Thanks Luke for another Great Episode, and it’s the first Hong Kong Episode in the series since 2018! Thanks for the beautiful shooting and documentary. I don’t mind paying more for the Great Fresh Quality Food and the Great Ambience, the cleanliness and the great fresh selection! All Great Restaurants and Location selections, Luke! Thanks very much, I feel happy that you are taking little bit of advice on board. Take good care, enjoy yourselves and thanks for adding a bit of authentic Hong Kong local culture touch in between. Chrissie xx
Sai Kung is super pricey because the target customers are all tourists who can afford the inflated seafood price. Delicious and wide selection, but you pay for it. If you want the same thing, look up eateries located inside wet markets in Kowloon side of Hong Kong, same selection but half the price. Dirtier and grungier though, only locals go. Tourists would be scared.
I don’t think so. Sometimes places are dirty but not the food. If many people eating there especially you already said there is a markets not restaurants dirty can’t avoid right . But I can say the foods are amazing in Kowloon side also.
The dingier and dirtier the market the better the food. While I would pay the inflated price for convenience because I can I would definitely hit as many night markets as possible too. Because hell yes.
Steamed scallops with vermicelli is also my number one, I like to eat it the most! In fact, those seafood can be eaten in Taiwan, and the price is cheaper! As for the light show, I think it is more exciting to watch it on the shore than on a boat. Next time you can watch it in Victoria Harbor! Thanks a lot for sharing, happy travels! 👍🥰🙏
Many moons ago, whenever I ever traveled to HK, I always ate in the back streets of Tsim Sha Tsui - my go to was Beef Tendon Noodle soup. Great seafood on Lantau island as well, at very affordable prices. I avoided Tourist places like Jumbo. Did eat numerous times at The Peak - 6 to 8 different cuisines in one resto. Plus great photo opps. Cheers from Port Credit ON.
HKD 971 for the seafood. That's a bit expensive. But that is a tourist location and that is a famous tourist restaurant, and that is tourist price. Locals would go the urban restaurants and pay about $500 for that. In this location, I would walk further into that street where several smaller restaurants there can serve the foods with lower price.
Hi Luke. Fam from HK here. That dishes worth way too much. Sai kung is notorious for its pricey seafood. You can get some authentic ones else where. Anyway glad that you like the food,🤤
Hong Kong sure has changed since I was there in 1966, back then both sides of the street were being used by food carts. What great food I would walk along see something that looked good to eat, sit at a little table and chair that was provided and chow down. I ate at those little spots for 9 days never got sick once. Great food YUMMY.😋😁😀
To purchase the seafood from the fisherman in Sai Kung and bring it to the restaurant is much cheaper than ordering from them. I like the beef briskett and the thick egg noodles. And I like to get on Aqua Luna when I get my chance to get home next year.
welcome back to hk Luke. it's well-known that eating seafood in saigon should pay a premium. even for locals. but tourists would be higher. you may simply find a chinese restaurant which has their own tanks for seafood. their seafood dishes only cost probably half price with same quality. no need to go to saigon.
Thanks for the video! Headed for HK in Nov and was just looking for an amazing seafood place (aside from roast goose and HK cafe)! This will be it even with tourists price! YOLO!
Damn, I thought foods in China supposed to be cheap like Taiwan, but $125 for two scallops, two mantis shrimps, and a veggie plate is way too expensive.
Nope, Hong Kong is one of the worst value food cities in the world imo. You pay a premium there for average quality. If you just stick to street food and research some cheap places you can still have fun at a reasonable price, but overall the value is not there And you basically need to rinse your own cups, plates utensils before eating - that's what the locals do
No one needs to wash their dishes when they go out for food in Hong Kong. All you need to do is to flush them, just in case the dishes have been washed with too much of detergent, that´s it! ♥
Those shrimps are really amazing and food is really cheap in HK. HK vibe is really nice, however real estate in HK is the most expensive in the world.Aqualuna and Skyline, kinda majestic.Great video guys
Another unsugar-coated , great review ! @11:54 " . . . they do you give you oranges . . . " LOL hopefully there's an opportunity to collab with #HumidwithaChanceofFishballsTours
Dishes are washed but it's almost traditional to rinse your dish, cups, and chopsticks in a bowl of hot water or tea. Most HKers enjoy drinking hot tea or just plain hot water. It may come from the days when HK imported, desalinated, and treated its water supplies. Visited as a kid back in the 70s and 80s, so water from the tap had to be boiled before consumption, and there was no such thing as ice at restaurants. Oranges has always been a traditional complimentary dessert at restaurants. Much like fortune cookies are given out these days at Chinese restaurants in the US. Many don't have washing machines and dryers in their homes due to costs and taking up precious space. That's why many hang their clothes where ever they can. Even in Japan, washing machines are available in many homes but no dryers. You have the warm sun, why not use it?
If u prefer more economic version meal, try seafood restaurants in Lei Yue Mun. My reason is simple: more restaurants means higher competitiveness , less tourists than Sai Kung means they cant request high prices if want to survive😂
Those little restaurants must do a crazy turnover each day in order to pay for their lease, cost, etc., I'm sure they all work so so hard for not much... Loved the fish 'markets' - so cool. thanks, Luke - Love your uploads on Sundays...a nice way to end the week with your adventures!
I assure you these restaurants are earning much more than most of the people over the world😂 Seafood restaurants in Sai Kung, Hong Kong are pretty infamous for charging people way more expensive than usual. One single steamed scallops could charge more than HK$150 (which is almost 20USD).
@@LukeMartin you definitely got scammed unfortunately. Sai Kung is known to be a huge tourist trap. Yes they do have good seafood but really need to do homework on pricing how it works there.
The seafood looks AMAZING! But I wondered what veggies were that? To me it looked like broccoli stems but with leaves instead of florets 😋 I love green vibrant vegs loaded with garlic MMMMMMM ❤️ Are you guys planning trips to Europe in the future? I’d love to give you some tips of beautiful hidden gems across Belgium 🇧🇪 lots of love x
Many people in HK blame the food provided by Kau Kee and restaurants in Sai Kung expensive and so-so. Most of their consumers are tourists(mainly from Mainland China) instead of local residents. As a Hongkonger, I think most oridinary restaurants can satisfy my stomach.
@haha4581 Actually, seafood sold in Sai Kung and other placers comes from the same wholesalers, but the price of seafood in Sai Kung is expensive and not reasonable.
There’s no shame eating with your hands. Actually it makes everything taste better 😂😂😂😂😂. Also the restaurants started providing hot water for you to rinse dishes and utensils during the SARS in 2003.
Hands down, the most amazing city in the world.

Scared? What a bizarre comment.

Not like that, more like a Singapore Hawker Centre with A/C❄️🥶

Im living for 2 years in Sai Kung❤ and I love this place so much
Omg, I'm salivating at all the seafood and the beef brisket. It's almost 11pm here in England 😋

How does this work? You order what you want from the tank and then ask them to cook it for you? Or can you just order from the menu?
If u prefer more economic version meal, try seafood restaurants in Lei Yue Mun.

You are totally wrong. I live near Lei Yue Mun and had seafood dinner at there only once. More expensive than Sai Kung!
