Hard to say - everyone is different! I can use the technique also with very light sticks but it does not sound as powerful as with heavy ones. I think I would feel uncomfortable with this sticks.

I mean, I've heard of a story that a guy did a kickstarter thing where he asked for 20$ to make a cake. And he got 20 000$ because people thought it was a fun idea. Keep making those videos, and in time, you'll get enough attention. You rock!

+MorganvanHelsing I don't know your taste in snare drums obviously but I know that I'm looking the buy the "Mapex Black Panther - Machete". Sounds and looks like a beast and is apparently supposed to cut through anything, so it should be great for blast beats. The black panther snares seem really nice overall but the machete is definitely the one that I have the most interest in. Actually a bit cheaper here in Sweden than at Thomann's which is definitely a rarity. Other than that I highly recommend the one I'm currently using. A Pearl Vision Series Birch. It really is a beast and with the Evans hybrid batter head (and new snare wires and resonant head) ... damn! If you're at all into the kind of sound you hear from Dying Fetus' latest album, just crank it up and you have it!

This guy is pretty good as far as speed. But if you guys want to see some real speed drumming with a lot of creativity and rhythm then you need to take a look at Buddy Rich's stuff. That guy was incredible even at the age of 64 when he played Concert of the Americas in 1982. I mean absolute kick ass. Rich didn't need techniques. He was all pure talent and I still haven't seen anyone out-do him at a drum set. Seriously, start with Rich and work your way down if you want to learn something really cool about the history of drumming.

Max Echendu I used to mount my ride right on top of my floor Tom, no stand or anything, just set right on top. It was really innovative when you think about it. I mean, nobody else was doing it at the time

I love hearing this kind of drumming on real, acoustic drums and no triggered, studio DAW bullshit. Plus, I have a Mapex and hear it played like this is awesome.
+HabAnagarek Im pretty sure his drums wasn't really tuned so it would pretty much sound like that if he was to record it in the studio. It's all about tuning.

th3 GreAtMan _LOVE You are right about tuning though. It's one of the most looked over parts of the drum kit, in my opinion, but it's also probably the most important as well. There's a reason why most drummers want John Bonham's sound
EZCreepin Yeah, a lot of drummers don't even care about quality and sound anymore they just want to play drums. There not a problem with that it's just when you play, the main goal is for the music to sound good.

Man...you've got that down like crazy! I have been practicing this method for about 4 months and I am only at about 170 on doubles around the kit and thats only about a minute then I can't move lol. I practice on a pillow so I'll keep progressing but 280?? Dammit dude that is so freaking crazy. How many years did you spend developing that? Your feet are on god damn point also, man. You're an excellent drummer.

+Joshua Banks Hour at least. Most days I try to spend 2 hrs at the pad and an hour at the kit. I'm at about 185 for consistant doubles around the kit. It takes so long to develop rudiments. Let alone all the other shit I'm trying to practice. You play? What's your routine? Love talking to other drummers about their practice regimen.
Yeh I do. I usually play a couple hours a day (on average) but have only recently being interested in double stroke rolls(I have always done singles). I can do my double stroke at about 140 but being able to do 180ish would be nice. I don't really have a routine as I've just started a week or two ago. I was previously focused on my single roll which I have got to about 240-250. My single roll exercises usually involved building speed and holding for around 5-15 mins. Should I take a similar approach with my double stroke roll? What works best for you?
+Joshua Banks Man 140 for only starting doubles 2 weeks ago is great! I started em around feb and I couldn't do 120 so I mean it didn't take too long to get them to where they are now. And 250 for your singles is awesome. Do the same thing with your doubles you did with your singles...you'll be at 180 in 3 months tops I'd say. Its funny because as soon as you start to see progress you wont wanna stop. That's what happened to me. Good luck dude.

Eh.. semantics. I learnt alot from this vid and I'm going to try out that technique when I get home. All this talk of "finding where the rebound is" wasn't really flowing with me.

You may be missing the point, he is explaining the technique of the double stroke, and this guy has some amazing skill at it. if you get good with this type of skill it will allow you to put double strokes into fills that will add ghost notes will little or no effort at amazing speed. You can see drummer like Neal Peart or Chad Smith use these double strokes in the fills and you don't even really notice it but it has some really good effect. Your stamina to keep this type of drumming up through a 45 minute set would have to be out of this world.
So while i don't really like this super speed drumming the skill is very usable and he does a great job of showing what you can to with it if you master the skill. To note this skill is uses a lot if jazz.

Krasse Blast Beat Technik. Selbst ohne Trigger hört man bei 280 noch schön sauber die Schläge auf der Snare, dass du die blasts auch so lange halten kannst ist erstaunlich. George Kollias, kann ich dir versichern, schafft es nicht bei 280 bpm so lange Blast Beats zu spielen.
Danke! Kollias benutzt aber auch nur einen Fuß bei seinen Blast Beats bei diesen Geschwindigkeiten, was bei mir absolut nicht möglich wäre.
MorganvanHelsing Kollias kann mit seinem rechten Fuss wahrscheinlich mehr als 300 bpm spielen, das Problem sind mehr seine Hände denke ich. Wenn du dir songs wie "call to destruction" oder so anschaust, fällt auf, dass er spätestens nach 5 Sekunden eine Pause braucht.

um, this is the basic strokes of drumming.
+BlackLocustMusic It's a "Technique" The motion mechanics are different than the traditional way to play a double.Many players use "Fingers" and rely on rebound.This technique does not. I hope that clears up any confusion you may be experiencing.

crave5885 - agreed! seems like a shortcut if you ask me. you want speed but dont want to use as much power? pay the price later, because instead of using the advantages of rebounds, you are sacraficing your delicate limb parts to compinsate.
I've tried his technique, and it works pretty well for short drum rolls or fills. But I'd agree with you that this technique for blasting at above 12 consecutive notes per second can take its toll on our fingers.
Can't deny the skill that's being used here, but the overall sound is the kind of drumming I can't stand. I have never been a fan of blast beats and never will be. Tasteless, no groove, no feel, just a bashing sound repeated over and over again. Ugh.
It's okay I understand. If you combine blast beats with other kinds of drumming - it is not that mundane after all.
