Very interesting history of a timid man who held on to his beliefs until the end, truely horrific death

An inspirational post. Someone who knew what fate probably waited for the consequences of his actions. It's sad that if things had just held on for 2 more years he wouldn't have died. I had read that if the punishment didn't work the first time you were let off, which didn't happen here. I think that being burnt to death was one of the worst punishments that was ever thought up. Great illustrations as always.

So good for today's Christian's to listen to and learn our history. We may need the Grace of God to follow in their steps just as they followed in Jesus's steps. Thankyou

You might be right Brenda. The world is turning against Christianity. We're persecuted in the Muslim countries, communist countries and now in liberal countries. The way the CoE is going they'll soon be the ones burning us. But, God is still in control.

Very interesting video but I can't help sympathising for his dislike of music if all he heard was a badly played recorder because to me that's the worst sound on earth!

That information and video was amazing 👏 difficult times for him. "A rock and a hard place" spings to mind. Welldone to him for standing up for his beliefs, even if its not ours. Hero

We would do well not to venerate his martyrdom, i think that would truly honour his beliefs.

My ancestor, Nicholas Ridley, was burned at the stake in 1555 with two other martyrs, Hugh Latimer, and Thomas Cranmer.

So little of this is known it should be taught in schools what these brave men and women suffered for there beliefs.

The separation of Church and State is essential. To persecute those who's conscience compels them to seek God in their own way is the height of tyranny.
Tyranny is a social disease, whether exercised by Politicians, clergy, Popes, Fascists or Communists.

Martin Luther broke his vows as a Priest, married a Nun & edited the bible to fit his theology.
He was heavy into Kabbalah & Gnostism. His Crest is an exact replica of the secret society, Rosecrutians.

In this context it refers to a Protestant who dies rather than renounce their religious beliefs. There have been martyrs in all faiths both Christian and non-Christian.

He rejected the teachings of the catholic church. That was a high crime in those days. Thankfully, the catholic church does not have this power over life and death as they did back then.

    • @alittlebitofhistory

Every source I read reported they they did, possibly it was short passages and has just been miss reported over the centuries.

    • @TheEudaemonicPlague
      @TheEudaemonicPlague ปีที่แล้ว

The printing press was invented about half a century before Thomas Bilney was born, and obviously, also long before he was handing out bibles. Why is it that so few netizens of the current era bother to use the tools they have at hand? I'm guessing this is one of the 54% of American adults who read at below sixth grade level.

@@alittlebitofhistory I can more or less understand random nitwits making this mistake, but when someone who runs a channel that gives the impression of having done research on the topics they make videos on does this, all you do is convince me that you _don't_ actually do research. This means you immediately go on my "do not recommend" list, so I don't have to guess whether you bothered researching or not.
