Portnoy back in DT, Mikael growling again, Gojira at the olympics... all we need now is a new The Haunted record and 2024 will be the best year ever 😁
Gojira at the Olympics isn't a flex... have you watched any of it... clown worlds infection
@@Desecrator6 They played in front of a billion people. It's a flex no matter what you think of the olympics.
Gojira performed well, but the song and the whole surroundings were inappropriate to say the least
When you said DT I was like huh? Mike portnoy was never in dark tranquility😂😂

Before Time II by Wintersun
This is the best news I've heard this year. I'm a dude who searches Opeth daily hoping to see something new from them. Thanks Ola, I've been following you since the old voice to text home recording tips you put out, Cheers
I mean the song itself was quite messy, good ideas but not working together in this (admittedly) radio edit. Growling doesn't make it automatically good.
Gojira opened at the Olympics. And now Opeth brings back growls.
I don't care what else happens, 2024 is officially a good year.
Yes! Metal is healthy in 2024!
@@juser-abuser 2024 is even better!
Wintersun's Time II as well this month. Could put another Townsend album in there too, with Powernerd \m/ Lets go!
Portnoy’s returned to DT, Testament finally remasters their first two LPs, (not exactly metal but) King Gizzard releasing a brand new album, 2024 is an amazing year for metal
This is the happiest, best day in the last 5 years of my god forsaken life
Just saw this pop up on Spotify. Can't wait for Opeth's album, can't wait for The Black Dahlia Murder's new album!
Tbh I'm not a fan of the vocals since trevor died, but still insanely pumped to hear Ellis's rifftastic riffation and those distinct slightly phaserish solos....
@@dimebagloomis4951 Yeah I agree, but also am glad that the band is continuing to make music at all since they totally could have just called it and moved onto other projects
New album will be killer! The two new songs are excellent!!!!
@@Aenigmakil yeah I totally agree, got them on repeat atm
OPETH NEVER LEFT.
Heard the song last night. And was like Whoa!! The growls are back.
Just woke up to this video, huge news, ty Ola for breaking it to the community it’s fair to say we’re as excited as you are.
The production is also back too! I love this combination of old and new Opeth in terms of mixing too, a polished metal sound but still a real acoustic sound kept in, not too "typewritery" as Mikael would say but not too acoustic vintage sounding like their past 4 albums either. Kind of reminscent of Jens Bogren's work on Watershed's production actually (maybe starting where they left off there in a way? Wonder who mixed this time?). Can't wait to check it out regardless, that and the new Testament, Dream Theater, and As I Lay Dying records among others I'm sure, whenever they come out.
In cauda ain't like that my dude..in cauda sounds EXACTLY like this, easily the best outa the 4 by FAR, as it's one of the best albums they've made. Made sense he perfected that sound with in cauda and then goes into dm vox again, ha that's so awesome. Perfect
I remember Mike in an interview several years ago saying ''I'm just not interested in singing like that RIGHT NOW'', which made me still hold on to a grain of hope that he would start growling again when it felt like the right time.
I did not expect this. thanks for the tip. OPETH HELL YEAHHH
New Opeth sounds amazing. Two awesome things released on 11th Oct. New Opeth album and the release of Terrifier 3.
Walterri fkn rules! He saved my favorite band. Thank you!! Can't wait to hear the rest of it...
Goosebumps indeed. I listened to it right away and is is a very good song!!! One of my favorite bands!! 🇱🇺
Yea this is wild, I think nearly everyone in the extreme metal world had forgetten about Opeth. What a come back this is likely to be, because, you know, Mikael is a freakin musical genius.
Opeth moving back to their older style of composition, while A tier, would be a step back in their evolution. They were never gone, but I think this blending of Oldpeth and Newpeth will be a penultimate evolution for them. I've never seen a band pull of multiple Magnum Opuses (Opi?) but I sincerely believe they could do it.
Mikael is a brilliant composer, and as far as I'm concerned he will never run out of inspired ideas...EVERY Opeth album is original, unique, and phenomenal.
@@fcamiola 100%. This isn't "going back to old Opeth", this just happens to blend an earlier element with their evolved composition, which is tremendously exciting. I wouldn't really care for BWP part 2 or fan service.
That's... not what 'penultimate' means. And the plural of 'opus' is 'opera' or 'opuses'.
@@d.ryanwebb1166 Yes it is. This will be their *second to last* record.
(Thank you).
This year is meant to be Metal 🤘🔥🖤
I am glad. thanks. cannot wait. long may he continue
YES FINALLY, OPETH IS BACK :D "KEEPER OF HOLY WH0RES"
Nice I’m seeing them next Friday!
Nice I hope for you they play some of the new songs 🤟
Same here! Bloodstock fam 🤘
@IrLosin I hope so too, but the Bloodstock set is a UK exclusive fan-voted set. I figure they'll at least do this new track at the end or to start
Saw them live in July, they where PHENOMENAL! Can't wait for the new album!
That first riff at like 0:53 is totally f'ing killer. Drums are insane ! 16 years later and here we are 🤘
Finally Opeth have come down from their LSD trip
Somehow, I knew he would growl again. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I almost woke up my daughter with all the strange noises I made when the growls first hit me
Opeth growling again, Portnoy back in DT, Gojira in Olympics, Wintersun releasing Time II... This is a glorious year for metal fans!
I actually didn't even know we were waiting for an album until last night it popped in my feed. They're just too big these days, I'd have to travel in Finland to see them. They used to come to my towns nice venues instead of stadiums and festivals. Those smaller venues are the best vibe for Opeth for sure.
I do love Opeth until Ghost Reveries and Mikael's growling in Opeth and Bloodbath, but honestly I wasn't even missing it because he has such a beautiful clean singing voice as well.
We can only hope the Oldpeth remains.
I love the heavy Death growls and was deeply discouraged with their last 4 albums.
Thank you Mikael for staying true to the Metal side of Opeth.
Good song.
It’s been 17 long years. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve liked their music from Heritage onwards, but my god yes. Give me an IV drip of this
great news 3 days before seeing them in frankfurt..hope they play this
It is all about the right drummer I guess, old Opeth's fundamental parts are consist of Martin Lopez, new drummer is something like him, put jazzy parts in heavy music, the trilogy heavy blending with proggy and jazzy elements. Hell yeah...
One Growl doesn't make Oldpeth....we still have to endure the prog-rock😢
Listen to the album version. It’s even better
But it isn't out yet, how TF did you listen to it? Did you buy some pre-orders or win the lottery?

