What an excellent documentary. All the more relevant in the context of the recent discovery of the wreck of the Gloucester by the Barnwell brothers from Aylsham. The exhibition at the Norwich Castle Museum has numerous extraordinary artifacts, including the ship's bell and some very well preserved contemporary clothing. It also offers a fascinating exposition of the quest to find the wreck. Well worth a visit.
Yes if only I had waited a few more days I could have included the discovery in the video, I plan to visit the exhibition next time I have a free day off.
Thank you again for a fascinating insight into this historic time. It's terrifying to imagine just how " hard " life was as a sailor without the " trimmings " aboard any ship. Thanks again sir.
Thank you. Maritime history fascinates me b/c it traces us through technological developments, important figures in history, geography and so much more. I welcome more.
Just came across your channel and loved it! You’ve educated my husband and myself. Really like the way you narrate it, clear with no extra sounds ( music or sound effects). Thank you. 👍
Oh goodness!! Given that today’s Eastern Daily Press has a major article on the finding of HMS Gloucester could you please do a video about that biro that I lost last week? I’m sure that I’d find it just like that. 👍👍
Imagine how different history would’ve been had John Churchill died before he could become a military hero and have such an influence on Queen Anne, along with his wife.
please do a documentary on La vierge du bon port sunk on 1666 by Christopher Gunman, the same man who saved the duke of york. He did all this with 1 arm since he lost it in a fight in 1666
Another bit of bad luck in the history of the name Gloucester. I wonder if the Duke of York thought of his younger brother, the the Duke of Gloucester who died tragically young.

Interesting, if tragic, video.
Thank you.
I can’t help bad for the dogs who probably weren’t saved from the lifeboat but took up space of men.
Hey!! Have you seen the news? They found the wreck of the Gloucester today 10.06.22.
Well! They knew how to keep a secret! Apparently it was found about 15 years ago. Did you know “ALBOH”, or was it your historical intuition?
Yes I have heard, will be covering it in a follow up video ASAP.
Interesting story.
I need online books to do a research about HMS Gloucester ..please help me
