Jared and I fished the first qualifier of 2024 for the Roland Martin Marine Center Series. We caught almost 18lbs and finished 34th. We started up on the north end of the lake where I had found some fish pitching reeds after the morning shad spawn. I really thought this was going to be a place where we stayed all day but after arriving to the spot, we saw that the water had muddied up so we decided to leave and run back south so some shallow water. In that area, there were tons of bluegill beds we were targeting. Using a 7’6” Scenko Stix “REED BEATER” with a 1/2oz weight paired with a gambler boxercraw. Also, I threw a gambler poppin frog a bunch but could never get the big ones to commit to it. The big girls only wanted a flippin jig. As you’ll see in the video, Jared caught a lot better quality on the flippin jig than I did on the 1/2oz weight.

Did the lake come back up ? I know you guys want 12.4 or something 😢 and my biggest fish for the longest actually came on 10lb braid and a junebug yum dinger on a spinning rod that waked on it coming back in. . So I killed it and it toilet bowl flushed me 8# 6oz but have a few 9s now .. lol still hunting for a 10

Yes. Lake did come back up. Heard it is still fishing really good. Took 30lbs to win last weekend. I haven’t been able to beat my PB yet. 10lbs 13oz when I was 7 years old. If we keep at it, we will someday break that. Tight lines🎣

Jared is using a 7’5” HF oldschool gloomis rod. Can’t find them anymore and G-loomis does not make anything like that anymore. Scenko Stix makes a 7’6” HF(Reed Beater) that is even better. Same action but more sensitivity. Actually getting Jared to make the switch after he used it a few times.
He was using a Gambler ninja jig. 3/4oz black n blue. 65lb suffix performance braid. Trailer was a Gambler whyknot. He likes a bigger profile for his jig.
Check out Scenko Stix’s website. If you decide to get a jig rod, thats the only rod I would put in my hands. Use code MCMILLAN10 and youll get 10% off man. Tight lines🎣
