    NOTE TO ALL: My 2012 Taco had the front driver's side speakers cross-wired (Probably the rear also, but I'm not replacing them). Toyota had Purple (negative) wires going to the OEM woof and tweeter POSITIVE connections. It should have been the Pink (positive). Replacing the crappy OEM sound, I rectified this. Otherwise the woofers would be going backward instead of pushing out. Soooo... Check online and see what the wiring color codes are for your project!!!

    Great video, guys. You showed exactly what I needed to know and just got a thumbs up from me. Thanks again. BTW..in your opinion, are these speakers really good for what I'm looking for which is improved bass response or could you recommend one in the nearby price range (50 - 100 range)? Everything I have is 2006 factory right now but it does have a really decent stereo in it. I just think it would sound SO much better if it had some decent speakers.

    i went with the 6x9 to 6.5 conversion kit. reason being there are way more options for 6.5 comps than 6x9's and i dont want coaxials.
    wish me luck, im trying to configure a skar 8" shallow sub in the factory JBL box.. gonna take a spacer or 2 ;)

    a question in the 2007 tacoma can you put a 6x9 horn without making any changes to the door, that is, if the horn fits without cutting or adapting anything

  • @lohengrinknight
    @lohengrinknight 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, was this done without replacing the head unit? I'm interested in changing the 6x9 stock speakers but don't know if they will improve the sound a lot by keeping everything else the same way from factory. Thanks for the video. Oh, btw, how much were the speakers, the mounting adapters and the cable harness adapters?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The radio was replaced, however even though they will be underrated with power using the factory head unit, that overall sound quality will be much improved. Adding an amp / replace the radio will then enhance that quality even more. Never hurts to replace the factory speakers.

      lohengrinknight did you replace the speakers with the original head unit? Curious to see if it helped with volume. I drive a 2015 and sometimes the speakers are so low I cant listen to the radio with the windows down.

    • @BulletProofBreast
      @BulletProofBreast 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely can hurt to replace the factory speakers. That's why these cheaper speakers on Amazon usually have a lot of bad reviews. People buy them and swap them in expecting a huge upgrade, but what they find is the superior tweeters accentuate the flaws in their factory radio's dsc and amp and the higher power requirements result in less bass. You won't have to search far to find reviews mentioning these issues online. You need a good amp to give aftermarket speakers what they need

    How can I hook up just the 6x9 full range and not use the tweeter? I want to install coax 6x9s but they will just be getting mid range hooked up like this. How do i get full range signal to the coax and delete the upper tweeter?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speaker is already getting full range signal. Just disconnect the tweeter (at the tweeter, not the harness) so the midrange continues to play.

    So based on recent experience with this, it looks like you're going to be getting sound from the stock "tweeters." Was that your intent?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yessir, the owner of the truck cared less to replace the tweeters, and just wanted a set of coaxials in the doors. So they were running in parallel with the tweeters.

    So the harness adapter was ran behind the bracket ? Wouldn’t there be any leaks ?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Doors are not water tight, but generally your speaker was built with that in mind. If you are worried about moisture, you can purchase speaker foam baffles to seal and protect the rear of the speaker.

    • @budgetpyro1043
      @budgetpyro1043 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry, I wasn’t really specific. I meant air leaks because of how the wire harness adapter was just ran behind the mounting bracket.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, so to fix that, you can sound deaden the door to seal those holes to increase the mid-bass.

    • @paulz.5017
      @paulz.5017 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ProvoBeastAudio If you look close there is a hole at the top of the Metra speaker adapter to run the wires through instead of crushing them against the metal of the door and plastic.. Guess you missed that.

    • @danielj5650
      @danielj5650 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@paulz.5017 the adapter doesn’t fit through that small hole because the plastic piece is too big. And the wires don’t get crushed because where the screws insert it’s slightly elevated by plastic pieces on the truck

    In 80% of cases, doing a swap like this is going to sound worse than he factory speakers (unless they're blown out). Most aftermarket speakers need more power. And installing tweeters behind that metal grill down there powered off of the factory radio (not to mention running them along side the factory tweeters) you're going to add a lot of distortion and mess up your imaging. Nonetheless, great video for showing how to take the door off and buying a proper bracket and wire harness.
