Quick FAQs on this Gel: #1: Store in fridge ONLY [Not shelf stable at all, unless you add a preservative] #2: This will last me 2 GOOD weeks before I start sniffing around to make sure it didn't go bad. 👀😆
Hey Jorja! You can get it from most grocery stores! Either in the baking aisle, or the "natural foods" section! Sometimes they're stored near the nuts Xo! ❤️
I feel like you could skip the straining step by boiling the flax seeds inside a pouch, almost creating a teabag but out of flaxseeds. Just a thought that came to mind! On another note I can't believe it's been years since your original video, I remember watching it and making my own gel. I found it absolutely mind blowing that you could make gel out of two ingredients lol. I still have those flax seeds from years ago, I should probably toss them!
For those who do not use metric: *2 cups water and 1/4 cup whole flax seeds* will give you the results shown here. I follow a similar technique (medium-high "boil" for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally) however, I find it much easier (less messy, too) to strain the still piping hot gel through a METAL sieve into a large container. The hot gel is so liquid-y that it falls easily through the mesh, no squeezing required. Also, I find that it yields a lot more this way than if I let it cool down and use pantyhose or cheesecloth to squeeze the gel through. (Thanks for the recipe! It really is foolproof!)

I love the ratio of the seeds and water, it comes out perfectly every time! The only thing I hate is after I made a fresh batch, I would see mold starting to form on it by the time it’s time for me to retwist my locs. I’ve discovered a solution that will fix that problem and I’m not sure why I’d never thought about it before. Last time I made a batch, after it was cooled, I added a few drops(maybe 5 drops) of tea tree oil along with my jojoba oil in my concoction. I did this two retwists ago, that’s over two months ago and my gel still smells fresh like I just made it and no mold! The tea tree oil naturally kills fungus, so it’s hard for it to form. I just wanted to share that and help anyone else that has thrown away a batch due to mold. Also I keep it refrigerated. You’ll thank me later! 😊

Hi Whitney, so I made your flaxseed gel and did my first ever wash n go using your homemade liquid black soap, banana deep condish, your oil mix, Shea mix and flaxseed! I wish I could show you pix. I've never seen my hair look this stunning!!! thank you so much for introducing me to my new way of keeping it natural! I'm so grateful, God bless you and your family and may He enrich you 😘😘
I’ve been making this gel for 8 or 9 years. It can be used on any hair type. The consistency depends of the seed to water ratio and boiling time I add essential oils. I like mine somewhat watery. It works well over my leave in and only flakes if I am heavy handed. I use a metal strainer because I’m not about that pantyhose thing. The downside is you have to refrigerate it and you have to use it up pretty quickly because it will go bad after about two weeks. I make only enough for four uses. Another con is You can’t really travel with it. There are commercial gels by Aunt Jackie, Jason, and on Etsy made with flaxseed but of course they have other stuff to preserve. FSG is by far the CHEAPEST gel you can use. So when people try to say being natural is expensive I say that is not a given because it depends on how you choose to spend your money. Also you can NOT use ground flaxseeds to make this. If you put the boiled flaxseeds in a Tupperware container with a lid you can store it. Then you can boil them again later using half as much water as the first time and yield more gel. With a bag of flaxseeds being about $4 like I said super cheap.
- on medium high heat put 600ml of water in a pot - add 1/4 cup whole flaxseeds into pot - mix flaxseeds around so all of them are submerged in the water - bring pot to a boil - when it starts foaming up like crazy give it a good stir - turn off heat once you see the gel like consistency - let the gel sit in the pot for 30 minutes to 1 hour - boom, you just made flaxseed gel

