The open belt and pulley setup reminds me of an old VW Beetle. Simple, but it works.

The cog on that machine is great. I would love to see this idea done with a peerless and possibly a solid axle . But the buggy thing idea is just great I love the view from the back with the belt and pully . It would be awesome to mount an opposed Briggs on it just to make the look

A cheap ebay torque converter would work pretty well on that.

And I was glad to see safety glasses ,and holding the angle grinder until it stopped turning.
I'm sure Dad has shown him what can happen when fast spinning things suddenly come to a stop.
I know the first time I saw something grenade apart that seemed relatively harmless like a spinning drill bit,it made me wake up.

Dude you’re such an awesome father.
Mine was absent but a gear head, sigh he never passed much on. That was his brother an Air Force mechanic.
Anyhow I was wondering since I’m years past shop class but would still enjoy passing life skills like this down to folks. How would one get into mechanics? I’ve owned some rock crawlers and done some amateur stuff on them but welding and more in depth subjects like full on auto mechanics is where it’s at.
    Hmm…junior college?

I'm fully self taught. My grandfather was fond of the phase "Its droken what the hell does it matter if you break it more? Take it apart and try at least." That went for anything and everything growing up.

I like your secret on the step bit, just recently started using a step bit for the first time myself I didn't use a rap file I used a jigsaw, and you don't have to do it at all for a corners, let's say you didn't get it centered to begin with, just do it on the side where you need the bit to go more toward, it's like searing the bit to the center point you originally wanted, worked for me anyway. And I used a lot more cuts than just 4

I took a Craftsman tractor mower and put a 2 inch on the transmission input shaft. I got 55 MPH out of it before it slung the pulley off. It went completely through the seat ripping me a hysterectomy in my rear. And I'm not even a woman. I still walk bowlegged.

Looks like fun, but I think you had your tensioner on the correct side before. It should go on the slack side not the drive side. From the rear the engine turns clockwise, right?

Dad: it wasn't you son it was the machine.
Son: probably thinking dad it's a homemade go kart. get out the way I'm going for it and don't worry you can fix it later.
I have a 5 year old trust me I've had the phrase "Don't worry I can fix it." passed down from papaw. if he only knew what I'm required to fix. anything from barbies to barricades. 😆

Is there any other transmissions that are geared capable of 28+mph?

    • @redneckcomputergeek
      @redneckcomputergeek  ปีที่แล้ว

Any 5 or 6 speed with this pulley ratio would do about 25+ with the governor deleted in the engine so it would turn 4500 RPM. The limiter here is the engine pulley to go faster it needs to be bigger and my bet is the clutch would burn out if it had a bigger pulley.

Best transaxle for high speed and great torque and endless endurance and abuse proof was the Peerless Model 600 old 3 speed with the H pattern and gear lube rather than grease lubricant. These I know personally are able to withstand a 2.75" pulley and speeds sustainable well beyond 55mph without any problems. They are also easy to shift through the gears mainly utilizing 2nd & 3rd. Second Is a perfect power and great mid-range pulling gear, 1st seems a waste of time unless your on a hill. But shifting from 2nd to 3rd is fun as hell and 3rd your begin to fly! And you continue to accelerate until you float some valve springs. I know it's been into the low to mid 60s on a tractor, that's extremely scary feeling and sketchy lol. But try to get your hands on one it's so worth the effort. The only issue that is known is the outer iron hubs or axle braces of these transaxles some used needle bearings and lip seals with no source of lubricant because the transmission is lip sealed before the iron axle braces and they're known to run dry and harm the axle .75" keyed. Then later on Peerless switched to bushings on the outside braces, and it caused the same problem with wearing the axle. The hardest part was finding back in the early 90s enough of these transaxles and good axles. Today I would just make new axles for the things. But look for a Peerless model 600. All ball bearings and needle bearings inside and bullet proof when a little attention is applied to them.
