      Glad to inspire! SCI is definitely a tough journey and a lot of work to basically relearn simple things. Sending all the love and strength to for your son. Tell him to keep watching for some more insight on how I do things. Also feel free to ask if you have any questions about how to do certain things I’m planning on making more videos to help out the community move through our everyday the barriers establish with the injury. So feel free to shoot… Best of luck on your son’s and your journey💙✌🏻

    I have found if I remove the blanket and use a tight-fitting fitted sheet. The pants will glide on easier. good job!

      Thank you that’s how I used to do it. But I’ve become better with practising over the years that now I just do it on the covers. Thank you for your tips!

    You're really flexible! I'm so not. I'm c3-4 incomplete and very stiff. I spasm so much that even if I had your arm movement it wouldn't be easy. You're a rockstar olivia!

      Thank you! I’m very lucky with my lack of crazy spasms and nerve pain. I’m always very grateful for that!🙏🏻🙂 I have other friends that are struggling big time with those barriers.

      Of course, I’m always happy to help. 😊
      There are lots of ways to minimize spasm. I’ve heard CBD and cannabis can help and it’s a more natural ways to go about it, rather than putting crazy meds into your system. I guess what a lot of healthcare professionals, at least in Canada, fail to tell you is that a lot of anti-spasm medication, as well as, nerve pain meds, inhibits neural connection to form, so if anything is reconnecting it prevents it from doing so, especially early on in the injury. Additionally some of those medication‘s can be compromising to your skin, which is an issue that we have to be super cautious with having an SCI. So it’s good to do some thorough research on the side effects a medication has when you have to take it for something to minimize other SCI bound symptoms.

    Do you find different fabrics work better than others?

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t noticed too much of a difference in terms of the fabric, I think it’s more about the proper elasticity of the waistband and how loose the pants are.
      Also pants that are a little bit looser, with a bit more give in the fabric, for example jeans that don’t have a lot of give versus ones that are more stretchy. The stretchy one will be easier. If you’re just starting out having a pair of looser pants with a little bit more give will be helpful. So some thing like sweatpants or similar to pyjama pants would be a good way to start. I actually started with harem pants which were nice and loose, Nice and light for the summer, and a little bit nicer than sweatpants. I also used to have a leg bag so they were perfect for covering that up.🥰

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think with those pants that I’m using about 2 years post injury. It’s hard to say, because you’re learning how to use your new body when you get injured. The key is to pick the right pair of pants. Something that’s loose in the legs and have an elastic band at the top. Things like sweatpants are great to first start trying with or the pair pants that I have in this video. They’re a smoother material making it easier to transfer because they slide better and dont ride down when you transfer. I also would try it for a while every day. At first needed some help for the upper part to go around my bum and up to my hips and then eventually was able to do it by myself, but it took some time. Practice and a lot of frustration will make it perfect ha ha!
      Then moved from having looser pants to leggings and jeans, but it’s been a journey.
      Best of luck! Let me know if I can help in any other way or if there’s something that you’re struggling with I can maybe make a video about it.

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Kind of… I can feel touch but I wouldn’t be able to feel how much pressure you putting on. So if I am hitting a wall, I will feel that I’e hit something, but I wouldn’t know how hard I’ve hit it. My touch sensation is also different in different areas of the body. Some areas are more sensitive than others. But I don’t feel pain or temperature below my shoulders or so. Hope that makes sense?

  • @martinball54
    @martinball54 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You'd find that far easier if you pulled the pants fully over your feet first. A lot of wasted effort. From a fellow quad.

    • @QuadLife101
      @QuadLife101  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the advice! I have tried doing that in the past, but my legs end up bending at the knee while my heels are dragging under the pants when I’m trying to pull them up. So this is the way that works the best for me. 😉
