    Safety tip: ( from a retired commercial fisherman ) when hand lining fish a: you want a good pair of rubber gloves. You want the ones that have grip on the back of the glove as well as the palm.
    The reason for this is so you can pinch the line between your thumb and the side of your palm allowing the line to lay across the back of your hand as you pull towards you. If the fish decides to run then you can just release the line by opening your thumb.
    This will prevent the line from wrapping around your hand or fingers resulting in loss of hand or digits. ( I've seen this please don't let it happen to you! )
    Make sure to slide your free hand all the way to the shank of the hook before bringing the fish on board or use a gaff otherwise if the fish shakes his head the hook could come loose and you will most likely have a really not so cool piercing through your nose or eyebrow ... ( Have also seen this happen often ) usually with green horns ... 🤘💯🤘⛵❤️

    As someone who works in sound and listens to your videos on headphones, you have a good handle on the wind noise, it's totally fine, some other similar channels are almost unwatchable because of it, so you're all good!

    Hello Mark and your wonderful wife and Yoshi don't worry about the noise and the wind and creaking sounds that's all a part of the journey and sailing it comes with the territory. AHOY ! What a wonderful trip, and fabulous weather. It so good you went into watches, and you all kept fresh. You should not rely on AIS. Mk.1 eyeball, taking hand bearings on other vessels is the way it has been done since Noah was bobbing about in his Ark. If the bearing is steady, the other vessel is either going exactly the same speed and course, or most likely on a collision course. You also have radar. Put it in Head Up mode, and put a dot on ship targets with a Chinagraph pencil every 10 minutes or so. Join the dots and you will see where the ship is going relative to you. A lot of radars have automatic target plotting features. AIS is another excellent aid, but I think only commercial vessels are required to use a transponder. Others with AIS will probably not see Minke via AIS, but Minke will be a pretty good radar target.

    I follow lots of other sailing channels and I can honestly say there is no other channel like this.
    The highest highs and sometimes the lowest lows. The viewer can feel it all, its raw and visceral and very interestingly filmed/edited.
    Your channel is truly unique and special. And look at your likes. Right now 20% of viewers have liked (TH-cams average is 4%). I don't know of any other channels with this much appreciation.
    Gongxi nimen! Keep up the good work!

    I really didn't want this video to end. I've never actually been out of sight of land in a small boat, but I know what it's like to be a couple of miles offshore in conditions like these. It's just wonderful.
    I too am curious to know about the brand of seasickness tablets.
    Many thanks!

    The pleasure was tangible... what a perfect Mediterranean cruise and so genuinely deserved for both of you... all that stress and hard graft you have endured as a rock solid team since jumping in at the 'deep end' with Minke seems to be working out just fine! Your rewards are overdue!
    Outstanding episode... including a top quality catch & cook! That's a whole lot of water 'under the bridge' too!

    Hi sailors , I have commented previously about pre sailing anti sickness! When I was truck driving several years ago I was on a ferry leaving Vilissingen in Holland to arrive in Sheerness after can overnight passage. We were just passing the port entrance when we lunged into the swell! But we were unable to see the sea beyond, we were advised to grab a bowl of hard boiled eggs on the smorgasbord table. There were about 12-12 truck drivers and we all are a couple of hard boiled eggs, tourists caught on to our little trick and took the bowl and also ate some eggs! The steward got some more eggs for those who were on the back of the queue. At breakfast we spoke to the tourists and not one , nor any truck drivers had any sea sickness! Oh and the wave went over the restaurant and the bridge so it was a tad rocky all the way until we got into the Thames/ Medway estuary! So give it a go, it might suit your stomachs as it did for everyone on that ferry journey! Safe sailing, keep your mainsail full of wind! Bye for now David Pearson.

    Watching this stretch to Corsica, I was remembering when your cat was on the hard there in France and was a frightening sight to behold. Now look at you all---you're sailing (with a skosh of motoring) and the vessel has all of the seagoing creaks and groans of a salty dog! This was a very entertaining episode (except for the raw fish---I never could stomach the tar-tar style) and I found myself actually feeling relaxed during the night watches. Do you all have safety harnesses/life vest thingies when you are topside?

