That was an excellent format. Hope there are more of these in the future. Also, that’s wild David Weiss is making some music for the game. That’s insane. The game has a really consistent artistic style to it. Looks really really good for such a small mostly-one-man team
I backed this game on Kickstarter when it dropped and I'm so happy you interviewed Eric about the game! David Wise being involved is such a cool addition and mobility-wise, this is the kind of metroidvania that I get most excited about. Eric's passion for this is infectious and I'm even more excited to check out the full game after this video. Great job!
I honestly had no idea this game existed until you posted in the discord about working on this video and about halfway through this interview I was already sold on it and funded it to get a copy. I did the $35 one to get a bunch of extra stuff. Eric clearly understands and loves the Metroidvania formula and I can't wait to play Lucid!
The funny thing is that the next game from the developers of Celeste seems to be a metroidvania as well. I doubt it'll have movement so similar to their previous game, though. I think it's a good idea to bring Celeste's movement into a metroid game, and I recall seeing a couple of other metroid-likes that play like a hardcore platformer. I feel like some of the later bits in Hollow Knight and maybe some of the challenging climaxes of Ori showed people that a game with a metroid structure could play that way, although thinking back there were certainly serious platforming challenges in older games like Within a Deep Forest, too.
it looks very interesting, but Lone Fungus is the first celestevania :D have you tried the A Sister's Journey demo? that's another similar game I'm REALLY looking forward to
Check out LUCID here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/matteblackstudio/lucid-2

Eric aka matt
In the full interview, he told a story about how naming his studio Matte Black makes everyone automatically think his name is Matt lol