Did you know that you can just pour it through a strainer hot and it will give the exact same results and takes a couple of seconds?? Just make sure your metal strainer has holes small enough not to let the seeds go through. I add rosemary and lavender for hair growth and a little bit of vitamin e to help preserve it. You can also add aloe vera to help preserve it. It's also VERY good for your skin (your whole body).
Because of you I'm learning how to revive my hair and I find that your D.I.Y products are way better for my hair than store bought products. My hair has been the same length for 3 years because it keeps getting damaged and I have to keep cutting it off. Now I'm bench watching all your videos learning how to take care of my hair and also as of March 13th my birthday I said NO TO HEAT we have broken up. So please post more videos I can't get enough of you
Rachel Dover I feel you. it's been a year for me and I Jus now seeing growth. sad part is I still don't have a hair regimen. I make all my products like baking soda shampoo and act rinse. I also religiously do my Aleo Vera leaf scalp per pop and it I truly believe is why my hair is growing. she has a video talking about and doing the aleo and oil pre poo. my hair is confused when it comes to typing. it's not a 4, I wish.. lol when I wash it or it gets wet it waves up but when I put product in it, it could up tight as heck. I. Jus glad it's finally growing.
Pamela Mciver I glad you have your growth going. I did go out at buy aloe Vera juice and the plant. I actually have it in my hair now (I left it in overnight) I will shampoo in about 2hrs with my scalp massager. I also found out yesterday that I have low Iron deficiency and that's another reason for my hair problems, i have no clue my hair type I literally just stopped typing to look at some pics online I think I am a 3c/4a I have 2 different curl patterns in my hair. Don't think that your wavy hair isn't still the bomb cause it is just love it!
@@racheldover5733 Hi, Rachel I too have anemia severe. I had long shoulder length thick hair. Because my anemia I haven't been able to grow my hair back for years. Now I'm trying the diy remedies. Such as, aloe vera, flaxseed oil and etc...,
This looks so good. My beautiful great niece asked me to make her something so that her hair doesn't get frizzy. I'm going to try your recipe with a little slippery elm, fenugreek, horsetail and maybe some marshmallow root. You are still inspiring!
Thanks for the updated no fuss recipe! Just a small tip to make it even easier: After you get the desired consistency use a strainer to pour it into a heat proof container and let it cool..no squeezing or pantyhose needed. Then pour it into your plastic squeeze bottle. Thanks again!
Idk whether to call myself cheap or efficient but i didn't want to go out looking for pantyhose nor did i have a strainer so i used my hair bonnet as a strainer 😂 and of course i washed it and continued to use it as a bonnet 😭
oh my GOD!! I was just sitting here thinking of other materials i could use instead of a pantyhose and you just reminded me that I have a hair bonnet that i rarely use... thanks a lot
I know I’m late on this but out of desperation Ive come to the realization that I have to give up my Ecostyler Gel... that is all I’ve been using for the past 5 years that I’ve been natural and I’ve had chronic dry scalp and flaking and have not been able to pinpoint the issue. I’ve cut out all inflammatory foods from my diet for the past 6 months and have still not seen any improvement. Just yesterday I finally attempted the flax seed gel.... I don’t know if it came out exactly as it should have but I couldn’t believe the amount of hold it gave me, without the hard, dry cast that I’ve become accustomed to with Ecostyler Gel. I’m going to commit to 1 month of using only flaxseed gel and I’ll update with my results. I’m hoping for an improvement! Fingers crossed!