WE ARE SO BACK!!!
\m/ \m/ FUUUUUCK YEAH!!!
Opeth never went anywhere😤. In cauda venenum was simply a masterpiece.
100% 🙌
I agree but I think people are saying that because its been 5 years... not because of ICV
I just saw $1 on the radio. I'm hooked! I'm going to listen to all their albums and songs. Any recommendations to prioritize?
They never left
This is a good news day
I saw them yesterday and it was awesome, so only band I wanna see next is Gojira
Yah baby
This might be a little unrelated but could you do a video about the Dimebag warhead, and what ever happened to it (the one announced last year)
Very nice!
Fuck yeaaaaa baby
Hell Yeah💪🏻
They've been my favorite band since I was a kid, but I haven't listened to anything new since Deliverance. It's Christmas in August.
This has been very good news for metal. First Gojira at Olympics and then Opeth does Growls again 🔥🔥🔥
Portnoy leaves Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree breaks up and Mikael stops growling. Portnoy rejoins Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree gets back together and Mikael growls again. Coincidence? I think not!
This song is like a mashup of Watershed and Heritage though, I'm very excited for the new album to come out! Their newer sound took some time, but it did wind up growing on me in the end.
YES!!!!
In Cauda Venenum is still a masterpiece though. It's been 5 years already, wtf
I wonder if he actually WANTS to growl or if he just realizes that Opeth's newer stuff isn't selling as well? He's been super adamant for years that he doesn't like growling and hates doing it live.
Grymt att Micke ånyo grymtar, av §1 att döma verkar även yxan blivit kompetent efterträdd även om jag varit skeptisk.
On this tour Mikael is growling like crazy. That was a hint.
tbf who has been paying attention to opeth tours the past decade
I had a feeling. Performing a bunch of growl era stuff already seemed to indicate he was training his voice to bring that element back into the new music.
@@LicoriceLain and he sounds so evil on that new song.
@@gwitch i have, and i know many that have as well :)

I'm so happy 🤘🏻😭
I already had hopes when I saw the quite dark and eery looking cover artwork (since it already leaked earlier) but I was still surprised that it indeed really has growls on it.
Oh and btw, I'm also super excited to hear Ian Anderson's (Jethro Tull) contribution on the album.
where did you hear that ian anderson is on it?

So king diamond, opeth, and tbdm are coming out with new albums. Dude
I like it. But Blackwater park is still goated!
It would be so damn funny if the only song with growling in this album was the single.
You gotta get Mikael for a coffee man!!! That would be awesome!!!!
would be funny if this track is the only one with growls
Biggest troll move ever if that was the case
I listened to it again this morning and it’s alright. I’m happy that they brought growls back, now they need to bring back the distortion and get rid of that organ.

