    Stealth, one thing, destroyers are probably more deadly when they can maneuver and bring all of their guns to bear, not when they are solid stationary targets.

    Dude trust me the DDs are A LOT more dangerous on the open ocean.
    This is how you WANT to take them on if you can.
    On the ocean its a big angry artillery battery.
    And you can realistically only kill them with torps. or theoretically the anti tank gun you can mount on the front, but you need a loooot of ammo on that.

    Keep in mind: The Pearl Harbor attack lasted 90 minutes, and of the 50 warships present, I only know of 3 that launched during the fight. Of that, the DD Monaghan was actually ready to go on patrol duty (given their patrol orders 2 minutes before the attack began), and still took 30 minutes to leave the pier. That's 25 minutes after the captain ordered the chief engineer to "get up steam on all boilers for emergency sortie". The other 2 ships to launch did so without the majority of their officers; including the BB Nevada, which launched after 40 minutes under the command of it's damage control officer, and the DD Aylwin, which took 30 minutes to launch and had a grand total of 4 ensigns as officers on board.
    While I agree it would be much better for game mechanics to have moored ships launch during a surprise base raid, what you are seeing is more-or-less what would actually happen.

  • @sigamer216

    The devs should make it so that the ships at the base start moving when you've been spotted.

    • @ChampionsGearhead
      @ChampionsGearhead ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Realistically the ships at the base would WANT to start moving when you are spotted, but its not that likely that they can do it immediately, or that they have reduced capacity in some manner:
      They might be in the middle of refuelling, rearming or resupplying with half the crew forming a bucket brigade hauling shells from ashore. They might have an engine causualty they are working on repairing so they can only do half speed (or worse they have had to extinguish the boilers to do the repair), or a turret is stuck, or a shell hoist is broken.
      TLDR: Small chance they can't move, Small chance they can move immediately, Bigger chance they can move after a while, If they can move, some chance they have reduced capacity in some way.

Also in Assaults if an allied resupply ship is present you can get ammo, health repairs, torps and depth charges from them. The best way to make money early game is to sink subs with depth charges. after that tankers. they are harder but worth more. a destroyer is worth about 8k

    This is the easiest way to attack heavy defenses. Attack big ships at range with torps, get the call-ins with bombs after you get the kill points, then gun runs back and forth across with a squadron.

  • @jaywerner8415
    @jaywerner8415 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Bear in mind Ships in port tend to sit still and NEVER MOVE even after the base is alerted to your presence (something that REALLY should change if at all possible.) Fighting a DD in port is alot easier then fighting a DD at Sea.
    Also that just a Fubuki, their are also Akisuki class DDs as well. One thing i will say is you DO NOT want to ever get Close to a DD or a Coastal Tanker, they have ALOT of 25mm MGs waiting for you if you get too close.

    • @dphalanx7465
      @dphalanx7465 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If a DD or Freighter/Tanker is "at rest," in harbor, it's not going anywhere. It takes too long (in terms of the game's time scale) to fire the boilers and get up steam for movement. If you are alongside a dock, you can just cut/slip ropes, but if you have to "up anchor," that's more time added on.
      OTOH, the Small Craft that you catch at dock (patrol/torepedo/river boats) should be able to get under way with little or no delay. Like you said, something the Devs need to add in.

  • @Flamespotz
    @Flamespotz ปีที่แล้ว +1

    16 hours later in 2 days, yes i work, and yes i did not sleep, I conquered the map(i did get the victory condition way before then, just wanted to do a total conquer). Yeah you want to destroy DDs at docks since i had to go against 6 DDs at a time while they were in port 5 seperate times in my playthrough and its the only way to take them out. Attack port, rearm repeat before they leave(icknow its cheesy but I was just trying to finish the game). Its extremely hard to go against 2 DDs in open water, 1 is still easy enough if you can react well. Mk 8 really to me are the best since the homing torpedos just didnt do enough damage(at least in port attacks). Also dont ever try to ram ships, friendly(on accident) or enemy because your ship can flip. There is no way to recover and you will lose your ship and crew. Have fun with the game, i sure did, thanks for showing me it!

    Seen somebody else use the mortar on the bow, pretty effective weapon, with the added bonus that you can fire smoke shells in front of the destroyers to obscure your approach. Works well if they are stationary.

  • @jaywerner8415
    @jaywerner8415 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The Rockets are effective at dealing with enemy small/medium craft, But for shore bombardment you want weapons on the Front of the boat. Edit: that boat is a Tender, thats the ship you can resupply from. I guess its the equivalent of Japanese coastal tanker.

  • @jonathancathey2334
    @jonathancathey2334 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Ships during WW2, mostly were powered by boilers. If a ship was in port. The boilers might be shut down, depending on how long the ship would be in port. If the boilers were shut down. Then that ship would be dead in the water, until the crew get the boilers up and running again. So any ship that is in port. Would be a sitting duck at the beginning of any raid. Now the longer the raid, the more likely a patrol boat or a ship is to get going.

