Do vegetables have taste in America? I thought everything there was just a big colored thing with hormones and GMO in it. Explain to me the taste of tomatoes, and potatoes and then, the taste of peppers...go ahead.
@@jaywye If you are less than 20-30 years old, chances are you have never tasted the real fruits and vegetables. I haven't either, but parents, grandparents and other relatives have guaranteed me that nowadays produce is completely different from the one that was around 30+ years ago. Everything now is just plain, they lack a consistent taste, they have strange aromas and after tastes..It's weird. GMOs are fruits, vegetables and animals that have been genetically modified by new laboratory procedures. Science has given us the ability to make such plants and animals resistant to bacteria, fungi, parasites and so on. They can resist in higher or lower temperatures, they can have a faster development/growth, they can require less light or moisture to grow, they can stay ripe and healthy for longer, or even ripen faster or slower. Nowadays these procedures are being used more and more everyday. We have reached a point where scientists are able to also control size, color, behaviour etc. But with every perk, we have a loss. And we can't ignore millions of people claiming that food has become tasteless, unnatural, "fake". Meanwhile billion dollar corporations are investing everyday for the development of such technology for the sole purpose of profit. They need big and colorful fruits, huge and muscular animals, crops that can resist any goddamn infection and survive harsh weather. @Lauren Doughty soy, is derived from soybeans. It isn't 'fake ass food'; it is processed food just like when you grind a piece of animal flesh into a hamburger. Starches are bad in excess and our society eats way too much. Mother's milk is best, tastes pretty good too; but it is sweet as well; the biggest factor is the extra immune help it gives. Way better than drinking milk squeezed out of the teet of cows, sheep, goats, etc. WTF is wrong with humans thinking woman's milk is gross, but its ok to suck the milk out of farm animal and pour it down their throats without a second thought. Hospitals have special staff to work with new mothers to help them get the baby to breastfeed. They suggest it over anything else. They will spend a lot of time during their stay teaching, coaching, helping. They recommend and some give breast pumps so the woman can at times have a break from the constant suckling. So take your conspiracy theory stuff away. They also don't recommend using specific types of nipples that do have too big of holes and instruct you to use specific shape and firmness nipples that mimic a female nipple closer for those who do use a bottle sometimes (so they can get sleep or give the nipples a rest). BTW ... SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE, 3 years for them to come out with a 'green flavor' and the movie becomes reality.

