It would make perfect sense for that event to have occurred as the unjust end to a storyline. Simply put, Vince didn't want Bret to beat Shawn Michaels for the WWF championship with the chances of him walking into WCW television with the belt so he simply screwed him out of it. From a "work" perspective, it was essentially a shoot event that didn't actually break kayfabe.

Kayfabe was one of the best things pro wrestling had. It's so much less interesting without it. That said, they can still do a lot of entertaining things of the unbelievable or supernatural sort as long as they go in 100%. None of that bullshit where they have their own announcers calling the gimmicks crap or their wrestlers going on Twitter to destroy any immersion. Regardless of how smart fans have gotten that doesn't mean we have to suddenly completely give up on making interesting stories and characters. So many "superstars" just look like generic guys from the gym and don't draw me in at all. The storylines and promos are high school drama levels bad, and not in a funny way where I look forward to it. Old person rant

Seriously the best live show I've ever seen.