Good Day, So how were the results? I've been natural for 10 years and I never found a staple regime and my hair has not grown. It's healthy but never achieved length. So many of my natural friends have surpassed my results, yes I know everyone is different but it's a bit discouraging. But I know I will not perm my hair ever. Simply stuck.....
This is awesome stuff. I added some dried rosemary to the flax seed as I was cooking it, then added several drops of lavender essential oil to the gel once it was strained. They both have antiseptic & preservative qualities & are good for hair.
Facts! My hair started breaking like crazy after I stopped using it for a while, I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong. Once I start back using it, immediately my hair was more manageable, curls was popping. This gel is a "NEED" for my hair and not a choice. I bet I wont go without it for too long anymore.
I made this for my daughter and it works AMAZING! I've tried everything in stores to get this look and nothing worked! All the store products left her hair dry and damaged. This works like MAGIC! Thank you for making this video! She is now telling all her curly girl friends at school about your channel and flax seed gel! 💗💗💗
YES, YES, YES!!! Best ever gel. I have been making this gel from your first video. Made some on April 27th. My curls are holding for days ( week or more). Double strain twist /Bantu knot (leave for 2 days), loosen knots, leave hair tightly curled,. The curls will loosen and fall in place. I get lots of great comments.
Flaxseed gel is one of my fav products ever. My hair loves this stuff. I like it pretty thick though and I add marshmallow root for added slip. Works like a charm.
Hi! I have been so thankful for this stuff for about 3 years now. Will not be without it because my hair becomes frizzy and unmanageable. I DO take it with me on trips- long and short ones. I have put vitamin E in it and will try tea tree oil. But, even without those, my gel is okay for short trips (up to 2 full days) and for long trip, I just store it in any refrigerator that I can find. Hotel rooms, family, etc. True, that you do not want to go and leave it in the fridge. I actually leave myself notes so that I remember to retrieve it before we leave OR just put it back in my bag after using it the morning that I am leaving. This stuff is that good. I like that after it dries it does not flake! I can even reapply it for a few days and no flakes. I have smoothed it over styled hair for use as hairspray. Strong hold! Love this stuff.
I made this last night and used it today for the first time. I'm blown away. My hair looks fabulous. I put some rosemary essential oil in it because I read it can be used as a preservative. We'll see. But I'm really happy with hit. No more Devachan gel!! No more plastic waste! Thank you!
Okay, this recipe truly *IS* perfect! I had to make 1/2 the suggested amount (1&1/4 C water & 1/8 C flaxseed) because it was way more than I could use the 1st time. Gel is perfect every time tho! I strain mine **immediately** from the heat through a mesh strainer instead of letting it thicken first.
BRILLIANT!! Have been trying for decades to get the results this just gave me .Easy ,cheap and friendly to my hair head and most importantly the planet ( ORGANIC flaxseed is a must ) Thank you so much .
I made this today and after it cooled I added some lavender and rosemary oil. After cooling in the refrigerator for a couple of hours I decided to try it, I will never buy and type of curl definer again my hair is beautiful and so shiny.
@@angelitagatica I keep mine in the fridge for two weeks. I paid $3 for a pound of seeds even making a batch every two weeks a pound of seeds will last a very long time. Good luck.

