Precious Movie Description:
In New York City's Harlem circa 1987, an overweight, abused, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that she can re-route her life in a better direction.
In 1987 Harlem, 16-year-old Claireece Jones, who goes by her middle name, Precious, is illiterate, overweight, and pregnant--for the second time, by the same man: her biological father, who has molested and raped her since she was a child, but whom she doesn't see otherwise. Her infant daughter, nicknamed Mongo because she has Down Syndrome, lives with Precious' grandmother; Precious herself lives with her mother Mary, who abuses her physically and emotionally. Mary does nothing but smoke, watch TV, and collect welfare through fraud (she doesn't even look for jobs) and believes that education does nothing for Precious; she would rather have Precious also collect welfare, if only to bring money into the household. To escape her life, Precious daydreams of herself in glamorous situations. Because of her current pregnancy, Precious' principal transfers her into an alternative school, where sympathetic teacher Miss Blu Rain tries to convince her that she can have a future if she learns how to read and write, and Precious starts to believe her. Despite devastating news from her mother following her baby's birth, Precious also starts to believe that she can escape the grip of her abusive mother--who, up to this point, was Precious' only real support. - บันเทิง

she did good!!!
@@Everyverginofthebluez Bet!
She did amazing 🙌🏼💐👏🏼
This is my last piece of info to give you, I swear😂. At 38:25, the reason her face looks like that is because she's insecure about being a black woman and never saw herself as beautiful. So she powders her skin to look lighter because she fantasizes about being a white woman. Earlier in the movie, Precious was thinking the same thing when she looked at herself in the mirror and saw a white woman, it's because Mary influenced her that way making her believe she wasn't beautiful as a big black girl
She did good..
Monique scared the FUCkK outta me in this movie. She earned all her awards that year.
for real she played that role so well and now i really hate her because of that character but i dont want to😭
Apparently the only way to earn these awards as mono-racial black women is to play degrading and unflattering roles. Just like Lupita getting awarded for that unpleasant 12 years a slave role and other actresses like Angella Basset winning after struggle roles. Love interest and fluttering roles are left for the ambiguous lighties
@@vioslyyoh I felt like the reason she was so good at that role because she’s really wasn’t acting much..turns out she abandoned one of her sons and treats him like crap😬
@@winterxmm3881 oh yeah i forgot she did that
Mary also forced Precious to eat all the time because she was jealous of her. Precious wasn't always a bigggg, biggggg girl. That's why that dinner scene had Precious in her feelings. She makes her eat so she won't (In her opinion) look beautiful
This movie is so sad I remember I watched this with my mom when I was younger and still makes me cry to this day and both of the books are dark ASF there is no happy ending... Unfortunately in the second book, her son was sexually abusive and became an abuser, and Precious and her mom died from AIDS ... Monique in real life was sexually abused by her brother and I could only imagine how hard it was for her during filming the movie ...
i didn’t know this. thats so sad🥹
Considering the fate of Precious and Abdul, I don't know if I want to know what happened to Mongo.
@@Threeleebird I didn't read the books but I'd hope she was sent to a home for disabled people and could be hapy.
The fact she was having precious do things with her too is the sad part 😢
I hope they never make a sequel to Precious. The sequel book is even more depressing than the first one. What happens to precious is so tragic, and then what happens to her son…
Oh goodness , sad curiosity is going to make me go Google
@@Fluer-de-Lis Basically precious dies from aids very young, her son is violated in foster care, then given to precious mother who abuses him, and then he grows up to be a SO. He assaults young boys at a young age after being assaulted himself.
It’s really sad, there is no happiness for that family.
@spongegar7588 does the book mention what happens to her daughter?
@@spongegar7588ohhhh my gosh!!!!! I would be crying throughout that movie
@@spongegar7588 I’m gonna create a different head canon
Precious was 16, but in real life, the actress Gabourey Sidibe was 26 at the time. She is 41 now. I always wonder why Precious' grandmother didn't step in. Her grandchild was being abused by both parents and she didn't do anything except took care of Precious' oldest child who had down syndrome. No one called CPS? Schools are required to call CPS if they suspected something is going on with a child at home. Precious' father was her children's father and grandfather. Just sick. None of the women in the movie had on makeup. The director Lee Daniels wanted to show the rawness. Only Paula Patton's character was somewhat glam.
the grandma ain’t do nothing because she’s neglectful look at how her daughter came out and how she never checks her
everyone failed her
Who u think raised Mary
The weird thing is. The abuse could've been ended a whole lot sooner than when Precious was 3. Mary was 16 when she slept with Carl while he was fully grown and married to somebody else. Her mother Tootsie was 10 when she had Mary and started working the streets. And Precious was conceived of statutory rape same as her children, and by her very own father who technically is the grandpa as well as the father to those babies. And Mary was mad about it for all the wrong reasons
Mary was more upset that Carl wanted precious more than her and it’s sadly pretty common
@@ACinemafanatic the woman needs therapy
😮 dude I need to read that book
@@cherryrue89 yep
Im so happy your doing this film. The actress felt disgusted playing a mom like her. It is very deep! And triggers some sexual abuse victims. But I'm excited to see the rest of ur reaction ❤
Mary just got lost in the process and look what happens to her...lost her child.....lost everything.
For precious im so glad she's going to have a fresh start.
42:20 seeing Precious walk out with both her kids made me cry- it’s been a while since I’ve seen this movie and that part gets me every time 🥺
Then don’t read the book because she died of AIDS in the end. 🤦🏾♀️
monique played that role so well
Catherine (the teacher) is Paula Patton. She was married to Robin thicke. She sung the female part of can you handle it on usher’s confession album
I remember watching this with my mom. I gave my mom the biggest hug. My mom can be harsh but this is pure abuse. Fun fact about Monique: the reason she was able to portray the role so damn well is because she was channeling her abusive childhood. Specifically her own brother and mother. She was a victim of SA by her brother. Monique said she cried a few times off camera.
Not him saying "I'M ON THE WAY" 😭💀 @4:19
Precious' backstory is the trauma that gets ppl on my 600 lb life because food becomes 'the only thing that loves them' then they gotta go through all this therapy so they can lose the weight
This was sad it's based on a book and I believe in the book precious died from HIV and her son was raped in the foster home. Her son became a sex offender unfortunately.
goddamn
@@ChumsB Yep
Damn what a sad story generational cures can be real
@@shaylawatson1244 yup trauma being passed down
This movie is so good but it's one of those movies I can't watch like that it's just too dark and too disturbing but it is a masterpiece!!
Precious is one of those movies that you can only watch once because it's so disturbing
Precious is a hard movie to watch, I can only watch it every few years 💔
The book is hard to read too.
I discovered this movie when I was 12, that day I was immersed in the computer in the living room and my parents were watching Precious and I remember that I managed to overhear the scene where Precious has a mental breakdown in class when she discovers that she has AIDS and I was like "what kind of movie are you guys watching? wft"
I refused to watch the movie for a long time because I knew it would be a hard pill to swallow but I don't regret having given it a chance, the performances and the message of Precious are really worth it.
I only watched it once and that was it and then when I watched it I didn't finish it because I was so traumatized
My book club read this when the movie came out. I wish I hadn't. Its so disturbing. 😔 If I remember correctly the book was based on some horrible situations experienced by real-life CPS workers- kind of like a collection of the most outrageous stories all added together in this one family.
It's a BOOK👀🤧

