80's Nostalgia Guy i don't know how much sodium there is in soylent, but just to clarify : the body needs sodium to survive, DRI recommends an average of 1.5g /day. Excess sodium (as people tend to fall in very quickly when they directly add it to meals) can have very bad effects on the heart, but lack of sodium has even way worse ones. Just be careful to take just the sodium you need instead of removing it all, which you can find within some food by itself without adding salt.

Interesting that his top reason for liking tomatoes is that they are "red". He never mentions how things taste. Maybe he has suppressed taste perception and that's why he is so he finds it easy to give up normal food. Food is bland to him and he gets little or no taste enjoyment. Eating something that tastes like paper is easy for him.

@@jaywye If you are less than 20-30 years old, chances are you have never tasted the real fruits and vegetables. I haven't either, but parents, grandparents and other relatives have guaranteed me that nowadays produce is completely different from the one that was around 30+ years ago. Everything now is just plain, they lack a consistent taste, they have strange aromas and after tastes..It's weird.
GMOs are fruits, vegetables and animals that have been genetically modified by new laboratory procedures. Science has given us the ability to make such plants and animals resistant to bacteria, fungi, parasites and so on. They can resist in higher or lower temperatures, they can have a faster development/growth, they can require less light or moisture to grow, they can stay ripe and healthy for longer, or even ripen faster or slower. Nowadays these procedures are being used more and more everyday. We have reached a point where scientists are able to also control size, color, behaviour etc.
But with every perk, we have a loss. And we can't ignore millions of people claiming that food has become tasteless, unnatural, "fake". Meanwhile billion dollar corporations are investing everyday for the development of such technology for the sole purpose of profit. They need big and colorful fruits, huge and muscular animals, crops that can resist any goddamn infection and survive harsh weather. They care about quantity and not quality, they care about looks and not about consistency, they only care about themselves, not about the entire world population!

If you make a good quality product(like apple has with the iPhone) then you will succeed in the free market. Thus, the quality of a product is incentivised to be higher, rather than lower just because capitalists are evil greedy pigs.

@Lauren Doughty soy, is derived from soybeans. It isn't 'fake ass food'; it is processed food just like when you grind a piece of animal flesh into a hamburger.
Starches are bad in excess and our society eats way too much.
Mother's milk is best, tastes pretty good too; but it is sweet as well; the biggest factor is the extra immune help it gives. Way better than drinking milk squeezed out of the teet of cows, sheep, goats, etc. WTF is wrong with humans thinking woman's milk is gross, but its ok to suck the milk out of farm animal and pour it down their throats without a second thought.
Hospitals have special staff to work with new mothers to help them get the baby to breastfeed. They suggest it over anything else. They will spend a lot of time during their stay teaching, coaching, helping. They recommend and some give breast pumps so the woman can at times have a break from the constant suckling. So take your conspiracy theory stuff away. They also don't recommend using specific types of nipples that do have too big of holes and instruct you to use specific shape and firmness nipples that mimic a female nipple closer for those who do use a bottle sometimes (so they can get sleep or give the nipples a rest).
      BTW ...
SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE, 3 years for them to come out with a 'green flavor' and the movie becomes reality.

the man who lived these 30 days on soylent should not just declare that he feels "great, better than in my whole life", but he should use some quantitative data, like body temperature, heart rate, blood analysis, urine analysis, body mass, time of sleep, blood pressure, etc. to draw a valuable conclusion, the experiment should be performed on groups of people with different body mass, age, gender, etc., with many controlled variables that would be tested each separately. this would require a much longer research. without this data, it is way too early to conclude something final about Soylent. also, the conditions of production have to be sterilized, since presence of microbes (bacteria, fungi etc.) would affect the statistics, and lead to a misleading conclusion. also, it might cause health issues of the subjects of the experiment.

@‍1marcelfilms ???????? It literally contains the exact ratio of the reccomended daily requirements of macro/micronutrients. If you (as I have for the last year) consumed only Soylent at your recommended daily caloric intake (basically 2000 Cal/day for me), you would have all of the nutrition your body needs to function perfectly.
I have probably never been healthier, with several micronutrient deficiencies being resolved as per blood tests, my sleep quality having improved (I have several wearable devices that can track the amount and quality of my sleep to a very high degree of accuracy), my body mass index and body composition becoming healthy again, and my heart rate lowering (I previously had a fairly high resting heart rate)
Let me ask you this: do you think it would be healthier to eat nothing but fast food for a year or Soylent for a year?

      Specifically:
      Kingdom: Animalia
      Phylum: Chordata
      Clade: Synapsida
      Class: Mammalia
      Order: Primates
      Suborder: Haplorhini
      Family: Hominidae
      Genus: Homo
      Species: H. sapiens
Sentience doesn’t mean you aren’t an animal. Definition of sentience:
Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive or experience subjectively.
By this definition, dogs are sentient, cats are sentient, and humans are sentient. You’re telling me dogs aren’t animals either? My dog is scared of my dad because she perceives him subjectively as a big and scary dude.
While being human isn’t simply just about your species, at the biological level we’re all humans. Anyone knowledgeable in biology knows this. Hell, this is taught to us as kids. If it makes you feel better to think that you’re better than others who know more than you then by all means, carry on. Do you have any evidence that we aren’t animals? I’d like to hear it.