Sooo I stopped making flax seed gel because of the amount of effort required, but I made it today using this method and OMG. IT. TOOK. LESS. THAN. A. MINUTE. Not kidding. One minute to squeeze the gel out! Glad I saw this video because I was about to start the hunt for the Flax seed eco styler!
Thank you so much, I made this last night and think I've found my holy grail. My hair always feels so dry with products i buy no matter what I use. With this my hair is shining and is soft! Thank you
I failed the first few times but then i tried soaking the seeds in water for a day before making this gel and it worked wonders!! Woww thanks for sharing this recipe
I am SO GLAD you did this... I made flax gel once before and not having it come out thick enough was the problem. Now I'm ready to give it a second try. You're amazing Whit.
I made the gel yesterday night and tried it this morning...Wow. I’ve only recently started really trying to get my ideal hair look, my leave-in conditioner in conjunction with the flax gel has worked! I’m really happy with the results! Thank you for the vid!
Thank you so much!!! This was really helpful. All store bought gels make my skin itch. Even my hands while I am putting it into my hair. You saved my life with this!! Thank you!!!
I'm so excited. Making this for the 1st time now. You were right that it didn't take long to boil. Had my back turned for 2 mins, maybe 3 & it was boiling over! Just pulled it off the burner to cool. Can't wait to use it. Ladies don't forget to get a container store it in. I didn't even think about but found & washed out a glass container from my recycling.
I've used Ecostyler in the past but it flakes and doesn't mix with many of my products. :/ I don't like the fact that it contains a bunch of chemicals anyways, so this is the perfect chance for me to finally try out flaxseed gel. I've watched a couple of vids for DIY hair creams/stylers so I think I'm gonna mix the gel with my curl enhancing smoothie and some shea butter. Can't wait to take out these crochet locs next month and try it out!
I made it today (different recipe) and couldnt get the gel through a strainer so the seeds were still in the gel. I wasnt even mad. I had some great fun xD
This is the ratio I've found works best for the most similar consistency: 1/4 cup flax seeds + 2 cups (480 ml) water I made this twice before and I was using 1/4 cup with 500 ml but it was turning too watery in my opinion... I hope this helps! 😉
How long did you boil it for? I just tried 2.5 cups of water and 1/4 cup flax, boiled for 23 mins and it didn't get thick. I'm gonna try your recommendation next time
Great! Comes out wonderful each time. My variation is to not use as many flaxseeds, nor boil it for too long. I get a thinner gel consistency that is pourable while still hot, through a strainer (no need for stockings to extract the gel) My hair is not very thick, so this consistency works for me, and quick too. .
I made this! The definition! The hold! The shine! And the softness! My ecostyler is going in the trashhhh. I added a tiny bit of avocado oil, rosemary oil, and lavender oil. My first batch sucked, too watery. Did absolutely nothing for my hair. So I used more seeds and a little less water. This time it was perfect! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Thank you this is so helpful because my hair is extremely thick and curly and doesn’t really show definition❤️ Also instead of throwing the linseeds out you can put it in the freezer and then reuse it and as ur making it can u can add a nice smelling oil
I m thrilled with this stuff ! my hair never looked any better ! ! ! instead of nylon i use a cotton sock i bought just for this purpose , it works perfectly and because afterwards it ends up really messy , i boil the sock with some dish detergent to wash away the gel , it's more environment friendly than a single use of nylon ! ... Thank you dear for the AMAZING Video now i Love my hair !!!
I just finished using this gel. OMG I AM IN LOVE. Came out perfectly and I am in love. Parts that I thought would be frizzy until I washed again. Not so. Best of all, I didn't have an allergic reaction. I and some left over.
Glad I found you, and happy to follow. That said, I did this and yay!!! it worked, then I added a twist. I put the seeds in a sock tied it and boiled it in the water. Low and behold, it worked, so I squeezed nothing and didn't have to strain it either. I put the remaining seeds in the fridge to use on my next batch. I'll let you know if it worked...
Gurrrrrrl! I came across your video 30 days ago. And this recipe has change my hair regiment for life. I have 4a type hair my curls are now super define and moisturized with no frizzy roots. Thank you, thank you, Thank you!
Thank you for this foolproof method! I have been sitting on my packet of flaxseed for so long!! Mine took a lil longer to make a mucus trail (probably because my seeds are old lol) but as soon as I took off the stove I poured the pot over into my Pyrex bowl that I had but a wig cap over and let it cool like that so I had minimal squeezing to do when it cooled...worked perfectly! I stirred in some drops of tea tree and JBCO before pouring into a jar and refrigerating. I tried it on a piece of hair and babyyyyyyy when I tell you DEFINITION!!
Love this!! I use a coffee press for extraction and afterwards I save the flaxseeds and make a hair mask 😊 Been using this for 2 weeks and I can already see/feel a difference in my hair. Thanks for sharing this ❤
This recipe works a treat. I used a fine strainer/sieve to put my flaxseeds in whilst boiling on the stove. To keep separate. Then at the end when it had cooled down i didnt have to use panty hose to strain it. Just put into ice cube trays and freeze till needed. I use two frozen cubes for long hair. Perfect. Thanks for your video. Great job?
So yeah it’s 4am and I can’t sleep and I stumbled upon this video so I’m up making it…..anyone else up we hours of the morning wanting to jump up and make this right now!? Satisfying video. Ty!
Thank you for posting the update. I watched your first video in 2010 or 2011 when I started getting into the curly girl method. I stopped making the gel after a few years because it takes so long, but I ran into a line of hair products that wrecked my hair so I am trying to get back into natural/DIY products again. I love that I don't need to burn my hands to make flax seed gel anymore! Haha!
So cool! Thanks to your channel I might become a juices and berries natural lol. I tried an aloe vera leaf for my scalp (for a pre-poo) and it worked wonders for my seborrhea dermatitis. I hope the effects last for a long time. Thanks for all the knowledge Whit!
Kimetrica Carter it's a hard condtion to have, but it can be managed. I just used the aloe leaf without the oils because I'm weary of oils now. The flaking has reduced a bit but I still have to stay on my same wash routine. I also use sheamoistures african black soap shampoo and that helps alot. Also v05's kiwi line conditioner is a great prepoo as well and is only a dollar! Let me know if any of this info helps you all. :)