I really would like to know about your output and BMs at those days. I’m trying to research a little more about it. Also did you have any weird feeling on your stomach or stomachaches after starting solid food?
the man who lived these 30 days on soylent should not just declare that he feels "great, better than in my whole life", but he should use some quantitative data, like body temperature, heart rate, blood analysis, urine analysis, body mass, time of sleep, blood pressure, etc. to draw a valuable conclusion, the experiment should be performed on groups of people with different body mass, age, gender, etc., with many controlled variables that would be tested each separately. this would require a much longer research. without this data, it is way too early to conclude something final about Soylent. also, the conditions of production have to be sterilized, since presence of microbes (bacteria, fungi etc.) would affect the statistics, and lead to a misleading conclusion. also, it might cause health issues of the subjects of the experiment.
@1marcelfilms ???????? It literally contains the exact ratio of the reccomended daily requirements of macro/micronutrients. If you (as I have for the last year) consumed only Soylent at your recommended daily caloric intake (basically 2000 Cal/day for me), you would have all of the nutrition your body needs to function perfectly. I have probably never been healthier, with several micronutrient deficiencies being resolved as per blood tests, my sleep quality having improved (I have several wearable devices that can track the amount and quality of my sleep to a very high degree of accuracy), my body mass index and body composition becoming healthy again, and my heart rate lowering (I previously had a fairly high resting heart rate) Let me ask you this: do you think it would be healthier to eat nothing but fast food for a year or Soylent for a year?
"This is something for animals. Why would I eat this?" Not to burst his bubble but... and I know this is advanced... and that this is earth shattering... but... Humans are animals too. This is basic Biology.
Anglo Eternal Human beings are animals. They belong to the Kingdom Animalia. Specifically: Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Clade: Synapsida Class: Mammalia Order: Primates Suborder: Haplorhini Family: Hominidae Genus: Homo Species: H. sapiens Sentience doesn’t mean you aren’t an animal. Definition of sentience: Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive or experience subjectively. By this definition, dogs are sentient, cats are sentient, and humans are sentient. You’re telling me dogs aren’t animals either? My dog is scared of my dad because she perceives him subjectively as a big and scary dude. While being human isn’t simply just about your species, at the biological level we’re all humans. Anyone knowledgeable in biology knows this. Hell, this is taught to us as kids. If it makes you feel better to think that you’re better than others who know more than you then by all means, carry on. Do you have any evidence that we aren’t animals? I’d like to hear it.
@@antares5097 na m8, if you can't understand the anomaly that is sentience and see it's importance within the human condition, there's a good chance you aren't, which would explain why you think Human Beings are animals. There's more to humanity than biology friendo also that definition for sentience is tarded, it's doesn't include anything about free will. No, dogs and cats aren't sentient, nor do they practice free will. A dictionary definition of sentience won't mean anything until we can figure how to properly define sentience.
Food is not just nutrition. This is the culinary equivalent of a sensory deprivation tank. Can't imagine blinding myself from all those tastes, textures and smells of the real thing.
@@UNSCPILOT Can confirm, I went for 10 weeks eating only a substance like this for medical reasons, and the first thing I ate after was a couple saltines and they tasted like the food of the gods.
Another issue is how the nutrients are absorbed by the body. Taking a vitamin supplement doesn't always yield the same affect as fruit. Neither does table sugar work like fruit. fiber works best not simply added to food. Pouring oil in your mouth can cause a different reaction than eating almonds. I could go on and on but you get the idea. Food is more than just some nutrients.
@@jacobnunya808 absolutely! And his argument that chemicals are just chemicals whether they are from food or man-made is 100% false. Well, I've tried Soylent because I do hate cooking / eating / wasting time on food. After about 12 days in I started having ginormous stomach pains and almost ended up in a hospital. While I love the idea of Soylent (and similar ventures), I'll probably be the last man on Earth to "eat" it again.
Fascinating but gross. Food is an important cultural connection that we all share and there is more then just the dietary needs of food that needs to be satisfied.
yes it's hard to get excited by brown mush. i have a love relationship with food the smell of driving past a restaurant brings a tear of joy to my eyes. then it would just drip right through you and poop out like nothing even happened
Yeah, meanwhile your heart is pumping all the grease around in your arteries from that "food" you're eating. Soilent is a great idea. Very convenient, no BS.
I almost never eat with others and I'm both studying and working. On those days, why the hell not? I guess its for people like me who usually don't eat with others. Then on the occasions I share a meal with someone, I'd obviously eat "real" food. Don't think it's gross in any way really, artificial sure, but then I think you'd better think one more time just how much artificial processed CRAP we eat nowadays. In that sense, this mixture IS probably healthier. I would never ever advice anyone to stay on this more than a few days max/week though, for many reasons
how am i a "fatass" when i have a membership at the YMCA and work out and sit in the sauna like everyday? how does your insult fail to stick to my almost washboard abs? i'm so strong i could probably live off of air if i felt like it. i just eat food because i feel pity for it and don't want it to go to waste.

