You didn't lose a crewman killed, he was just thrown overboard. And immediately after that, a blue dot appeared on the radar. Maybe he could have been saved during the mission. But anyway, he was rescued after the mission.
The Kamchatka knew well what it saw... as it fired enough shells to embarrass a platoon and not hit anything... I mean at least it wasn't fishing trawlers
@@TheHeavenlyGoddess can you imagine being assigned to that ship? I mean just cannot believe every member of that ship was useless I am sure there were good honest sailors on that ship
The thing about small boats is that there is rarely any space for armor. Even small arms messed up PT boats and crews regularly. That is one reason most PT fights took place in the dark. At the start of WWII, the Imperial Japanese Navy had some of the best night fighters in the world. The Battle of Savo Island was a massive wake up call. The US Navy learned how to do it the hard way but they DID learn. Most historical PT attacks in the Pacific were 'wait for dark, creep close, fire a salvo and then run like hell!' They could not take the hits, but OMG could they dish them out. No smoke generators on these? Hmmm. Smoke was a literal lifesaver after the attack. Vanish in a cloud of dark messy smoke to fight another night.
The management options remind me a lot of bomber crew and similar, but the campaign mechanic looks much more developped, which is very nice. I wouldn't mind seeing more of this on your channel!
@@ClhCgu45 At a quick cursory glance its two different developers. Runner Duck, under publisher Curve Digital, were the ones who made the various crew games, such as Bomber Crew, Space Crew, and the upcoming Badlands Crew. Boat Crew was developed under Tabbing Tabby with the new, modern MicroProse as Publisher. Mind you, I don't know if the people behind Runner Duck are also the people behind Tabbing Tabby, just that the two developer companies have different names. While Boat Crew does share a lot of similarities to the Crew series, namely the target tagging and crew management and command systems, I find that it refined those mechanics into something more fluid and enjoyable in the background as a part of the active action gameplay.
PT boats had some of the toughest men with the heaviest balls in the Navy. Mothafuckin' John Fitzgerald Kennedy was on a PT boat and was one of the first boats to strategically relocate a fucking cannon on to one of those goddamn speedboats. Absolute chads.
Looks interesting! Definitely more wanted! It seems to have quite a balance between too much micromanagement and not enough to do and inability to get your crew and boat to do what you want. I like that you are the small guy and cannot simply curb stomp even a single small coastal vessel. But the PTs have stingers and they hit hard, if they get to sting --- you are not without teeth. Though a bit of an egg shell. The PTs and the brown water navy have a lot of ... "fun" stuff going on, not a lot of huge headlines and battles, but 10,000 paper cuts kill you just as dead. Twice when you are going where no roads or trains can ever be ...
I've always said that PT boats don't get nearly enough recognition among history fans and in video games as they deserve so it's good to see this game about. It's also nice to see they made it not as micro managing as bomber crew because that was really the killer for me ontop of the difficulty later on for just ONE bomber... I'll definitely be getting this game when I can, thank you.
It does look very interesting... I was thinking it was the PT boat version of Bomber Crew, until you said it was NOT the same developer. I think a few more episodes of this would be very nice.
It's great to see PT boats get some love again! They were an important part of the war in the Pacific and a lot of them were sold to (going off memory - I know I could Google it but that's cheating) I believe the Philippines and many were sadly burnt after the war. There are some depressing photos of many of them being burnt - conserving them wasn't really important back then, I guess - same with B-17's and many other vehicles of war. Would love to have a PT boat on my nearby lake -- Bofors included.
The British versions, Motor Torpedo Boats and Motor Gunboats (by the end of the war they would ALL be termed MGB's) were just as important in the European Theatre, but are generally ignored because not American.... In fact the major reason I will NOT be picking the game up is because it specifically ONLY looks at US PT boats while ignoring the other small, fast boats that saw action all around the world....
@@alganhar1 Well, this is the Pacific theater - I don't know how well those would fit in. Also, this game is at least in part inspired by Bomber Crew which featured a Lancaster, so I don't think your complaint about games only covering American designs holds water.
Brooo this game looks so cool. I don't know if it's already in or not, but I'd love to see more boat modifications, and different boats you can choose from as well.
4:23 JFK's PT-109 famously had an AT gun strapped on. 5:26 Not cobbled together, the M45 AA mount was used by the M16 GMC and was used into the Vietnam war.
Thanks to this video i will actually buy the game. Wasnt sure about the "strategic" gameplay part, because the demo doesnt have that. Your video showed me whats relevant, thank you!
To the tune of Tally Hall's _Banana Man_ Do you see torpedo boats Sailing over here to sink our floats Here they come with some for me Freshly made in the boat factory
Depth charges could be useful if you have a fast boat and want to cross in front of enemy ships. I think that if you do that then they kind of work like sea mines but you might have to test how close you have to be with them and the fuse timing.
I think you are supposed to get within rifle distance of the enemy destroyer before firing your torpedoes. At least that's how british PT skippers did it
My question is, is stealing unsecured army equipment and weaponry a mechanic in the game? It would be a terrific way to add some historic accuracy. PT crews were known to steal just about anything they could get their hands on if it made their jobs easier.