About 600ml with 1/4 in a saucepan and boil until starts to show strings (stirring intermittently). Then remove from heat for 30-60min. Strain with nylon, cheesecloth, or whatever you can.

I had an epiphany that I might try this weekend. How about setting a strainer with the flaxseeds on top of the pot of boiling water, only lifting to stir. That way you won't even have to strain it after. Idk if it will work but that would be one less step in the process
Jus used ur technique and lemme tell u I was soooo nervous I'd mess it up but it came out perfectly thanks for this great video definitely subscribing!

Just make sure your metal strainer has holes small enough not to let the seeds go through. I add rosemary and lavender for hair growth and a little bit of vitamin e to help preserve it. You can also add aloe vera to help preserve it. It's also VERY good for your skin (your whole body).
Thanks for the tip! 😁
@Charlene Knightly, how do you use it on your body? Or are you just talking about the aloe vera?
@@lynnwilhoite6194 you can use both on the body.
Thanks
Does it smell funny though? I see you can use it as a leave-in but I'm afraid of the smell
Rachel Dover hey Rachel how are you?? remember me from school!!
@@racheldover5733 Hi, Rachel I too have anemia severe. I had long shoulder length thick hair. Because my anemia I haven't been able to grow my hair back for years. Now I'm trying the diy remedies. Such as, aloe vera, flaxseed oil and etc...,
7 yrs later... Any tips to combat/compensate for the anemia-related hair growth hindrance?
Watching you squeeze out the gel is so visually satisfying 😩😂
Lololol I thought it was just me
ToshPointFro
It feels satisfying too😭
This looks so good.
👏👏👏👏 sis you the real MVP lol out here sharing life hacks
oh my GOD!! I was just sitting here thinking of other materials i could use instead of a pantyhose and you just reminded me that I have a hair bonnet that i rarely use... thanks a lot
Finally a hack cause my pantyhose ripped 🙄
Satin hair bonnet... Right?😭
Yes! I was thinking how I was gonna do this without having to go to the store since I have flax seeds already
Fingers crossed!
thedirty30journey what happened?
Good Day,
So how were the results? I've been natural for 10 years and I never found a staple regime and my hair has not grown. It's healthy but never achieved length. So many of my natural friends have surpassed my results, yes I know everyone is different but it's a bit discouraging. But I know I will not perm my hair ever. Simply stuck.....
So how did it go? I hope you got to see some improvement in your health :)
Im here in 2020, hows your hair now?
I have the same issues and it's also about Vitamin and mineral deficiency. Specially vitamin D
Literally every hair gel from the store makes my head itch like crazy! This is great, thanks a lot!
same! I've been miserable for years... gonna try this and keep my fingers crossed!
Starr Monique where do you buy your marshmallow root?
They order it for me from Whole Foods.
Starr Monique thanks
Thanks for the tip I have marshmallow root. :)
Is the marshmallow root a powder or liquid? I was also thinking of adding horsetail to strengthen.
Skin popping ,Hair popping ,personality popping!!!! omg I ❤ her
This is a good ass, quality video. *sigh* We appreciate you Nap and the years of effort, researching and filming that you have done for us. ✊🏽💛
BRILLIANT!! Have been trying for decades to get the results this just gave me .Easy ,cheap and friendly to my hair head and most importantly the planet ( ORGANIC flaxseed is a must )
Thank you so much .
I made this today and after it cooled I added some lavender and rosemary oil. After cooling in the refrigerator for a couple of hours I decided to try it, I will never buy and type of curl definer again my hair is beautiful and so shiny.
Thank You . Question. How long will the gel keep? Does it need to be kept in the fridge?
@@angelitagatica I keep mine in the fridge for two weeks. I paid $3 for a pound of seeds even making a batch every two weeks a pound of seeds will last a very long time. Good luck.
Lavender and rosemary oil will act as a anti-bac agents, too.
@@milkpickle123 and how to use it after keeping it in fridge ? I mean shd it b thawed or heated?
@@kirannathani9123 after being in the refrigerator no prep is needed . During the summer heat the cool gel is extremely refreshing. A little peppermint oil to the mixture is also refreshing for the scalp as well.
I love how you are updating your videos especially since I've been following you from your first video.....You are the reason why I learned my hair and finally understand my hair journey When you started your videos I left perming 3 or 4 years and was clueless on how to care for it muchas gracias for everything you do....Love the update
"I don't think you can mess up this recipe"Me: *messes up the recipe*😅
Amandla Adams me too! I never got the mucus
I just tried this recipe and I didn't get the mucus the water keeps drying out😟 help please
Me too
Arisleyda Hernandez Did you put stove on medium high.
Amandla Adams i fucked up mines😭😭😭