"I just had a rudimentary knowledge of nutrition, and made something that could be the food of the future" Sounds like this guy didn't want to invest his product in research...
Fundamental problem of this approach is that each person's nutritional needs are unique, depending on genetics, but also on environment, age, physical activity, etc. A 20yo Colombian man who runs 4h a week has different needs than a 60yo Swedish physician. Trying to formulate an ideal food balance that'd fit all humanity is plain non sense.
but the target of this product is the average everyday people, it targets the masses. so using the standard calories consumption and basic nutrients that are consumed by the people is more than enough. to cover the basic needs that human need to keep living is the goal, since he implied that he wants to get rid of hunger caused by poverty, but he didnt say he wants to get rid of "traditional" food all together.
@@panduadikara9078If one wants to fight the hunger caused by poverty, this product is probably not the best way to go. It's really expensive compared to 'real' food. If you live on Soylent only, be prepared to pay $200-250 / month / person. This is a huge amount of money. That's $7-8/day. How many kilos of tomato/potato/banana can you buy with that money ? @@EricVanBuggenhaut well whatever the goal is, since i didnt know about it that well myself, they are getting there. soylent company is huge now and with time prices will get lower (perhap). maybe it's not cheap for other countries outside US or other western countries, for example here in indonesia i could cover my meal easily with 1-2 dollars for a day, 3 meals, if i cook everything by my self. i coud get some eggs, vegetables, potatoes, some rice or pasta, etc. but for other countries? soylent is pretty big. and people are consuming it, it works. not to mention how easy it is to create soylent compared with growing your own food that takes months, countless resources, not to mention the crop wont be succesfull every single time. i dont see why you are so hellbent on denying soylent. it's a good alternative in the long run. but soylent's price could vary greatly in 3rd world countries and could very well be cheaper than my 2 dollars meal if it gets produced in my own country, since it's so easy to create it. they have their price tag now because they're limited with the price of basic material over there in the US. but build a plant in, mexico, indonesia, malaysia, japan, or whatnot, ofcourse the price is gonna drop like crazy.
He didnt talk about that tho, he said how good it is. And he lied after he said its effective (can't spell the original word, mb) - That prob why he eats 2 meals a week - Just to get it all.
The packaging you buy the products from a store in is nowhere near all that is used to get the product from the factory to the store shelf. The powder needs to be kept dry, no matter how humid the environment is. I agree that plastic waste is a huge problem, but when you compare the one plastic bag a day that you get soylent in with the waste that is produced by all food items you usually consume in a day, the soylent packing is way less plastic for most people.
I'm totally on your side but never forget that paper has a huge energy consumption compared to plastic wrapping. I know that it sounds weird. I'm not here to convince somebody but just to maybe make you take a mental note about it
I can’t stop thinking about the mold that grew in the Soylent and the rats running around the warehouse... Kind of makes me wonder what could get into the powder before you buy it
This is “food” grown by a greedy guy that doesn’t care about the hygiene of his factory. There’s thousands of companies that make meal replacement shakes, that have better taste and more nutritional value, do your experiment with quest bars you will have a different outlook on life, specially after hearing their story!
This is actually not safe at all in the long run. I'm 23 years old and have had Anorexia for 11 years. 2 years ago I reached a point where I mentally couldn't manage solid foods. In an attempt to not further lose weight I decided to consume only fluids, 1600 calories to be exact, which was enough to maintain my current weight at the time. I drank nutritional supplement (resource, ensure etc.) for a whole year, not having a single bite of food. I felt healthy and I had a lot of energy, but it really fucked up my intestines as well as my teeth. Not consuming enough solid foods can (and will, eventually) cause twisted bowels/ileus which can be deadly if not treated immediately, as well as gingivitis since the lack of chewing causes your to produce less saliva. Transitioning back to solids was painful, and it took around 1 year for my bowels to work properly. I weighed 43kgs when I started eating again, but that experience was a lot more painful than the year before when I weighed 34kgs and still ate solids.
SDX2000 that defeats the purpose of soylent tho, you’re a lot better of just eating a balanced diet Edit: as someone with a soy allergy (which are common) it’s not exactly the best food to replace all foods
Its not like artificial or organic makes much of a difference in many cases. Like flavorings, it could be identical but based on source. Organic foods can be bad for you in the same ways that artificial foods can be. Its better to know WHAT is bad about food rather than generalizations.
PJ Mo everything is organic, every drug is organic, every food product is organic. It may not be natural but everything comes from plants and the ground.
Furorii Vioz if everything was organic you would see the “organic” mark on all food products...we have the FDA for a reason. This shits processed trash.