    • @unclefox5022
      @unclefox5022 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was wondering if that could be an explanation, but I dont know if that works for the Japanese torpedo boats, as I believe they ran on on normal diesel engines. Though I could be wrong.

    • @jonathancathey2334
      @jonathancathey2334 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unclefox5022 my understanding of like patrol boats. Those had regular diesel engines. So if you had a bunch of patrol boats at the dock. It would be most likely those patrol boats could get running.
      Now U.S. Navy P.T. Boats in WW2 had high end racing engines in them. Which means those boats needed special fuel to run correctly.
      Which is one of the reasons why U.S. Navy P.T. boats were able to move as fast as they could.
      During the battle of the Philippines in late 1941 to 1942. There was a squadron of U.S. Navy P.T. boats. Eventually some of the boats were damaged by combat. Some had parts wear out, at least one ran a ground. But the real problem was their fuel supply. Eventually the bases where the P.T. boats could call home. Either got overrun or abandoned as the Japanese took control of the Philippines. The P.T. boat crews had to figure out different fuel to run in their high end racing engines. Which greatly reduced these boats performance.
      One P.T boat was used to help get General Douglas MacArthur off the Philippines.
      And at least one P.T. boat braved the open ocean, and made it from the Philippines to Australia. Super dangerous in the best of times. Now it's war time. In an 81 foot wooden boat. Trying to make sure your engines don't quit, because of the wrong fuel type. Plus the Japanese are absolutely running the Pacific ocean.

    Theres a lot of info on the minimap, for identifying targets and your targetting of rockets and such ultility weapons.
    Also, I'd use radar whenever not in base range to scout out easy rp from convoys
    Also also, since base assaults take some time, I guess it's best to take out a bunch of small targets first and then engage the destroyers after restocking
    Either way, loving both of the current series runnign on the channel!

    I've been loving this game. Once you get the fancy acoustically guided tops, DDs turn into profitable little piñatas. I usually fight them in port or sometimes in open waters. You can sneak around their task force, get close enough for a salvo of 4 or so torpedos and then scram before they start shooting.

  • @Zanfib32

    The MK 21 acoustic guided torpedoes seem to be the best torpedoes in the game.
    When fighting moving destroyers, it is very hard to hit them with unguided torpedoes at long range and getting close is suicide unless you use the mortar to create a smokescreen (and is still really dangerous even then).
    The MK 21 can hit destroyers from a safe distance and has enough firepower to sink them reliably.
    At the moment I'm not really sure what the use case is for the other acoustic torps. Their warheads seem to small to be worth bothering with.

    I have sank 2 destroyers moored in port right next to each other with one lucky Mk8 by coming at them from the aft. They were very close to shore and for some reason I only got credit for one but RP for both. Pretty sure being so close to shore it couldn't actually sink but it was grounded. Subsequently I had 2 different homing torpedoes (one big and one little one) just start circling when I launched them at a moored DD.
    I am also very ambivalent about the rockets. I think one time I took out 3 or 4 closely moored PT boats, other than that no real luck with it even 4 rockets at a time at immobile shore defenses.

    Stealth, a few comments about this and past videos which may not apply.
    1. you've probably overprioritized getting a main gun. they are a huge resource sink, and have inferior damage per magazine compared to just having machine guns. Granted, I have not used main guns while playing the game, but I have found few things that can damage you fast enough that engagement time is a concern, limited to destroyers, aircraft, and medium batteries on land (which may be the largest they get) and which are not easily countered by your 'main' gun, which is essentially AA. Damage per magazine, not damage per minute, seems to be your major concern.
    2. the Intel tab is not accurate. you can get multiple destroyers pop up out of nowhere and start attacking one of your friendly bases and only show up on the screen after you engage them, and possibly sink them. You must now always be prepared to face destroyers, on top of everything else.
    3. friendly bases, once the attack starts, are continually besieged until you go and wipe out the opposing force. this may not be correct, but from one of the notifications I read, I believe attacks are launched from a hostile base that is continually resupplied via a permanently stationed cargo vessel/sub. raiding the base just to destroy any possible cargo ships/subs docked may just stop enemy reinforcements from flowing in.

    if they modelled the fubukis right, they would have 3 twin 127mm gun turrets, and i heard you mentioning on previous videos about some having 100mm guns, that'd be the akizuki class which i'd argue is far more dangerous against you with its 4 twin 100mm gun turrets, its a destroyer specialized for anti air warfare so if the devs modelled it properly and if it is in game that'd have a more sizeable compliment of autocannons compared to the fubukis...
    also nice touch that the shirayuki, hatsuyuki and akebono are indeed labelled a fubuki class, have seen one too many games seeing certain destroyer types with names originating from other destroyer classes.... although its lacking a 127mm turret on the back end thats supposed to superfire over the aft turret....