@@antares5097 na m8, if you can't understand the anomaly that is sentience and see it's importance within the human condition, there's a good chance you aren't, which would explain why you think Human Beings are animals. There's more to humanity than biology friendo
also that definition for sentience is tarded, it's doesn't include anything about free will. No, dogs and cats aren't sentient, nor do they practice free will. A dictionary definition of sentience won't mean anything until we can figure how to properly define sentience.

This is actually not safe at all in the long run. I'm 23 years old and have had Anorexia for 11 years. 2 years ago I reached a point where I mentally couldn't manage solid foods. In an attempt to not further lose weight I decided to consume only fluids, 1600 calories to be exact, which was enough to maintain my current weight at the time.
I drank nutritional supplement (resource, ensure etc.) for a whole year, not having a single bite of food. I felt healthy and I had a lot of energy, but it really fucked up my intestines as well as my teeth.
Not consuming enough solid foods can (and will, eventually) cause twisted bowels/ileus which can be deadly if not treated immediately, as well as gingivitis since the lack of chewing causes your to produce less saliva.
Transitioning back to solids was painful, and it took around 1 year for my bowels to work properly. I weighed 43kgs when I started eating again, but that experience was a lot more painful than the year before when I weighed 34kgs and still ate solids.

America wastes 38% of the food that it produces.
There's more than enough for everyone if we had a more efficient way of getting it to people.
But, fruit and vegetables that are small or misshapen are literally just throw in the trash and never make it to market. Fast food restaurants throw out literally millions of dollars of food every single night. If a grocery store has a box of cereal that breaks open, or goes straight into the trash. It's the waste that's starving people.

Nelson Fernandes Why are we cooking food if we are animals? Why do we prepare food on a plate if we are animals? Why do we decorate our food if we are animals? This is the same thought pattern as a gourmet who works to make a dish look and taste good. This is the opposite thought, why does food need to taste good if we are animals? Why do we need to EAT 3 meals a day? Animals eat to live. We should eat to live. Less energy to get and eat food is why we started to have such large farms, so that only a few people manage the food for everyone else is able to contribute to society in another way.

      @Josee69 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

***** What us your point exacly? We are racional and evolutioned animails we are in the top of the food chain we are in constant evolution thats why we Cook to make food taste better and all that stuff but we still are animals.

    • @xCCflierx
      @xCCflierx 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Precisely because we are evolved, we need this. We are only evolved because we have a sense of time. Animals get food for the now, we save for endlessly in the future. We used to hunt and fish and farm because we had to do it to live. Now we do it for fun. That's what eating has become, just a way to enjoy food. 30000+ hours of our life are spent eating. How productive can you be with that time cut in half, or used completely for something else(drink it while working). Animals don't worry about time. How does using this computer to type a comment help you survive? It doesn't. We are too advanced to dedicate every fiber of our being to living.

I don’t care if this is the future. But it has helped me with my personal struggles. I don’t have much appetite, I am bad at telling when I’m hungry or when I’m full. I even used to faint because i didn’t eat properly. I am not scared of food and I know that I need it but I am very sensitive to consistency and Flavor and with a drink like this it doesn’t change throughout a whole meal which is wonderful for me. I can finally stop worrying about not nourishing well enough. This can help a lot of neurodivergent people who struggle with the same thing or people who struggle with it in general. I can eat whatever i want whenever I want but if I realize that I’m starving and i’d rather faint than to eat then THIS is a life saver. It makes my life a lot easier. I am thinking about trying it for one month straight as well. Just to see if i’d miss anything but if I feel like having something else then I’ll be glad to have the appetite and have whatever it is that I crave. I wonder how this would affect me financially but that’s why I want to test it out. I’ll ask my doctors about it though. Everyone is different. Just wanted to share the thought of how it could help neurodivergent people and that it being the future doesn’t have to be its main point.

Ripping bags open and pouring them into rubbermaids on the floor, with the bearded hat wearing startup bro mixing alongside the woman with gloves and a hairnet. The rat just was the icing on the cake. Proving that nothing should be on the floor in there at all, as it’s contaminated. These are not growing pains, these are mismanaged priorities. Hygiene and cleanliness are of the utmost importance when making food products. Ridiculous.

Consider that $350-500 is normally spent on (usually less nutritious!) traditional foods per month for the average person, AND the fact that they offer discounts for subscriptions and to certain demographics, and offer a rewards system for every purchase, and Soylent becomes a genuinely great option for most people, you and I especially

10 pound / 5 KG Weightloss without any strenght workout might leave you with a lower muscle mass and higher fat mass, than if you did some workout.
I think that Soylent could be usefull in some sense, if you are very outdoor in the summer and not home, it would be practical just to carry some water and powder and mix it when needed - But not a longterm total meal replacement.
Haven't tried the product, and are not going to either.

I can’t see most American families spending 12-14k on just food ( not including non edibles you buy in grocery stores) given that median household income is still between 50-60k per year.