*yesss love your diysss*
Naasir Void your channel is hilarious 😂
XoXo!! Hey Naasir!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️❤️
I am SO GLAD you did this...
I made flax gel once before and not having it come out thick enough was the problem. Now I'm ready to give it a second try.
You're amazing Whit.
Nayelle Valles hi! I’m trying to figure out how to make my gel come out thicker. Do you boil it longer ???
I made the gel yesterday night and tried it this morning...Wow. I’ve only recently started really trying to get my ideal hair look, my leave-in conditioner in conjunction with the flax gel has worked!
I’m really happy with the results! Thank you for the vid!
Flaxseed gel really is the best!
Diamonds Witt you sound like me adding and making conditions for my confused hair.. 😂
To be honest, I would probably spend more time playing with the gel than actually using it lol.
Tara Willo Exactly 😂😂😂
Lmao same
I made it today (different recipe) and couldnt get the gel through a strainer so the seeds were still in the gel. I wasnt even mad. I had some great fun xD
🤣🤣🤣
This is the ratio I've found works best for the most similar consistency:
1/4 cup flax seeds + 2 cups (480 ml) water
I made this twice before and I was using 1/4 cup with 500 ml but it was turning too watery in my opinion...
I hope this helps! 😉
Reduced is 2 tablespoons flax: 1 cup water
I think I’ll try this! Did you use those measurements but do the same steps as she did?
Thank you! I never got to the same thick constistency with 600 mL.
Béryl Viaris de Lesegno you could also leave the gel in the pot for longer
How long did you boil it for? I just tried 2.5 cups of water and 1/4 cup flax, boiled for 23 mins and it didn't get thick. I'm gonna try your recommendation next time
600ml= approx 2.5 cups you're welcome 😉
Thank you ♡
THANK U
12Myka12 lol thank you
Measurements in two different units. Smdh. Thank you!
Whyd i ask my self how to measure .5 😔
I just poured it through a fine strainer when it was hot and it turned out great! Thanks for the video :)
I did this for the first time and tested it on a patch of hair and feels so soft yet light weight...im in love
No other gel has worked for me the way this does!! I found your original recipe a few years ago and been hooked ever since ❤
Really? How many times u used?
Yay thank you! Can you do another DIY deep conditioner soon?
Hey Bria! I've been thinking about a fun one so hopefully soon! ❤️
Naptural85 yeeees we need it
Naptural85 yaass paleeze! maybe one with hibiscus /leaves powder?
Glad I found you, and happy to follow. That said, I did this and yay!!! it worked, then I added a twist. I put the seeds in a sock tied it and boiled it in the water. Low and behold, it worked, so I squeezed nothing and didn't have to strain it either. I put the remaining seeds in the fridge to use on my next batch. I'll let you know if it worked...
Gurrrrrrl! I came across your video 30 days ago. And this recipe has change my hair regiment for life. I have 4a type hair my curls are now super define and moisturized with no frizzy roots. Thank you, thank you, Thank you!
honestly dude just the squeezing process has me excited!
After spending way too much money on Diva Curl and losing hait I'm excited to try this. Thank you so much for sharing!
Followed this to the T and I am like so impressed. The best thing I’ve ever put in my hair Gel wise. Best twist out I’ve had. Thank you
Flaxseed gel legit gives the BEST definition EVAAR for literally any style
Love this!! I use a coffee press for extraction and afterwards I save the flaxseeds and make a hair mask 😊
Been using this for 2 weeks and I can already see/feel a difference in my hair.
Great job?
Genius
So yeah it’s 4am and I can’t sleep and I stumbled upon this video so I’m up making it…..anyone else up we hours of the morning wanting to jump up and make this right now!? Satisfying video. Ty!