America wastes 38% of the food that it produces. There's more than enough for everyone if we had a more efficient way of getting it to people. But, fruit and vegetables that are small or misshapen are literally just throw in the trash and never make it to market. Fast food restaurants throw out literally millions of dollars of food every single night. If a grocery store has a box of cereal that breaks open, or goes straight into the trash. It's the waste that's starving people.
Preach because factories the same way i work in Ice Cream factory that throw away perfectly good package foods because they fall on the ground and I work at this Cookie Factory that did the same but besides throwing it away they feed it to live stocks in big red bins
MakoRuu It's not the waste starving people, there is enough food to feed everyone everyday for years, it's income inequality. Doesn't matter if there is food in the supermarket if you can't afford it....
Nelson Fernandes Why are we cooking food if we are animals? Why do we prepare food on a plate if we are animals? Why do we decorate our food if we are animals? This is the same thought pattern as a gourmet who works to make a dish look and taste good. This is the opposite thought, why does food need to taste good if we are animals? Why do we need to EAT 3 meals a day? Animals eat to live. We should eat to live. Less energy to get and eat food is why we started to have such large farms, so that only a few people manage the food for everyone else is able to contribute to society in another way.
***** What us your point exacly? We are racional and evolutioned animails we are in the top of the food chain we are in constant evolution thats why we Cook to make food taste better and all that stuff but we still are animals.
Precisely because we are evolved, we need this. We are only evolved because we have a sense of time. Animals get food for the now, we save for endlessly in the future. We used to hunt and fish and farm because we had to do it to live. Now we do it for fun. That's what eating has become, just a way to enjoy food. 30000+ hours of our life are spent eating. How productive can you be with that time cut in half, or used completely for something else(drink it while working). Animals don't worry about time. How does using this computer to type a comment help you survive? It doesn't. We are too advanced to dedicate every fiber of our being to living.
this is just an improved version of the porridge most people ate in the middle ages. It sucked then and it still sucks. Why stop at food? We could all wear the same clothes to maximize productivity and minimize cost. I suggest grey.
yes lets just allocate a cocktail of shitty chemicals as the standard food for poor people. canola oil and maltodextrin, MMM DELICIOUS, I CAN TASTE THE CANCER!
I don’t care if this is the future. But it has helped me with my personal struggles. I don’t have much appetite, I am bad at telling when I’m hungry or when I’m full. I even used to faint because i didn’t eat properly. I am not scared of food and I know that I need it but I am very sensitive to consistency and Flavor and with a drink like this it doesn’t change throughout a whole meal which is wonderful for me. I can finally stop worrying about not nourishing well enough. This can help a lot of neurodivergent people who struggle with the same thing or people who struggle with it in general. I can eat whatever i want whenever I want but if I realize that I’m starving and i’d rather faint than to eat then THIS is a life saver. It makes my life a lot easier. I am thinking about trying it for one month straight as well. Just to see if i’d miss anything but if I feel like having something else then I’ll be glad to have the appetite and have whatever it is that I crave. I wonder how this would affect me financially but that’s why I want to test it out. I’ll ask my doctors about it though. Everyone is different. Just wanted to share the thought of how it could help neurodivergent people and that it being the future doesn’t have to be its main point.
The conditions of where the product was being made were truly horrific. My god. Ripping bags open and pouring them into rubbermaids on the floor, with the bearded hat wearing startup bro mixing alongside the woman with gloves and a hairnet. The rat just was the icing on the cake. Proving that nothing should be on the floor in there at all, as it’s contaminated. These are not growing pains, these are mismanaged priorities. Hygiene and cleanliness are of the utmost importance when making food products. Ridiculous. No wonder this shit was banned in Canada even years later. He clearly never put his focus on this aspect.
svenm sandity Well being that we’re all different heights and weights, we all have our own caloric intake. Big issue with these shakes in that it shrinks your stomach. Do this for 30 days and half of what you eat in a meal will seem 3 times the size.

How about a little journalism ? Like checking the hygiene and food safety in production, the nutritional content. And then ask a doctor or dietician to review it... This is a vlog about your experience, nothing more.
Yeah. 65$/week per person? I don’t spend that much money to feed my family. I would think those who eat meat spend more but still not $250-300 per week. Or maybe they do? I can’t see most American families spending 12-14k on just food ( not including non edibles you buy in grocery stores) given that median household income is still between 50-60k per year.

