Have always loved this song. Skylark is a great Canadian group from the 70's. They were based in my hometown of Vancouver B.C. This is the version of the song I remember listening to when I was young. This was their biggest hit.
Oh my goodness! I’m so glad yall got to this song. I’m 55 years old and was born in the late 60’s to parents barely 18 and 20 who loved music and dancing so my entire life has music throughout and this song was always so beautiful to me. Started learning guitar three years ago and immediately tried to play this..and failed lol. It has some more advanced chords that I was months away from mastering but I kept at it and I can do it now! It’s such a sweet and simple song and his voice is so pure! Love you two! Much love from Louisiana USA! By the way..I love to hear yall talk! Such cool accents. I’ll trade my obvious southern accent for yalls any day! Yall have great taste in music and very thoughtful and I introspective reactions to what you both hear! I love it! Really! Keep it up! Be happy and well!
i've always loved this song from my childhood. the line, "how she's always paying for a debt she never owes", carries the weight of expression of the emotional and physical exhaustion his lady endures. it is the crux of the song and leads to the release musically and viscerally of the next line. this is the heart of this gorgeous song ❤ thank you for covering this gem!
This song hits me SO HARD. "Sleep's the only freedom that she knows." 😭 To be loved in that way when going through such times...that would be a blessing indeed!
A great song from my youth, it was often played on CHOM FM radio Montreal. So nice to hear these songs get pay around the world 50 years on to a new audience. Great reaction.
My wife died last year after battling her illness for 42 years. I played this song at her funeral because she suffered for all those years and like the song says she was paying for a debt she never owed. R.I.P my love I will see you soon.
It is such a testament to the quality of the music of those times that so many such AMAZING, beautiful songs were done by bands & artists that most people hardly heard of before or since. Incredible talent was EVERYWHERE in the 70s.
Another one of my favorite songs, but thank you for giving us the backstory. I knew about the longevity of the band, but not about the song's origin, and that last part about her falling asleep in the shower room with her bathrobe on was sweet and amazing.
This song is so Beautiful and so Timeless ! I was 10 years old when this came out , Now I'm in my early 60s ! It never gets old !
Loved it, great choice
This song is beautiful, so smooth I love it!

I think this was produced by David Foster.

Beautiful ever green song. I always like the last line: "She's a free... The most precious one should be in this world.

One of my favorites! Thanks for reacting to it.
I have always loved this song, but never knew the name, or who sung it!
Love this song. It didn't hurt having David Foster in the band, to develop the instrumentation to go along with the lyrics.
David Foster is an amazing writer/keyboardist/producer to this day. He's gone on to do some amazing music. 🙂
Another record l bought. Their only big hit❤❤❤ Love it. 🇨🇦
I have the 45 of this myself!

Okay, now I know the song. At first I thought it was the horse song Wildfire. Oldie but goodie Great pick .😊 Nice love song.
..always paying a debt she doesn't owe...that's the killer line
I BEG YOU to please listen to "The New Birth" version. It's off the charts. It's so soulful. You'll love it.
Never heard this 😮 I say light the fire place turn off the lights and get your girl a bottle of wine and listen to this you’ll most likely get lucky 😂

This song could have been composed for GARY PUCKETT AND THE UNION GAP... and sung by Gary Puckett, DONNY GERRARD's voice is so similar. Thanks.