I don't think it's a big deal, Mikael's growling at lives these days right
What was the last song they did with growls before this one came out?
Watershed record in 2008:)
Opeth never went away. The last number of albums have been great.
But, Who’s playing drums for them and is he worthy?
Good news. I stop listening to Opeth (my old favorite band) when the last time I saw them, it may have well been Peter, Paul, and Mary. Mikael spent half the time talking about god knows what.
Finally some good Opeth after like 14 years

L take
Bullshit. Real Opeth fans know the deal - every single album is at least GREAT, some are otherworldly.
@@fcamiola Wrong. Gulping up trash doesn't make you a "real" fan. I've been a fan since the late 90s and their change in sound wasn't for the best, IMO.
@@seananderson5334 If you legitimately believe they have not written anything "good" in 14 years then your discernment is nonexistent. "I'm not a fan of their new stuff" is a fair statement. "They haven't written anything good" is an asinine statement.

Fucking YESSSSSSSSS
when Dave Grohl goes prog metal. just kidding. the dude behind Opeth is one of the best musicians ever.
MAGA! Mikael Åkerfeldt Growls Again
Who the f cares if Mikael growls or not?! Good music is all that matters. Growls alone don't make or break any song. Grow up people!
Now it’s emperors turn, ihsahn is living a lie for over twenty years. Come back home to emperor
Bro, his self titled is one of the best albums of this year.
WE’RE SO BACK!
OPETH.
Ola! You and Mikael practially live next to each other.. invite him for a coffee and do the interview in Swedish with no subs attached to fuck with the world.
Opeth were never gone. If growls were all someone wanted from the band then they didn't understand any of the band's music.
But it added to the music. Cake is good but cake with icing is better. People who got into Opeth before their 'prog-rock' era liked them because they were progressive and heavy at the same time so to older fans it is very much a return to form.
Bro acting like growls were the only thing that changed and not the old fart dad prog rock. Clearly you weren’t really listening
Ya I get u, and mostly agree especially compared to what others say. but three of those four albums didn't blow the roof off like some of the dm stuff did. Damnation did ox..now, in cauda v did.he perfected the sound with that album. One of opeths greatest albums..and this new one is that plus the dm being back with it. This could be my fav album potentially comn
mikael n coffee
Maybe it's only one song.
What silly perspective. Opeth were never "gone". The music they've made since Watershed has been as or more incredible than their early body of work. Growls don't make a band. Some of the fans are ridiculously close minded for such an eclectic band. Metalheads like to think of themselves as really open-minded, but there is a certain segment of "metalheads" who are just silly and close-minded when it comes to anything that isn't screamed and/or eardrum piercing loud.
I heard the song, it's like the acknowledgment of there past whilst carrying a fresh approach, I'm happy to hear it, I havnt liked there music since the Pale Communion, the last album was terrible, this is sick though.
What a sell out
The growling feels forced. They'd better leave it be.
OPETH NEVER LEFT. Stupid title
Just listened to it. Nope. And I mean, he was still growling on Watershed, and that album is 👎. There's more to the classic band than just the growls. They are not "back".
I'm not fond of growls, thats just my preference. We had a good run from Heritage to In Cauda Venenum though, so let's let the growly Opeth fans have their time again, they've been complaining for long enough about clean Opeth 😂.
From the 4 albums, what was your fav?
@@philip863 hmmm, a tough one. Probably Pale Communion, followed by In Cauda Venenum. Then Sorceress probably edges out Heritage. Yourself?
@@wilfbiffherb my order is just ICV and PC switched. ICV spoke to me more especially with songs like heart in hand and the last two tracks on the album. I absolutely adore faith in others and eternal rains will come the most from PC.
I didn't used to either. But it's somewhat of an acquired taste, like olives lol. Opeth was actually one of the bands that got me into it.
Ha, I love growls and love harsh vocals, but still appreciated the last 4 albums, my personal pick from this time would be Heritage equally with In cauda Venenum... both albums are just so delicate, sophisticated in their sound, Opeth has shown how to use silence in music.
Stop lying bro. They are not back. It's the same boring 60's prog crap they've done for the last few albums. Akerfeldt growls a lil bit on one song and everyone acts like its Ghost Reveries 2
Ghost Reveries was boring as F.
The only great albums are the first 3, after they started to suck
@@Therionsylar so boring it sold the most
@@eurologic the correlation between the number of sales and the quality of the music is often a good indicator. it often means that the band has to make concessions to make their music more accessible to a larger public.
yeah but the song is boring as F.
Last good album was ''My Arms, Your Hearse'' its been more than 25 years...
