Jonah wants to make his jobs a little bit easier, so he can work faster! He's a very smart boy and I know some people are rooting him on big time! Josiah is such a hard worker, too. Both of them really stepped up when Justin was down. I know he is so very proud of them. I know Justin was trying to tell Henry "no toys" by offering one tool but it was hilarious when he said he wanted a lawnmower. Gotcha, Justin.
I learned from a Chef on the food network, to preheat the skillet when you see a few wisps of smoke then add your "oil" lard, shortening or whatever you want. Once the "oil" get hot then add food, it won't stick! I use 4 different iron skillets and griddles and don't have any sticking issues.
@@dgmills5351if properly seasoned cast iron should not need any added fat at all, they should work the same way as a nonstick pan. The problem is that people wash their cast iron with regular dish soap and don’t season them often enough. And the food needs to be cooked at a lower temperature than in other pans and pots .
Clean it with water. Try not to let stuff dry on. I put it on the stove with clean tap water, bring it to a simmer, then use a wood or plastic scraper to loosen all the food particles. I dump the dirty water out, wipe it with paper towels. Repeat if not clean. Then I add a small amount of avocado or olive oil, rub it generously all over the inside of the pan and turn the burner back on to cook the oil onto the pan. Let cool, wipe off any excess oil and store.
Justin, the 6 years I've lived on the farm here in TN... they have a store and sell beef chicken pork and eggs and milk and butter... can't tell you how many times a freezer got left open, or died and no one knew... there are children involved. It's life. Can't even count how many freezers there are, from the butchering farm 30 minutes away to the house farm store and basement... I'll guess there are 18 I have put my eyes on... there are walk ins too. It just happens and tho your volume isn't as high, and animal replacement is definitely not comparable, you move on. One time just before leaving for a month long trip away from home, we just filled our freezer with a side of beef and a deer . Couldn't afford a new freezer but it died several days before heading out. I canned that entire freezer full... the kids loved the ready meat but it was a crazy race to get it all done in time.
We have three freezers and the idea of losing even one is unbearable. We bought WiFi temperature sensors and have one in each freezer. They connect to a hub that sends data to an app on my phone. I have parameters set for temps and if it goes above that I’m alerted immediately. We bought the MOCREO brand off Amazon and they have been working great! We got 3 for less than $100 - cheap insurance!
One - Happy Day that Justin is feeling better! (A lesson in quick care and rest up front being an investment in wellness.) Two - Happy Day that the 3 oldest children are getting it DONE on the farm and doing a real good job! Three - Happy Day when you get your first tomato of the season that you planted. It's wonderful to have your "grocery store" within walking distance! Oh yeah and Justin - I would advise investing in some loud alarms for your freezers to help prevent "oops" from turning into a huge loss of frozen food. Thanks for sharing this vlog today!

Justin.. I think you should get freezer alarms and if it goes above a certain temperature u get an alert on your phones.. that would save you thousands of dollars. . Great video..glad your better. So great to see Randall back ❤
Glad that you are feeling better & back as you say. I want a lawnmower too! Never thought that I'd ever say that. I got a free one from buy nothing. Now that I'm mowing the lawn I'm like ooohhhhhh I want this new lawn mower lol. I'm holding out for 6 months to see if anything changes this winter... You’ve done a great job raising your kids when they keep you honest! ❤
I do agree it is important that we keep our mouth and the Word lined up. So we must speak healing while we pray for healing. As a nurse this has been one of my biggest challenges. So proud of you and your precious family. I do think finding a wholistic doctor would be a good idea.
Jonah..please be very careful with the nail gun…and watch the littles around it too..my husband sells pneumatic tools..to manufacturers and nail guns can be very dangerous..he has had issues of people shooting themselves and causing severe damage..always wear safety glasses! They make work super efficient but please safety first! So glad you’re feeling better Justin! Blessings Rhodes family❤❤
Jonah needs to start writing a book on his accident/recovery and advice to others on how he stayed positive, proactive and motivated to get where he is today! It takes a combination of things to succeed over adversity. It would be a great motivational book for all ages!❤ 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

