I think the coolest thing about this video is looking back on Alan's struggles and success. In some of his recent videos he talked about some of the financial struggles he went through in the past few years and how he's just now really doing well. Amazing how big this probably was for him when his gym started getting this type of attention, and guys like Mark Bell and Omar Isuf coming out to train, teach, and make content at Untamed Strength. Alan = the GOAT and is truly inspirational. #AmericanDream
fuck me silent Mike that tip u gave about sitting back on the Deadlift. I always knew that was correct and I have always done that, but I never was told about how it can make the pull easier. fucking blew my mind
You guys always give the most badass deadlift instruction. There's a 60 second video that Mark did years ago that first made me a deadlifter. Awesome vids and great instruction. Loved the vid. PS Silent Mike's looking yoked dude!
Was a really great event, I enjoyed being there quite a bit. Got some great advice from all the guys, and Mark gave my girlfriend some really great detailed advice on her training as well. Great group of guys.
13:20 really good instruction: make your lats so tight you cant get tickled in the armpit. and lemme tell you about my weird situation from Shitthatneverhappensland, wich only happens if you re taught to hold back tourette's tics. i now understand the upperback a lot better. in the deadlift i always teached about the fishingrod effect but i failed to get a deeper understanding of it. but only i happen to have posterior pelvic tilt (anterior is more common), combine that with weak deep cervical flexors and that all with a big bulge on the top of my abs, i couldnt figure it out for years; years i say!!! recently i discovered that i have postpelvtilt and weak deep cervical flexors. everyone has them tightened so every youtube video was about that.. but now i understand so lets ramble about the fishingrod: as the load transfers from the lats to the trapezius, you see the upperback rounding and when locking out you need to use your deep flexors for retracting the shoulders and driving your head back.
I really kick my own butt because I wish reverse grip didn't feel strange to me. I am so use to hook grip and I want to change it so I can hit higher lifts.
The big chest cue causes some to lose core tightness...of course, you can always cue core tightness afterward. Regarding training the squat for more inexperienced lifters.
So from watching Brendan Tietz's videos, and this one, are you using your whole feet of our 1st and 5th metatarsal head and heels to push off the ground? Or just your heels as you load up your hamstrings?
i did the whole thing by accident. noticed that when i "bent" the bar, the amount of force that i needed to generate was a lot less than when my lats weren't activated
So when Mike talks about pulling the bar towards the legs does he actually push the bar against his shins or is it just a kind of a cue to imagine bending the bar around the legs?
Concerning the protection I thought that Andrey said that he would try to avoid a belt or any other accessoires. So I follow this rule since then trying not to use a belt up to 70-80% of my max to strengthen the core more. Does that make sense?
How do you know where you stand in terms of strength? At what point are you considered a strong lifter? For ex, I've been training for 2 years now (bodybuilding style, powerlifting never interested me really) and my DL pr is 545 lb, what would that be considered?
you say you had silent mike deadlifting in a different form than the default form his body naturally goes to during a deadlift.. so when he did the 705lb deadlift he reverted back to his default form, would it not be safer for him to deadlift in his default form ( albeit, that it is a safe ) above a specific weight percent like 70-80%? making form changes at 90%+ is an easy way to get injured, this might utilise his body's natural strongest position. But I'm no way near as experienced as you guys, what do you think ?
Excellent video. I love this channel, so much useful information and great characters. Oh and Mark, my old lady says you look alot cuter with weight on you than a few years ago. I agree, nohomo tho. only on days that end with y.
Its hilarious how many people in this comment section are taking smellys jokes seriously. "This idiot said his head is 97 pounds" "mark bell wasn't fucking lifting in the 50s" .
Hook grip SAVAGE!
Alan Thrall fake
+Al Simmons (Spawn) say those words to your natty hamster
Toversnol EU I was internally screaming that the whole time
Hook Grip is my Bae Grip ;)
"You wanna be stiff."
Waited for Mark to say "hey now" and wasn't disappointed.
Silent Mike's cues starting at 20:30 for leaning back and using hams were huge for me. Thanks for the tips!
Yeah, that blew my mind.
Hands down the best lifting channel. The amount of brilliant free content ye guys put out is crazy.. keep it coming.
Every time you and Silent Mike speak on deadlifts. I learn something new. Thanks!

