It's time for another carwow drag race! This week, the all-electric Tesla Model 3 Performance is going against a born-and-bred supercar - the Porsche 911 Carrera S! Victory seems almost certain for the 911, which goes from 0-60mph in just 3.5 seconds and is powered by a mighty, 450hp, 3.0-litre 6-cylinder engine! Don't forget that the Tesla Model S is only 1 second behind the world record on Laguna Seca with a 4 doors sedan and the VW I.D. R has the world record on Pikes Peak.

I've noticed only a couple videos where they ever mentioned that the driver's reaction could play a part in the stopping distance. It seems to me even a slightest delay could create quite a difference in the result.

@@johannpena9602 Seems like a bargain to me for the quickest production car made today. That will go 0-60 in 2.1 seconds and the 1/4 mile 9.2@154 and drama free.
Plus can carry 5 people in comfort, range about 400miles and cost $12-24 in electric cost a month. Set an impressive ring times of 7:35 so it clearly doesn't handle too bad either.

If Matt had preheated the battery and had a full charge then the Model 3 Performance does less than 11.5 for the 1/4 mile.

@@nicosteffen364 What they do is have a lot more fun driving around the circuit than the Tesla driver in her over-weight battery-laden car. Also, at the end of the day they just fill up and go home. They don't have to wait for ages for their car to charge.

@@haywoodjablome234 I accept that a 30 minute wait would be fine in the middle of a journey when you need to have a break anyway but a track day is a perfect example of when you wouldn't. You would have been hammering so would have used most of your charge but probably wouldn't need a rest. Waiting even 30 minutes would be a pain in the arse. I can "charge" my M5 repeatedly in less than 5 minutes.

I own a Model 3 Performance, the reason it brakes poorly is the brake regen, the pads never get hot and it hurts the stopping power.
You should do a best 2 of 3 for all your drag races. I cant help but feel in doubt for a lot of the drag times we see on this channel.

30 mph actually puts the Porsche at a low rpm in 2nd gear (turbo lag rpm). For it to be in its powerband you would need to start the race at a higher speed like 40-45 mph.

I believe it's a working runway. I may incorrect but I've seen carwow or 888mf having to clear the runway for a light plane.
I could also see that spiking their insurance rates up by a bit. So much more that could go wrong on a handling course than drag racing and brake testing.

Mr. Antonio Calvo of Calvo Motor Sports with his souped high performance Dodge Viper TA made 9.8 seconds in a quarter-mile drag race. He uses after market Nth Moto components upgrade package and combines it with a DSC tuned high tech performance suspension systems package. The DSC setting has a smart brain of which it maps out the condition of the swerving-tilting-braking of the Viper. Sort of like souped up hydraulics on steroids with a brain.
But they has not the exact same reaction by the breakpoint.

I'm a lucky owner of an 997 gts and a model 3 Performance and the brakes of the latter are definitely not at the level of a 911

Wait until you brake longer and /or at higher speeds. Tesla's will fade and Porsches will not or way later. It's the heat that determines the performance of the brake system.

Just because Tesla manages to get impressive result, doesnt mean Porsche should to better lmao. You cant ignore the physics. These are heavy vehicles stopping on high speeds.
Steven Vo probably bad reactions from the Porsche driver or very good reaction from Matt, anyways repeat the test once or twice and the Porsche is going to stop in an even shorter distance since its brakes can easily handle heat and might improve to a certain extend while the Tesla’s brakes will over heat and decrease their braking power drastically.

that's very small difference to judge. Could be due to the delay in when both drivers started slamming the brakes!
You base this on the noses of the car but the overhang of the porsche is just longer, look at the wheels, it's a draw.

Normal tyres in normal daily driving conditions wouldnt warm them up. Youd have to go a bit nuts before the drag race!

Do it on a road course, it’s easy to build a 10 sec 1/4 mile at a fraction of the Tesla’s price. Porsche is a sports car for the open road, not a drag strip. Tesla would get destroyed on a road course.
