    We've had this washer for about a year, maybe less. It goes off balance EASILY, as a few others noted. I have to babysit to keep it from jumping out of the laundry closet. I like everything else about it but that's a pain.

    If you don't want the toxic softener smell coming out of your dryer while drying your clothes you can use vinegar. it will mix with your detergent, just make sure you have a little water in the tub and put your detergent in and let it mix before you put your clothes in. FYI.

    So I just purchased this at a used appliance store. Paid 200$ for it. I don’t have a lot of delicate laundry and I do my comforters 2x a year since I don’t really use them to sleep. Anywho, I purchased it because I wanted a traditional agitator machine since I can’t have a front loader and this seems to wash well. Do you think for 200$ this isn’t worth it? Thanks in advance

      @@PoorPerson & no problem with the High Efficiency aspect of it? I have a Kenmore Series 700. It's HE. It's got all the features, great specifications & is a total POS that couldn't clean clothes if it took them down to the laundromat for a wash.

    • @PoorPerson
      @PoorPerson  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheBsavage it actually uses the same amount of water as the old 80s and 90s washers. However, it has a bigger tub, which gives the allusion it uses less water because it does not fill up to the top, like the older models did. If you load it with a standard 80s and 90s large load, the clothes will float in and on top of the water just the same. I recommend loading no higher than 3/4 full, which is still a very large load considering the diminished size of older units, and the water will again cover the load with water. If you use precise fill, it will be a water miser.

      I have this model for a year and pretty much everything he says is correct. I have to add that I did see problems with the water temperatures. I was not getting the water temperature I had selected. And one big disagreement I have is that it really doesn't clean with agitation only in 1 direction. Simple polo necks and jeans did not cone out clean. Additionally, the clothes do not smell like they have been washed regardless of soap used.

    This washer only lasted 4 years for me it worked great until the agitator stopped working. We attempted to take the agitator out but the bolt snapped off. Sooo rather than trying to fix it and having the agitator break again we are getting a new one. Not buying a GE again.

    • @brianandrew8930
      @brianandrew8930 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have this same problem. The agitator is so aggressive that it ends up balling all of the clothes up on one side and then the unit tries to rip itself apart in the spin cycle.

  • @Commander_HW
    @Commander_HW 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    This machine doesn't fill up enough water. So I have to let it fill up then drain the whole thing(so the items will get saturated and be heavy) then fill it up again so the machine will detect a heavier load(because the items are fully wet, so it's heavy) and use more water (all the way to the top). So really I am using A LOT MORE water than if it just fill it up to the top at the first place. When I don't use this method the tub will only will up half way, and the items on the top doesn't even get washed, and trust me, I removed the lid and watched it wash the whole thing!

      Don't you think it is ridiculous to have to add a bucket of water? What is this Little House on the Prairie? What a piece of crap. The delicate cycle is no different from putting them in a sink. It should come with a wooden wash board. I miss my old washer.

    • @jaylineff
      @jaylineff 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you're using the Precise Fill feature. The weight of the clothes relative to the amount of water is only a factor when using this cycle. I've hated this machine since we bought it a year ago but have subsequently figured out ways to deal with its idiosyncracies.
      First off, I NEVER use Precise Fill. I use Max and hit the Deep Fill button. (On the machine in the video it says Deep "Rinse". That's weird.) Then the machine fills to its max, which may or may not be enough water for me depending on what I'm washing. I add detergent, etc. while it's filling. Once the water stops coming in, I add my laundry. If I don't think enough water is covering it, I add a gallon or two extra from water jugs I ALWAYS keep in the laundry room. ("Little House on the Prairie" indeed.)
      Bottom line: Never use Precise Fill.

    • @Commander_HW
      @Commander_HW 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jaylineff i don't have a MAX fill, just Large and Super, and none of it gets me enough water. But i do have a Deep Rinse button. So using Precise Fill will be the only feature that can get me more water than Super.

    All the comments on newer washing machines are good for parts sales on older machines. Wife wants shiny new. I want something that works. Not that hard to work on a washing machine.
    And parts are less than half the price of new machines that don't sound like are half as good.
    Parts Select has fairly good repair videos. Other parts suppliers have better prices. Timer on washer and dryer have issues and they are $100 cheaper than Parts Select elsewhere. That got the repair price down enough to make since to me. I can probably fix our washer and dryer for $400 in parts and have better machines. Over 20 year old technology seems better than what is offered today. Sad.
    I might even toss the wife a can of spray paint. Lol

    Just got one tonight, so far Not impressed. Hate the hood/door lock. Combined a computer with hot steaming water what could go wrong. Had to read the manual to figure out how to start the damn thing. $470 ? I got this one for $400 had a dent on the side. Just ran the first load, setting were on med. load, ran on med. wash, it took 55 min. Clothes are clean, perhaps cleaner than my old washing machine. But then it was 20 plus years old and Never had a problem with it. I would be surprised IF this thing lasts
    5 yrs. I miss my old washing machine. IMPORTANT what ever you buy write down the model number and ser. numbers. Other wish you are going to be SOL. It is a marking scam, most everything today has a paper sticker with the model and ser. numbers on them. And over time they fade or get washed away. And when you need parts that will be the first thing they ask for. And IF you do not know you can not get parts. I went to several used appliance shops even they could not or would not sell me parts.

    After four months of using this machine for a family of two, the washer stopped spinning. Found out that no one in western New York will service it. I replaced the locking lid mechanism and the inverter to the tune of 300 dollars myself on top of the purchase price to end yp with a glorified paperweight. GE is absolutely no help. If you are looking for a cheap machine, do not get this. You're better off buying a refurbished unit.
