teslas each day. With the low hood and high roof on the Model 3 it looks a little bit silly. In my country they cost the same as a Golf GTI so they are beating every sales record. But three guys in my neighbourhood has the Alfa Q. It’s cool, unorthodox, noisy, and exotic. I love their petrolhead desicion of getting these beasts compared to the tame sowing machines.

    In Track Mode, the Model 3 can go sideways around those corners, too. You have to really push it to break the back loose. Since it's faster to not go sideways, the computer will try to keep you from doing that if you're just close to the limit, but it will do it if you tell it you really want to-you just need to put your right foot down more than with the Alfa, because the Tesla has so much more grip.
    Who says an AWD car can't drift-or do donuts? 😈

    • @eubikedude
      @eubikedude 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @m scott True. I imagine there is a new learning curve needed for folks to drive in track mode with a Tesla, it may end up doing the "fun stuff" but you need to drive it differently to get it to do it.
      On top of that, with the full software control, I imagine track mode will evolve over time and have additional options, I can see modes such as "ludicrous drift", "over-steer" and "best lap" appearing.
      Do the BMW and AMG have OTA updates available? Additionally, do they have (semi)autonomous driving which would be even nice to have when driving them in slow traffic which, let's face it, is a lot of the time if the car is your daily driver/commuter and not just a weekend/track thing.
      I think this is another area where the Tesla wins by a large margin, it's a very practical family car as well as being quick/fun.

      The EVs will also get better battery tech as time goes by and the batteries can be reused for e.g. home batteries/power grid where even 20% of the original capacity would be fine while the EV can get a new battery pack popped in with the best tech of the time.

    Put the PS4S tyres on the Alfa, it’s a revelation.
    Either way the Alfa gets such admiring interest, it feels so exotic and special to drive whilst also being so entertaining.

    In Australia the on road price for Quadrifoglio seems to be about $50K more than the Model 3 P. I have ordered the latter. Much as I love Alfas (I have owned one and a Nissan R35 GTR) I believe we are at the beginning of a real transition. I already have a Hyundai Ioniq EV and charge it off our rooftop solar array. In nearly 10,000 km over 3 months I have put air in the tyres, water in the windscreen washers and that's it. I hardly use the brakes because of regen. Other than a slight reduction in my positive credit with my electricity company the direct running cost has been $0.00. With this experience I am confident about how well the Model 3P will work with its extra range. With so many interesting EVs (cars and SUVs and vans) coming onto the market and with lithium battery prices falling it will be game over for the combusion engine in the next decade except for some specialised applications. Yes I miss the sound. But I'll get over it.

      Nonsense. Only in a short drag race or a single lap. ICE cars can do mile after mile, lap after lap, at very high speed, and refuel in minutes.

      @@craigyirush3492 I agree with you, in a long race. Then, and only then, is what I said wrong. But according to this test, which is what we are talking about, and in every drag race, my statement is correct.
      If they continue the race, then there will be a point in which the gas powered vehicle will eventually overtake the electric, but in every driving situation that someone could experience while driving in the city, I am dead on accurate.

      Lovecars - I love cool features but to me, that is completely unnecessary and childish, but say an air vent that can disappear into the dashboard completely like how it did in one of the Jaguars, is complicated but still useful because it is the air conditioning.