+JoshDG92 I can't wait to implement this. That shit totally clicked in my head. It will definitely help me!
yeah I am subbing mikes channel for that tip.
It was great when George Leeman taught him that on video!
yeah silent mike is an absolute hero, one of my top youtubers for sure, his approach to coaching is something you can apply and understand very easily
Great video. The 'falling back' has been something I've tried to find my balance with for a while now. This helps, now to practice.
22:44 epiphany! That explanation made total sense, thanks.
This is about the greatest vid on DL I've ever seen.
The crowd did not get Marks humor although I dont know how he determined his head weighed 97 pounds.
"backwards broad jump" never heard of that before but it clicked immediately.
Im kinda tall (6,4) and the technique you showed the tall you literally increased my deadlift max with 40kg!
You're not kinda, you are!
“Kinda” hahaha boy get outta here
That was a great seminar. For someone who has dead lifted for years, I feel like I learned something. Thanks Mark Mike and everyone!
You guys always give the most badass deadlift instruction. There's a 60 second video that Mark did years ago that first made me a deadlifter. Awesome vids and great instruction. Loved the vid. PS Silent Mike's looking yoked dude!
I don't know how this information from Mark and Mike could be any better. Extremely high high quality
watched this this morning and applied some of the principles in my deadlift session just now and it makes a huge difference. great vid. thanks alot
20:23 dude goes from beginner to proper DL with 1 cue from Silent Mike. :)
Might have been something he picked up from when they had George Leeman on!
We need that upper-outer glute toning tutorial
15:53 didn't realize alan was that tall
Ray Yeah he should be on the nba
Ray alan tall
rumour has it, Alan's beard creates its own gravity field
Ray he was standing on something i reckon
Lés Énfant Térriblés yes, his own feet.
Was a really great event, I enjoyed being there quite a bit. Got some great advice from all the guys, and Mark gave my girlfriend some really great detailed advice on her training as well. Great group of guys.
Silent Mike's comment on shooting back when people lose their grip was a subtle but excellent piece of advice
Marks stance info really helped me out. Great info as always man.
Mike's a good coach..alotta decent cues
'When i started powerlifting in the 50's' 😂
I like how simplistic that set-up is cuing
Awesome video! One of the best on deadlifts I've seen! Thanks a lot guys.
all jokes were missed that day
Very informative! I hope to see you guys in Brazil someday!
when are you coming out to CALI and doing some deadline/squat seminars...PS.Mike your teasing me with those shoes....I need those shoes in my life!
*deadlifts
Oh my! You guys are masterful! I love these cues.
"my head weighs 97 pounds" 😂
fuck yea glad to see Alan thrall making it in your channel. dude deserves dome pr
I never knew you should fall back with the weight. That was a great tip! Now what about someone bringing their shoulder backs to help lock the back.
This and layne nortons videos are the best info you can find on deadlift.
Lol layne who injures himself every yeat? Nah man his form is shit
His records speak for themselves. Injuries happen, especially when you're training as hard as he does.
Good video guys! Thanks for posting the seminar.

laurie ybanez For the most part lifters pull more with a hook grip then a reverse grip.
Thanks for the assurance!
laurie ybanez yeah honestly hook grip is almost unlimited grip strength it's just how much abuse you're willing to take on your thumbs
I was about to go study...
That falling backward part sounds about right. Gonna try it out.
The big chest cue causes some to lose core tightness...of course, you can always cue core tightness afterward. Regarding training the squat for more inexperienced lifters.
Best deadlift youtube I've watched.
Was there any motivational talk in this seminar? I love those!
SuperFatTraining is the best channel out there !!!
@12:12 STIFF!. They so wanted to crack a joke..... So much so, Mark turns red just holding back lol
So from watching Brendan Tietz's videos, and this one, are you using your whole feet of our 1st and 5th metatarsal head and heels to push off the ground? Or just your heels as you load up your hamstrings?
As a tall guy with crispy hamstrings, this video is amazing!
It looks like Mike was inadvertently using the 'Frantz rocker' technique on deads. Lol
thanks silent mike for the amazing advice.
Very informative. Thanks fellas
Really want to see the same thing for bench and squat now
awesome thank you guys!!
i did the whole thing by accident. noticed that when i "bent" the bar, the amount of force that i needed to generate was a lot less than when my lats weren't activated
awesome info and dope video

70-80% sounds a little too light to switch to using a belt imo.
Excellent content 👌
Need more on sumo. It definitely doesn't feel the same to me cue wise especially in terms of sitting back vs dropping balls
Very informative. Thanks!
Mike droppin the George Leeman advice at 20:00!

wow there were some really shitty questions... but mark is such a pro, he did a great job explaining and answering the questions.

deadlift on back or leg day ? i kinda feel my arms and back is doing more work than my legs ....

a sincere thanks...
@14:04 Bro, come on, you have chuck tailors and don't know what a stiff legged deadlift is. Your killing me my dude. He had to be kidding.
Excellent video. I love this channel, so much useful information and great characters. Oh and Mark, my old lady says you look alot cuter with weight on you than a few years ago. I agree, nohomo tho. only on days that end with y.