They care about quantity and not quality, they care about looks and not about consistency, they only care about themselves, not about the entire world population!
@@Albanez39 lol dude you sound like a communist, of course they care about quality(if nobody likes the quality/price ratio nobody will buy it). the man who lived these 30 days on soylent should not just declare that he feels "great, better than in my whole life", but he should use some quantitative data, like body temperature, heart rate, blood analysis, urine analysis, body mass, time of sleep, blood pressure, etc. to draw a valuable conclusion, the experiment should be performed on groups of people with different body mass, age, gender, etc., with many controlled variables that would be tested each separately. this would require a much longer research. without this data, it is way too early to conclude something final about Soylent. also, the conditions of production have to be sterilized, since presence of microbes (bacteria, fungi etc.) would affect the statistics, and lead to a misleading conclusion. also, it might cause health issues of the subjects of the experiment.

The segment with the doctor was useless. He might as well have just asked his Aunt what she thought.
The microbes in the soylent are probably more nutritious than soylent itself
@1marcelfilms ???????? It literally contains the exact ratio of the reccomended daily requirements of macro/micronutrients. If you (as I have for the last year) consumed only Soylent at your recommended daily caloric intake (basically 2000 Cal/day for me), you would have all of the nutrition your body needs to function perfectly.
I have probably never been healthier, with several micronutrient deficiencies being resolved as per blood tests, my sleep quality having improved (I have several wearable devices that can track the amount and quality of my sleep to a very high degree of accuracy), my body mass index and body composition becoming healthy again, and my heart rate lowering (I previously had a fairly high resting heart rate)

Sentience doesn’t mean you aren’t an animal. Definition of sentience:
Sentience is the capacity to feel, perceive or experience subjectively.
There's more to humanity than biology friendo
also that definition for sentience is tarded, it's doesn't include anything about free will. No, dogs and cats aren't sentient, nor do they practice free will. A dictionary definition of sentience won't mean anything until we can figure how to properly define sentience.

@Justin Martone Um No. Meals for me are generally one of the highlights of the day. Even preparing food can be a way to destress after a busy day.

So you are saying we need to bake Soylent into bread and biscuits?

Thats a really good idea!
yes lets just allocate a cocktail of shitty chemicals as the standard food for poor people. canola oil and maltodextrin, MMM DELICIOUS, I CAN TASTE THE CANCER!

Fun fact: most of poor countries are food producers

oof, are u also scared of dihydrogen monoxide
Just wanted to share the thought of how it could help neurodivergent people and that it being the future doesn’t have to be its main point.
btw generally talking about meal replacement (there are quite a view brands by now)
The conditions of where the product was being made were truly horrific.

Really? He just looked like an average college student to me, lol.
why
He looked spooky
A guy who dedicates his life to think about how everybody could feed free in the furure...yeah, what a sociopath.
free from food? fuck dude, food is a pleasure,, this man wants to reserve that for the wealthy while everyone else drinks his bullshit sludge.

The soylent creator honestly doesn't look all that healthy
Eating leaves is for animals? Wait, people say we are animals. Wait, non-animals eat leaves. Wait! Leaves are good for you. We should eat leaves.
Leaves are a plant and he was eating tomatoes 🍅....
He is a hypocrite
Me: *goes to kitchen and eats a pound of raw spinach* what's this about homo sapiens eating leaves?
We are animals, seeing as how we're part of the animal kingdom. While it's an interesting idea, dude seems a tad sketchy...
and that was where I stopped the video. dumbest shit I've ever heard.
He was six years old like wtf. He didn't say he still believes the same thing.
It's really no different than meal replacement shakes, just marketed differently & tastes/smells like shit.
also fucks you up real bad. If it has the calories that needed for a day and everything your body needs, how he lost 10 pounds... Somethings off...
@@bekenhagyjal7567 IDK IF IT'S CRAP OR NOT,BUT YOU CAN LOOSE 10 P. WITH QUALITY MEALS.ALTHOUGH I REALLY DOUBT THAT'S THE CASE HERE!!
It certainly doesn’t taste like shit. I’m drinking one of the cacao drinks right now and it’s absolutely fine. What are you expecting, haute cuisine?
jay eberhardt Its Ensure or Boost with less users/flavor
svenm sandity Well being that we’re all different heights and weights, we all have our own caloric intake. Big issue with these shakes in that it shrinks your stomach. Do this for 30 days and half of what you eat in a meal will seem 3 times the size.

