Beyond excited to get mine which should be shipped mid may. I would like to see a couple of things. 1. A bios video on how to change vram and the ram speed to get the best performance from the device. 2. Testing games like Returnal with how/if VRR makes these types of AAA games play better/smoother. Thanks for the videos we need all we can get on lesser known/owned devices like the GPD Win Mini. Looking forward to the next one 👍🏻
I am the opposite of you, i prefer the smallest 7" handheld possible. 6" screen is too small for comfort, i find 7 to be the best size for these devices. Only issue is all of the 7" screen handhelds are too large, except the mini. It folds up extremely small and takes up virtually no space in a small pocket in a back pack or sling bag. Only thing i personally would change is making the keyboard even smaller and off setting the controls to make them more comfortable. Either way i love my 7840u mini. I wont upgrade to the new one as i dont have a money tree as you seem to have to buy all the handhelds lol. I will wait until a real cpu upgrade is available from amd.
@@eiceys4612 I use the grips so it's very comfortable. Also I like the fact as a clamshell the screen is higher up. You can rest the device on your chest as you're laying down and the screen is higher up. For my steam deck and ally I used to prop them on a small pillow in my chest to elevate them. But they are very different units so decide what you're looking for first
Which device is the easiest on your neck? My neck hurts looking down at these handhelds. I'm thinking the higher screen on this device would alleviate some of that fatigue.
This one is definitely one of the best for that. Because you can hold it at the most comfortable angle and then tilt the screen to the most optimal viewing angle it’s much easier on your neck a wrist
Qualcomm will need at least 5 years for software and games to be optimized for the Snapdragon X Elite series. 5 years from now I hope there will be Linux or Windows Handheld Gaming powered by Snapdragon X Elite Series.
@@nightpavell not sure what’s going on there, but mine is definitely metal. I just took it out and scratched off the black coating and it is fully metal.
This looks really great, the only thing that is weird to me is the face buttons being to the LEFT of the joystick, which will absolutely take getting used to
It’s not as weird as you would think when actually using it. I think it’s in a good spot based on the size and shape of the device. The joystick on the outside feels more comfortable imo on this device.
would you be able to compare lossless scaling frame generation between the 2023 and 2024 models of the Mini? I feel like the requirement of locking frame rate for frame gen would make VRR pretty much useless since you want a stable frame rate for it to work optimally. I'm curious to see if there are any benefits to having a VRR display in this use case.
The thing about handheld is not just the specs but the product software maintenance. Its hard to trust these Chinese companies to roll out sufficient software updates to improve it. I have even seen stuttering gameplay footages of amd chips in one of those Chinese handheld.
The performance of AMD handhelds is improved by driver updates which come directly from AMD. The manufacturer has nothing to do with that. *Which handheld did you see have stuttering?* Even the ROG ally and Legion Go get improvements from AMD updates.
a side by side comparison between the 2023 and 2024 displays would be cool. Maybe have the same game running on both displays to see how VRR affects gameplay
That's a great idea. I'm thinking of ways to capture that on video because it's hard for the camera to see VRR as the frame rate is constant in the recording. 🤔
@@FS-zt6tmI can say from experience that VRR is definitely helpful in some cases where FPS fluctuates a lot, but my goal is always to use settings that keep the fps pretty consistent. I honestly don’t think it’s a reason to get one device over the other. That’s why I said I was more excited about the native landscape screen than the VRR. As you know my favourite handheld is the Ayaneo KUN and that’s only 60hz with no VRR and I don’t ever miss VRR or 120hz because if I’m getting a locked 60 fps then I’m having a good time. Gamers love to get excited over more fps, but are you actually having a bad experience at 60fps on a handheld? VRR IS NOT a gimmick, but it’s also not the end all be all.
@@BarelyAverageDude thanks for that. I actually went with the 2023 Win Mini and have been debating on whether VRR would be worth the upgrade. I also play at steady frame rates so I don't think VRR would benefit me. I also use an oculink eGPU so the decision should be a lot easier for me
Bro have you done the Bios update for the Winmini 8840u to get 28w? I tried updating it but could not . Thank goodness I didnt brick my system. I hope someone makes a video tutorial how to safely do it. Thanks

How comfortable is it to hold it over the other handled

Yessai killa. GPD Win 3 was my first mini handheld, such a quality device. New one looks clean.
GPD WIN 3 is what I have too. I can still play most old games just fine. They've come a long way in performance though. GPD makes good stuff.

If the efficiency is there as they claim it should be a great future. 👍🏾
Ah money and time....wish I had it.
About $720 if purchased in China, I'm gonna ask my friend to bring me one

Intersting to see difference in internals of 2023 and 2034 versions!
They’re pretty much the same. I opened them up for SSD upgrades.
@BarelyAverageDude is SSD radiator made from copper? One guy locally received win mini 2024 with plastic ssd radiator😅

Switch and ps3 emulators running well?
Battery life with emulators?
Yeah, pretty much the same as the 2023 Win Mini

I’m not sure how I would capture the difference with VRR and no VRR because it’s hard to see on video. 🤔🤷🏽♂️
Hey men what’s your hand measurement? All consoles you review make them look tiny 😂 i have a SD and it’s huge console for my hands.

Do compare the performance head to head vs the 7840U version at the same TDP.