Growing up people referenced me to this movie because of my weight. When I finally watched it, it make me so depressed because why compare me to someone who’s going through something so gruesome
Precious is that movie I could only watch just one time. Monique played evil well. I loved her in last year's The Reading movie.
I've only seen it once too. I cannot even watch this reaction. (I'm only commenting for the algorithm.)
Same thing with me it's just to disturbing to play again I could never watch the full thing
It's crazy Monique got the Oscar for this role but it was well deserved
As she should this movie made me really hate her
Nurse John is played by Lenny Kravitz
let me guess it got copyright and then had to reupload
Editing error lol..
@@sl_1k oh ok bout to say
Babies are in liquid the entire time they were in utero , they definitely take on swimming fast because they are used to it.
Well in the sequel novel Abdul turns out like his father/grandfather. Not a happy ending.
The ACTING in this movie is beyond phenomenal.
That's why Monique got an oscar
The scene with the TV being dropped was the biggest, and most impactful moment in the movie for me, because all Precious wanted was a better life for herself, and her kids. All she was talking about in the beginning was things falling on her to end it all, and her true moment of growth was dodging that TV, acknowledging the power she had over her life, and the impact she can make in there children's lives. Sad movie, but good movie
I still feel weird about clips from this movie being used as memes now because this movie is so dark 😢
Yeah me to I never found the memes funny this situation is highly disturbing
One and done type of movie fr never looked at Monique the same 💀💀
Mo’nique acted her mf’n ssa off in this movie!!
I know she is acting but I hated monique in this movie. Movie messed me up mentally.
The way I laughed at that Monster's Inc. pic 🤣 and your expression just made that part funnier.
Grandma Tootsie didn't protect Precious AT ALL!!!
apparently, she had Mary at 10 and became a prostitute according to the book so I'm sure she didn't see anything wrong seeing as it happened to her as well.
@@kiaramichelle6689 yes, but she ain't 10 years old no more, and Mary isn't 16. They're both grown women who didn't protect that girl at all. The old lady didn't snitch like she should have, she looked the other way. And Mary looked the other way after blaming her daughter for her boyfriend's sick behavior. They can make excuses all they want. If you know that a child is being abused, speak up and do something about it
I don’t know your age but please start ignoring ignorant bs on your chat. Great Reaction btw 👌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love♥️
One of THEE best reactions I've seen to this movie ever, bro.
That’s love, thank you🙏🏽
@@sl_1k Of course bro! Love seeing your growth as a content creator.

hey slk precious was a great movie but monique won a oscar for this movie she did good by playing this part
The book is even more traumatic. The movie only touches the surface.
Damn if that's truth then that's sad because the movie is already disturbing and I can barely finish it
Yeah I remember reading the book in High School 😢 it was so difficult to even read.
As soon as I heard you say “if you’re listening scroll down to the like button” my bad 😂 I’m usually watching at work, and forget to.

I had a caregiver just like MoNique's Character, and this movie was always extremely triggering to me . I actually enjoyed watching this review with your humor embedded throughout
So I’ve only seen this movie once and I’m ok with that, it’s just too sad
This is a good sad dark movie. I watched it on Tubi n enjoyed it as well I almost was In tears but not really I did learn couple stuff with Jones n her mom tho.