I don't see how this is new or innovative or any different than a meal replacement smoothie like slimfast or garden of life powder.
*You know that gut feeling you get just before a catastrophic event?*

Man. This did not age well.
Lol seriously

"Why would I eat leaves?" This is why everyone feels like shit nowadays.
But like, why would you eat leaves?
Soy is still incredibly gay though
Shuckle Squad "soy is incredibly gay"
wat
Soy is a plant too? So what was his logic
Plus he said because animals eat plants. Does he think we're not by technicality an animal? 🙄 He seems to be hooked on this first stage "primative-ness". He tried to make the argument that we used horses for transportation then moved on to cars. Well all the metals and parts rubber leather in cars come from the earth. Not to even mention if you have a gas powered car. This guy is extremely weird and has a few wires crossed.
Rachel Cone Yeah, i guess he was referring to the simplicity of animals brains, not the technical classification, but he's crazy anyways because he want to SUBSTITUTE eating. Well, if a child looked at a human body, she could explain why we can't ONLY DRINK nutrient-boosted-and-overpriced-shit

$65 for a weeks worth, really? i could eat reg food for cheap, so why would I want to drink that stuff instead . No thanks lol.
that amounts to about $3.09 per meal. cheaper than eating out and would be better for areas where having food is rarer than having access to water that can be purified.
@@77yvurc you fail 4th grade math? 65/7 = $9.28 per meal

"I like tomatoes because my favorite color is red. Eating kale is weird because it's leaves." I'm pretty sure this guy just doesn't really like food and he's trying to convince the rest of us that we don't either.
Actually I'm fascinated about this product because I hate food and having to eat every day.
Dude sounds like a picky child lmao
@@LinuxIsNotAnOperatingSystem You should give it a try! A month's supply (28 days worth at 2000 Calories per day) is only $232, or $174 for your first order. Consider that $350-500 is normally spent on (usually less nutritious!) traditional foods per month for the average person, AND the fact that they offer discounts for subscriptions and to certain demographics, and offer a rewards system for every purchase, and Soylent becomes a genuinely great option for most people, you and I especially
I have a huge problem in that I have essentially no appetite ever and simply forget to eat, and Soylent has basically been my saving grace
Give it a try my friend, it'd be a great option for you
@@Nawmps this has to be satire

I know im 5½ years late, but maybe some workout to keep the muscle mass going.
10 pound / 5 KG Weightloss without any strenght workout might leave you with a lower muscle mass and higher fat mass, than if you did some workout.
I think that Soylent could be usefull in some sense, if you are very outdoor in the summer and not home, it would be practical just to carry some water and powder and mix it when needed - But not a longterm total meal replacement.
Haven't tried the product, and are not going to either.

How about a little journalism ? Like checking the hygiene and food safety in production, the nutritional content. And then ask a doctor or dietician to review it... This is a vlog about your experience, nothing more.
You’re not very observant are you
they never said it was something more, did they?
They literally stated that there was a rat in the production - that would be terrible advertising
Poor, hungry people dont have the money to buy this product.
maybe not soylent specifically, but something similar and cheaper will definitely be in our futures.
this is 2$ per meal - how is that not cheap? Also, this is obviously not scaled enough.
Karl Koch I assumed the other guy knew what he was talking about hahaha
"SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOPLE!!!"

Yeah that's some shady business man I feel you
I had to go back. That’s fucked up
So the cheapskate in me says the that nothing about this is proprietary, and I could literally also buy the ingredients off Amazon (like Soylent does) and make my own for a fraction of the cost
the cheapskate in you is partly correct, there's actually a site all about that very thing. diy.soylent.com/
Soylent is entirely open source and encourages users to post variations of recipes on diy.soylent.com. That's one of the things that drew me to them; you have to admit "open source food" is pretty intriguing.
