Depends in how often you wash your hair but, 3 to 7 days. 7th Day is your wash day. You can also use the gel as a "pre-poo", add it to your conditioner or use as a mask.
My hair hasn't gotten thicker. I have been using it for 2 months. I like the definition and my hair condition has improved greatly. It's nice and soft with definition. I can't say that it did anything more. But it does a lot more than store bought products. I can't see that my hair has grown more than it would normally have done. My hair is less dry, generally less frizzy but that's all. I prefer this to anything else. It's no miracle cure for hair if you have major issues. My hair doesn't have major issues anyway. But I would advise anybody to try it. I am probably not the right person to give an honest report back cos my hair is very easy. It's very cheap and thats why I tried it. I bought very little and it made 2 batches. I made batch one and froze the okra after straining and boiled it again for another batch. I absolutely love it and the results are way better than products costing 10x more in South Africa. I paid R10 for the okra and it made about 1 X 750g mayonaise jar. I have no idea of the quantity of okra but I guess somewhere around 200g. I didn't make it very thick. More the consistency of a light leave-in conditioner than a hair mask. I used a normal metal sieve to strain so I couldn't really do it thicker. I reapply most days cos it's that affordable. But I would imagine I don't t need it that often, I am just extra. I added a few drops of preservative (Euxyl). The consistency changed slightly but not that much.

I advice to blend the okra add hot water but not boiling then strain,,, DO NOT BOIL.

It's a styling gel so you wouldn't rinse it out until wash day.
If you have 4 type/ kinky hair proper moisture and hydration should make your hair have a similar curl pattern.
