  • Dan and Kirk discuss the topic of relapse in the context of sobriety. They share their personal experiences with relapse, highlighting the different ways it can manifest and the challenges it presents. Kirk opens up about his own relapses, detailing the triggers and emotions that led him back to substance use. He reflects on the disappointment and self-blame that accompanied his relapses, as well as the impact they had on his relationships and overall well-being. Kirk and Dan also touch on the importance of support and understanding during the recovery journey, emphasising the need for compassion and self-reflection when addressing relapse.

Menace II Sobriety Live brings the up & coming podcast to the live stage; hosted by Daniel O'Reilly and a special guest, no topic is off-limits. Combining humour with stories and issues which both Daniel and the audience will have experienced, whether first hand or through someone they know. Offering an environment for people to openly discuss their struggles was Daniel's main focus behind starting the podcast, as well as his M.A.T.E group; so now he also brings it to the stage and to the public.
What can people expect at the live podcast:
Join Daniel at Menace II Sobriety Live, as he discusses all things sobriety, ADHD, mental health and more. The podcastwill be recorded live with a special guest, including audience interaction and finishing with an open Q&A.
Daniel will not only be discussing sobriety, but everything life throws at us, and he would love for you to join him. Bring your tissues and your sense of humour, because we have no idea what topics will be discussed, but whatever the conversation, it'll be a supportive environment and may contain some dad jokes.
    Story behind the podcast:
The Menace II Sobriety podcast was set up after Daniel faced his own battles with sobriety, ADHD, mental health and certain life scenarios. He set up a M.A.T.E group on Facebook, so that men could support men in an accessible, open and friendly environment. Upon seeing the responses from men around the world to some of the posts on the group, Daniel was blown away by the kindness and support of strangers. This led him to create the podcast, inviting a range of guests from different backgrounds, sharing his own personal experiences & struggles; and now, opening up to the public in a live environment, where people can come along and watch in-person, or get involved in the audience interaction.

I'm in my 17th year of being clean and sober. Things changed for me when I realised that me and my own ego and self-will was the problem. However, it took me 6 years of failure to learn that. Between 2001 and 2007 I was only willing to go to the meetings I wanted to go to, never stayed until the end, insisted that I would do it on my terms. I would get up every morning and start a fight with the world that I would invariably lose. It didn't work and I destroyed my life. I was in and out of mental hospital, ended up homeless.
It was only after I was completely out of my own ideas that I started to do what people had been suggesting all along. 17 years later I'm living a normal life with all the things that go with it, house car, etc. Being sober for me isn't just not drinking or taking drugs. Its behaving in a sober way. It's growing up and accepting that the world doesn't run according to my rules. Life of life's terms, not my terms.

    Hi Dan, kirk and John,
I just wanted to say thank you so much for doing the podcasts, every week your talkshow inspires me through my sobriety and your little nuggets of information really hit home and stick with me,
So I have a few of my own quotes that I would like to share with you and I hope it also helps others that are struggling.
First one is that it's easier to say no to drinking than it is to stop drinking
    Second is
I find like Dan I only have a problem once I've started drinking
    So
If you have a psychological addiction to alcohol but then have that first drink it becomes a physical addiction so if we don't have that first drink then we have already eliminated that physical addiction
I hope that sticks and keep going with your sobriety, can't wait to see you in colchester next year Dan.
    Cheers
    Chris

Well 4 days is fuckall in the grand scheme of things, you've probably put him through hell for him to think that. You want the world to throw you a party and give you a pat on the back for not sniffing coke for less than a week? Try 4 months and I'm sure people views on you will change, then up it to 4 years. Until then you've got to stay sober and prove people wrong through your actions not words.

I was in recovery meetings for 15 years on and off and let me tell you how these people say we're spiritual, most not all haven't got a clue of a spiritual life , NA is like a dating fellowship , AAcis yhe same but less chaotic , all in all very few really actually work a real program, they dint gossip or judge others, anyone watching these will understand, stick with the winners and a winner is a non judgemental person , low ego and doesn't gossip
