  • Watch a pair of Cheetah's with #Sparky the #Robodog at #sydneyzoo testing animal enrichment possibilities using #robotics in a #Zoo. A world 1st from #Sydney Australia for #RoboEvents and it's new research program and the #unitree #robodog. Very special thanks to the Curators and keepers to help guide the test. Sorry about the bad video quality, we will get a professional next time

    I believe the Cheetahs behaved like that because the robot gave no sign of fear whatsoever. Those animals are fine tuned into smelling and seeing reactions in their prey. They could even be able to smell hormonal changes. So if they see no fear response then that signals that the robot is stronger or more dangerous than them, which in turn makes them fear it. That's quite fascinating to observe. Makes me think the whole predator/prey interaction is such a dance. I also loved how at the beginning the 2 cheetahs passed walking as like they were dancing, they were sinched. Metal robot met flesh robots. Very cool!

    This is fascinating. One takeaway is that the Cheetahs were not sure how to react to it because they have never encountered a "creature" like it. Cats have strong hunting instincts and those traits are genetic. Even a cat never taught to hunt a mouse can do it. However, nothing like the robot has been passed along in their genetic dispositions and it's a true "data out of range" moment.

      I myself get uncanny valley vibes from the robot also. I think a lot of animals (humans included) are hardwired to be cautious of something that "isn't quite right" or just seems off. Even with my knowledge that this is a robot, that there is nothing wrong with it and there is nothing to be afraid of, there's still something inside of me that really doesn't like how unnatural the robot's movements are.
      Additionally, the robot doesn't act like prey, which is also throwing the Cheetah off. Just uncanny and strange all around.

      Have faith in JESUS CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOR for HE SAVES ❗️
      *What is the Gospel?*
      The true gospel is the good news that God saves sinners. Man is by nature sinful and separated from God with no hope of remedying that situation. But God, by His power, provided the means of man’s redemption in the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior, Jesus Christ.
      Ephesians 2:8-9
      For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of GOD, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
      Romans 10:9
      9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
      JESUS CHRIST can come anytime!
      Just Believe ❤️ Love you and GOD BLESS

    Part of the problem is the robodog does, accidently project an attitude. That constant limb movement in another animal would signal high alertness, even intent to attack. And there is no signal of wariness, which the cheetahs interpret as high confidence on the part of the robot. I would think this is terribly stressful for them. It's mobile, hence it is 'living'. But it is not fearful or attempting to avoid aggression. That's terrifying.
    I would think the lions would surround and observe it, before just leaving it alone and moving away. If it followed the lion, being confident in the mass/ratio difference between them, might make a single strong slash with its claws before retreating.

    I think what the Cheetahs are taking note of is that there is absolutely no fright response in the robot. The kids screaming certainly didn’t help the stressful situation. Having cheetahs defend their territory from something unfamiliar is fine and scratches that instinctual itch. However having the the children yell and observe at that time was halfwitted.

    • @kmcd6140
      @kmcd6140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Actually, I'm sure they're used to the kids. NOT having them making noise would have been a change in their environment, thus invalidating the test. Remember, these are not wild savannah cats. They're in a zoo.

      @@kmcd6140 Theyre not domesticated, theyre captured. They dont have a choice weather a bunch of kids scream at them or not. If this was truly for "science" they would have told the children to quite down. This was just for shits and gigs. Not really a test.

    • @kmcd6140
      @kmcd6140 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@fight4ourright306 Nope, not domesticated. Never said they were. They live in a zoo. Probably born and raised. This is home. To remove the kids is a change to their environment. Whether you believe in the good work that zoos do is irrelevant. This is what they know. The handlers were there to ensure the cats didn't harm the device or themselves, and the pilot did their best to test reaction ranges. You can hear them talking about using the device to get an aggressive animal to back off w/o harm. The cats can't understand the kids. They hear yelling and honking, and whatever else all day, every day. If the kids weren't cheering for the cheetah to attack, it wouldn't be a normal day for them.
      Now, did the pilot show off for the camera? Maybe. That "sit up and beg" move at the end was pretty cute. The big tom seems to chill a bit at that point, too.
