- Breaking down Lake Okeechobee in preparation for my upcoming 2 day tournament with the Space Coast Bass Finatics! I cover some of the most famous and productive spots on the lake! Lake O is not at it's glory right now, but still an Awesome Fishery! I encourage you to do some research on the troubled history of Lake Okeechobee as well a the current threats to the lkae today! Just saw this. Loved this video. Loved it. No Hollywood BS. Excellent approach with historical and hydrological background of the lake. Above all, you touched upon the ecological problems there. I concur with your analysis of the problems there.
I have hauled my boat 1200 miles to this place but didn't know what I was doing. I am now enlightened. Looking forward to your future videos......................................

Thank you! I am really enjoying doing these...just under a week I'll be down there putting it to the test! I have noticed over the last week it seems they're dropping the level 3-6" each day. Have to see what the fish think of that...
Sad to see the mismanagement of Florida waters. That lake was so cool when I was growing up.
It does still have it's shining moments. Many organizations working hard to stop what's been happening. We all need to keep the pressure on to make changes!

@@AteUpBassFishing yeah didn’t go this weekend. But prior it was high and there was some dirty water due to recent storms I believe but majority was fine.

Sorry for the delayed response! Glad you enjoyed the video. Volume is an easy adjustment, I will try and be more mindful going forward! To loud is easy for the viewer, just turn down but if I don't give enough volume it makes it hard, I will do better!!

Sorry for the late reply....That can be a worry for sure in some areas! Water is still on the high side so not as bad, but one day of practice I went through a cut and had to sit down...ended up on the trolling motor for 2 miles before I found just enough water to jump back up on plane! As the water gets lower coquina bars come into to play....big time damage there!

@@Bigdawgmikeholmes Be cautious! Water is still dropping and The Toyota series is running out of Clewiston today through Saturday on top of any number of local groups! I did find that there is a shad spawn happenning as well as the last day of the tournament for me I found a large group schooled up near the outside edges! Wore 'em out for an hour on a rattle trap! My GoPro's overheated and didn't record it though....

So the Kissimmee river comes in, but no water is going out resulting in stagnated water where algae blooms flourish. Theres the problem in a nutshell. Sam issue Southern lake Michigan had in the late 1800s which the solved with drainage reversal.
Our problem unfortunately can't be solved like that... Government has created and caused all this. Putting a rim canal around Okeechobee, straight cutting much of the Kissimmee river and adding water control gates stopped the historic flow of the Kissimmee River basin which flowed into Big O and eventually on out the south through the Everglades. All this was done in the name of progress and protecting Miami development. From Lake Kissimmee all the way through Okeechobee is 90 farm land so all the runoff water on top of the spraying and these our our results. A horrible cycle Gov has created

Going to Okeechobee this weekend for a 2-day club tournament myself. How did you do in yours?
Well....kinda spun out day 1 had a decent day 2 but really put myself in impossible position on day 1.

Our club launches each year in Harney Pond at Herbert Hoover Dike boat launch. When I have practiced, especially if I am targeting the Tin House area I will launch at Scott Driver on the Kissimmee river
How did you end doing in the derby ?
Sorry for the delayed response! Been on a little break! That derby was not to kind to me! I struggled day 1, managed a small limit on day 2. Looking forward to an update video on the lake and some redmption come March!!!! Thanks for watching!

I am sure there are recreational areas around the lake that offer fishing in the rim canal