I use this gel for like 5 years now. best thing ever❤
I used a French press coffee maker i got from Big Lots for 5 bucks-it works AMAZING! You dont have any mess, and its super fast!
QueenJ thanks for your info. My daughter has the same scalp condition. I will surely try using the pre poo aloe leaf routine for her.
QueenJ Thanks for responding so quickly🤗. I am glade they have No school today, so I'll try it today. One daughter has it really bad and the other one not so bad. But it's headache trying to fight the big flakes. Thanks again. Greatly appreciated. 😙

I heard that Coming To America quote! 'Just juices and berries!'
About 600ml with 1/4 in a saucepan and boil until starts to show strings (stirring intermittently).
Then remove from heat for 30-60min.
Strain with nylon, cheesecloth, or whatever you can.
Yay notification squad!! I love your channel!
I love your recipe. I added tangerine, lemon and rosemary essential oils to my gel. Thank you.
Going to try this RIGHT NOW! So excited. I stopped buying and using regular curl gels and I’m incorporating more natural oils and products, this will fit right in.
I don't have curly hair, but I did recently notice that my hair was thinning due to stress. EEK! :( BUT putting flaxseed gel in my hair as well as throwing a tsp into my breakfast smoothies has helped my hair so much! Love the video! Thanks again for this version! Never thought about using a pantyhose!
You can also use a french press to extract the gel!
I made my first batch of flaxseed gel today
@@natashatomlinson660 I had it boiling about 10 minutes as she mentioned. It had a slight mucus string when I took it off and didn't get the thick mucus until it cooled down. Hope this helps!
I think this should be added to the melanin line! I would definitely buy! 💛
Thanks you for this! Allergies have forced me away from basically everything because corn is in everything. This was posted in my corn allergy group and her hair looks amazing! Excited to try this.
I'm obsessed! This is an awesome video. I have been wanting to go zero waste and had no idea how to get hair gel that wasn't in a plastic bottle. Thanks to you, now I know!

I know I’m late. But I’m wondering if that’s why I’m having issues extracting the gel
Hahaha
Thank you soooooo much for this video!
I deal with chemical sensitivities and have curly hair yet cannot use hair gel or conditioners due to the chemicals in them.
Going to give this a shot!
You just may have saved the day!
I miss wearing my hair down without it just being straight frizz!
Thank you SO MUCH!
I can’t believe how easy this was to make. I left it for a few more minutes to be a bit thicker. My hair is so laid right now. Amazing!!
Yay!!! Thanks for the video I can’t wait to try! I’ve been making flax gel for about 3 years with similar ratios. I normally don’t boil as long and strain right away with a metal strainer. I add honey and fresh aloe, with essential oils. But this consistency is a lot thicker and I’m very interested to see how it holds !!!! Been feeling like I need to tweak my recipe lately !
Doesn't the honey make your hair sticky? How much do you add?
I had an epiphany that I might try this weekend. How about setting a strainer with the flaxseeds on top of the pot of boiling water, only lifting to stir. That way you won't even have to strain it after. Idk if it will work but that would be one less step in the process
Jus used ur technique and lemme tell u I was soooo nervous I'd mess it up but it came out perfectly thanks for this great video definitely subscribing!
Your hair is absolutely GORGEOUS ❤
Just made a small batch for my eyebrows and lashes. Will add some to my aloe vera gel. Beautiful hair!
you are gorgeous! And so are your curls. Can't wait to try your method. It's always hit or miss for me! xo

Looks great! Love it! ❤️❤️ I like to add either fresh rosemary or green tea to my water during the boiling process.
Monica McCullough hmmm what does that do?
That's a great idea! I ran out of rosemary oil but I do have fresh rosemary for tea
ToshPointFro it promotes growth & thickness to your hair..I love using rosemary oil on my edges it thickens them..hope that helps
Laura Furtado that will work too! Actual better bcause its fresh..I love rose Mary such a powerful little herb..
Nice. Tried it and it worked perfectly. I add bioenyme, rice water and soapnut solution and make a shampoo. So that was it's preserved in room temperature because of citus bioenyme.
I definitely want to try this I can’t use any gel or hairspray because it dries my scalp so bad so def have faith in this 🙌🏼
Thank you so much for this video tutorial!! Ive tried 3 times and couldn’t get the gel to strain, it was too thick. But after this video i got it on the first time! It really is perfect lmao🙏🏾 TYSM

OMG I come home from school and see this is 23 on #trending!!!!!!!!!!! OMG Congratulations!!!!!
I’ve been using this method for years and my curls love it. I store the gel in the fridge and it lasts up to two weeks.
I refuse to strain it hot. So I use organza bags or cheesecloth.
Made this today! It's not thick as yours but it curled the shhh out of my hair!!!! Thank you!