using a Sous Vide water circulator and water bath is one of the best things for holding liquids at a set temp, been using it to make Yogurt for a while now, its great :)
Beautiful as always. Tomatoes should be picked when turning light orange to harvest before pest and rain ruin. I just learned this myself at 56. 😂 Glad your arm is healing, as that was scary.😢 Love all you share & do. Beautiful, smart, family. Happy day all.
Hi.... Justin Rhodes and Rebecca and your children to love watching your video homestead chicken duck goose farmer garden 🐔🐓🐣🐤🍗🦆🐶🐕🦮🐈🐑🐄🐖🐷🐝 BYE 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋👍👍👍
Justin, they are never ever "just flowers". They are your wife's hopes and dreams and joys. Whatever makes Beauty happy should make you happy, too, even if you don't see the practical value in flowers.
What a great kid offering his brother a try with his new tool. 👏 Sour cream is the same as yogurts but leave it in the dehydrator for 24 hours! So delish!
No epsom sale soak for a deep wound. First when you do it rinse it for 10 minutes with soap and water…..let water ru on it. Dry and get a can of saline wash spray area for the entire can. But some antibiotic cream of and wrap with a sterile gauze and wrap. Do this every day. You can make your own saline wash and keep it room temperature as cold spray sometimes make the would have to come back up to temp to heal. Later use little iodine and sterile medical grade Manuka honey. Do not let it soak in bath water.
To use less chicken feed you need to get 4 food grade buckets, soak half the amount you usually feed and soak it in water for 3 days. Start a new bucket every day to keep your system going. The chickens eat less because they get full faster and they receive more nutrition.
Here's an idea for using over grown zucchini squash. One large zucchini, 1 large onion, 2 large potatos cut up and cooked. Blend with stock ( vegetable, chicken or beef). Sprinkle with cheese of your choosing. Makes a delicious soup. Home made croutons on top is the best. For your size family, probably double it.
I’m up at4am pretty much every morning to get ready for work, leave at 5 am and got a 45 minute drive and start work at 6am, home early afternoon though

I heard Justin ask Gideon if he wanted to try the nail gun. Please nip that in the bud, Gideon does not have the strength to control that gun and an accident could be fatal. Al Lumnah from Lumnah Acres accidentally shot himself in his hip while building his barn. Justin has been doing man's work for a couple of years but his asking Gideon if he wants to try it shows he still has some maturing to do. Please don't let a terrible accident be his learning experience again.

It doesn’t really make sense since if is child has income that income goes under the parents taxes. This country is getting wonky fast.
Justin, I’m so happy your arm is doing better!! Thank God! If we lose you I’m not sure things would go as planned smoothly! Thank God you saw the cord to the $3,000 worth of meat! Omg!
Justin I also wanted to let you know that your TH-cam channel is my absolute favorite TH-cam channel!! I tell everyone about you and your family! Which in turn made me love that Ozark farm. My dearest memories are; Peeling beets Snapping green beans Eating grandpa’s watermelon Gathering fresh eggs Picking blackberries Canning everything from my grandparents garden! Love it still a city girl wanting a farm!
The nail gun brings back memories: My uncle once nail gunned into his finger twice, and I had to bandage him up. My cousin told me, that my uncle had nail gunned himselve into the belly 🤣
I'm 71 & I've never gotten over my love of power tools.. POWER⚡️⚡️
Makes the job easier..

There are alarm systems you can add to all your refrigeration/freezers to let you known when the temp inside drops etc.
We had to purchase 3 of those alarms. They have totally saved us!
Good to know!
Just fyi, cast iron pans should not stick with food. Preheat the pan with fat before putting food into the pan.
They shouldn't yet we all have issues with it 😅