    Fantastic episode! I was watching and remembering all the episodes where you had it on-the-hard and did so much work to fix it and make it sea worthy . . . and now . . . you're doing it . . . you two are so fortunate . . . ALL of that HARD WORK has paid off . . . thank you for sharing this experience with us . . . even the doldrums was nice to see . . . it must have been so peaceful out there with no land in site, no wind and just drifting . . . thank you for sharing just a snippet of that with us . . . it IS VERY INTERESTING . . . you might not think it is but all of this is incredibly rich for those of who aren't on your adventure . . . please, please, please keep sharing videos JUST LIKE THIS where you share all-the-things . . . it's a wonderful respite for us and we all wait loyally, every single week, for what is going to transpire next . . . do not worry about whether or not YOU think it's interesting . . . IT IS . . . keep doing you and keep sharing it! It means the world to us!!!

    Always ok to radio the other ships on vhf and ask them if they have seen you. Tell them your course and their plan to avoid you. They are usually quite helpful and have a chat, they are probably bored on watch also

    • @bobfitz6358
      @bobfitz6358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was thinking this also, especially as you have no AIS., Even in the Med anyone on watch is interested in other craft around them. I was wondering Ferries and other larger craft set the most convenient course for themselves and get up to cruise speed and stay there. Does anyone know, do they alter course by a few degrees to pass behind a Sailing Yacht just to be safe or not? Also if you do have any Radio contact you can always ask for the latest weather for your area, I am sure they will help.

    • @JayPerrypersonal
      @JayPerrypersonal 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bobfitz6358 in Greece ferries have right of way even over sailing vessels.
      On a recent 26 hour passage we radios a tanker, he had not seen us at all. He even called us back saying he cannot see us.....we were 2 miles off his bow. I explained we have passive AIS only (until we complete our upgrades) then and only then he did a visual and said OK he sees us!
      Not hard to see at 2 miles as we had white sails up!

    Epic trip,so glad for you all, great to see Nadyana so happy and no,seasickness, yay! I bet Yoshi was glad to get ashore. I took both my dogs on my boat for the first time' not sure they enjoyed it and even though I went to a marina for a,couple of nights my old boy Buddy didn’t do a No. 2 for a day and a half. He was fine. Earplugs are great for when boat is creaking. I used to wear them racing and even with winches shoring 4” above my head I managed to sleep. They never stopped me being alerted to a change of tack or a call to go on deck. Happy days. Andy UK

    Glad to see Nadiyana is suffering from sea sickness. Mads from sail life tried blocking one ear the one opposite to your dominant hand, and claimed that worked for him on the irish sea. Sea sickness was becoming a worry for him too. Yes whales sleep Sperm and Humpbacks sleep at 90 degrees to the surface below the water, and whale strikes from large freighters are blamed on whales sleeping on the surface. I always enjoy spending a half hour with you two....cheers

    Well done guys. Being in the Navy for 26 years and also being motion sickness sensitive you will get used to it over a period of time. You will have to work out your medication doses to suit yourself.
    For me in really heavy seas i took one tablet at 4 am and went back to sleep. Got up to do my shift, took a 1/4 tablet at 10:00 am, 1/2 a tablet at 12:00 pm, and a 1/4 around 4:00 pm.
    From that point i would try to ween myself off the seasick tablets. Which worked after 6 years of being at sea.
    You will get used to it.

    You can get a handheld VHF with AIS you can't transmit your own position but gives you CPA, TCPA etc of all other targets. Good alternative to getting the whole system for the time being.

      Totally agree, I did a Scillies trip in my MacGregor 26 and was concerned about stuff in the TSS. I picked up an AIS receiver for £100 fed from a splitter from my VHF feed. Also it linked into the plotter and my idevices. Very comforting to see where most stuff is, especially at night when you can program alarms to report conflicts.
