    Fredrik is so good at widdly-woo playing. What a badass.
    One of my favorite things about modern Opeth is that when Fredrik and Mikael trade solos - their styles really come out and you can always tell who is playing which one. They are a great pair.

    • @Cheximus
      @Cheximus 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I actually get very confused as to who plays which solo at the end of Burden. I know Mikael is good, but there are some passages that I'm sure are Fred's but then the next solo is equally as complex and I wonder if that one was actually Fred.

    This reaction is exactly why Fredrik is IMO one of the most interesting players of this generation. The guy has his Yngwie and Blackmore repertoire but mixes it up with really cool sounding fusion-y passages that don't disrupt the overall melodic direction of his solos.

    I’ve all the time in the world for Frederick. Not only is he a genuinely cool guy, but he’s an excellent and hugely underrated guitarist, which for me is really frustrating. Fred deserves much more credit than he gets. You rule Frederick!! Thanks for this Ola!🤘🏻😎💯

    • @Cheximus
      @Cheximus 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      How do you measure credit? A guitarist will never be bigger or more famous than the band. Very rarely, anyway.

    • @saltpeter7429
      @saltpeter7429 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is to his credit that Opeth is an amazing band. Obviously singer being the architect, but that by no means takes away from the contributing musicians. I am grateful that a younger friend of mine pointed me in this direction to check them out, I was reluctant to want to listen to new things, and boy was I a proven fool. I am happy they are not strictly METAL in the stereotypical sense, you know by the numbers, chug, chug, chug. I like every period of their career that I have heard so far.

    Nice seeing an interview with a different member of the band for once. Now to find something like this with the bassist.

    The harmonic dissonance trick really reminds me of Testament's Electric Crown. Cool stuff.

    I agree with you, this guy is so underrated. Now i know his influences and everything got sense. Great interview by the Way!

    Hey Opeth, I just want to say I really enjoy the 'new Opeth' music. I feel grateful to live in a time when these kinds of developments are happening in music. Jazz, classic rock and death metal, so good.

      New Opeth doesn't hold a candle to their older material.

      @@charlcoetzee93 their previous albums (before 2008) are lauded as some of the best albums in the genre. Saying it's subjective is just a copout. It's like saying St. Anger is the best Metallica album when their discography from the 80s exist.

      @@seananderson5334 their new work is a different genre, and it sounds like you just aren't a fan of that. Which is allowed, but that isn't a valid critique on the music itself.

      @@charlcoetzee93 music being a different genre does not exclude or remove it from criticism. And I disagree with their music being a different genre. One of the things that made Opeth so good was their ability to mix and execute genres so well, hence their prog status. Their new stuff is just not particularly interesting when compared to their older material.
