I would like to add something I think. Tonality. I think it is separate from the two. There is a big difference between the two of you. Your passing tones are really specific to each of you. You mentioned joe and Vai. The way they play around the tonic and the notes they lean on create a tonality. I really think this separates us all fundamentally. The reason I play so atonal is I took lessons from two guys that played beautifully! I could never never get close so I chose the “ugly” notes and that is my tonality. You both have a distinct sound and tone. But you also have a tonality that is all your own! My 2 cents

100% agree...sound is mainly equipment, tone is absolutely unique to the individual player....good stuff gentlemen 🎼
