That's how I view Skunks, too. Skunks will stamp their front feet and charge forward a foot or so, then slowly scoot backwards. I think it's adorable af, even though I know it's supposed to be an intimidation tactic and a warning lol

Generally, a fear response is actually to freeze or run as a prey species. But if they sense danger, they may thump to alert the rest of their family. Other reasons rabbits thump include annoyance, play, and even just as a call for attention. It's like how when a human says "omg you're so annoying". Depending on tone that could be playful, flirting, or annoyance. Most animals have multiple "tones" in body language. This bunny is just annoyed.

My sister owned a rabbit that would release completely human sounding grunts when he was pissed. Mind you he was rescued from a meat farm and was so inbred instead of front paws he had two stumps with a single claw on each that he would legit pounce at you with. I fucking hated that rabbit

My dog growls at us when we stop petting her (she's a very talkative dog so there's a big difference between her 'talking' to us and actually growling from aggression.) EDIT - JUNE 15th 2023: Hey everyone; it seems this was picked up by the algorithm again - I've been putting off editing this comment but I think it's time now :( We had to make the difficult decision to put Jafar to sleep on the 22nd of October 2022 :( he was 10 years and 7 months old, and he was very healthy until about a month before he passed. 10.5 is very very old for a bunny, and he had virtually no health issues throughout his life - he was very very loved and we like to think we gave him a good and happy life. We miss him immensely but we're so happy that he was with us for so long and that he was in good health until almost the end (and even during his last month he was happy and we don't think he was in pain - his back legs just got too weak and he couldn't move around. We wanted to make sure he wasn't suffering so we had to make the difficult decision to say goodbye). I have some videos from his last day that I'll upload soon; I've been meaning to but it was just too difficult :( RIP Jafar March 2012 - 22 October 2022 Thanks for being our fave little man ------ 1) I know that bunnies thump when they're scared but I genuinely think he was just pissed off - he's a very sassy bunny and always tells me when he doesn't like something. The mini lop is actually bigger than the Holland lop though so it can get confusing!). He is a light brown/caramel colour. He is a very good boy and is very very loved ^_^

Swung forward means intent interest/aggressive ear-horns, excited/happy is held out to the sides, down is moderately relaxed (same as regular up-ears). Ears folded over the back of the shoulders is the same in both kinds of rabbit and is either bothered or relaxed but in a loaf position.
@@H240909 they still have muscles at the base of their ears, so they can angle them a bit, it's less noticeable than stand up ears but it's definitely visible :)

You have no idea. Our bunnies are a bit chunkier and floofier then the bunny in the video and so when they lay down, you can't see their back legs any they turn into floofy loafs. I've actually resorted to calling them floof loafs :)

My rabbit does this to great me in the mornings when i go into her shed to feed her and let her out in the garden for the day. I am half way up the garden and she knows i am coming so she thumps. Then i open the door to the shed and she thumps again. I open her cage and she runs out around my feet before thumping a final time and running into the garden. I swear she things she is a dog... once when i had some takeaway chips in the garden and i dropped 1, she ran over like a bolt of lightning and grabbed it and run off. By the time i got to her she had eaten the damn chip lol

I don’t mind the thump. But if my rabbit bites me, she will be sent to a Chinese hotpot restaurant. At first I feel angry and dislike rabbits. But I think they are better pets than dogs, for people who live in small apartments. At least it reduces the number of dog attacks and euthanasia. Dogs are for big houses with back yards or they get anxious and aggressive. My favourite are cats. They are the best pet, and the only problem is their pee and poop is smelly and expensive to clean by buying cat litter. It is also because they are too good that a lot of people get heartbroken and overly attached when they die from the standard liver or kidney disease. Cats could rule the world, but their organs got nerf and their life is shorten. There are a good many animals I don’t like as pets, after I fell in love with cats. But I think any normal pet, is better than people on TH-cam who keep ants or insects as pets. I think I got less angry after I saw the advantage smaller animals like rabbits have, over dogs. Because most people these days just live in small apartments. But dogs are way too popular. So sadly a lot end up thrown away in Animal Shelter, because they do not understand how to take care of dogs.

My rabbit does this to great me in the mornings when i go into her shed to feed her and let her out in the garden for the day. I am half way up the garden and she knows i am coming so she thumps. Then i open the door to the shed and she thumps again. I open her cage and she runs out around my feet before thumping a final time and running into the garden. I swear she things she is a dog... once when i had some takeaway chips in the garden and i dropped 1, she ran over like a bolt of lightning and grabbed it and run off. By the time i got to her she had eaten the damn chip lol
It's kind of funny that they normally can hop silently like at the end (0:32), but that they intentionally signal emotions with a loud thump noise.

Benny sometimes does this in the middle of the night. No idea what triggers him to do it. But when I cuddle him for a while he stops.

Mr rabbit has always stomped his foot at people. I thought it was just like some nervous twitch it had, but it turns out they are trying to show aggression 😂 although they are still very cute even when they are mad.
This is actually rabbit instinct, signaling “danger” to other rabbits who may be nearby. Maybe the vacuum cleaner set it off, haha

I don’t mind the thump.
But if my rabbit bites me, she will be sent to a Chinese hotpot restaurant.
At first I feel angry and dislike rabbits. But I think they are better pets than dogs, for people who live in small apartments. At least it reduces the number of dog attacks and euthanasia.
Dogs are for big houses with back yards or they get anxious and aggressive.
My favourite are cats. They are the best pet, and the only problem is their pee and poop is smelly and expensive to clean by buying cat litter. It is also because they are too good that a lot of people get heartbroken and overly attached when they die from the standard liver or kidney disease.
Cats could rule the world, but their organs got nerf and their life is shorten.
There are a good many animals I don’t like as pets, after I fell in love with cats. But I think any normal pet, is better than people on TH-cam who keep ants or insects as pets.
I think I got less angry after I saw the advantage smaller animals like rabbits have, over dogs. Because most people these days just live in small apartments. But dogs are way too popular. So sadly a lot end up thrown away in Animal Shelter, because they do not understand how to take care of dogs.

I have two rabbits, I've only ever heard one of them thump twice. It was when we let the other one out first (separated due to fighting). Other than that, she doesnt thump, just glares 😂😂
