I have a couple kaywoodies I smoke on occasion. Still with the stingers in tact. I know some people that take them out, which really messes up the intended draw. You have to use a pick to get those cleaned out. With the thin wall pipes, I found virginias tend to taste better to me as long as you slow down the pace so they don't get too hot
Pacing is everything. I hadn’t smoked this Campus in quite a while, and as I finished it after the video, I realized it wasn’t as hot as I had remembered. This was entirely attributable to a smoother cadence.
For a walking around pipe I prefer a smaller bowl. For my home pipes I prefer a larger bowl. But regardless of when I'm smoking my pipes. I always use a long stem pipe. Because I like a cooler smoke than is possible with a short stem pipe and because I hate tongue bite. My very first pipe when I was around nineteen years old was a Dr. Garbow that was about the size of your Dad's pipe.
I remember my dad had a few Kaywoodie pipes in his collection only because as a lad I used to look at them and take them apart. I remember seeing the stringer and not knowing what it was for. I like both large and small bowls. Depends on what I am doing or how much time I have. Cheers Ron
I'm smoking a Kaywoodie from about 1950 as I watch this. This one's a Large Apple shape, and you can see it when you first unfold the pamphlet. My other Kaywoodie is a model 7745 panel design made between 1935 and 1938. I hope to gather a few more old Kaywoodies because my dad smoked Kaywoodies before I was born in the mid-'60s.
Just found your channel buddy! Gave you a sub! Kaywoodie has always been SM Franks flagship line of products. Yello-Bole was known for their honey coated bowls and Medico for the 66 baffle filter! SM Frank is by far my fav production pipe manufacturer. Wonderful history.
@@PerkinsPipes I went to Central middle school. It was a magnet school back in the 90’s. I went to my neighborhood school Northeast for high school. I’m very familiar with MLK!
That’s too cool to have a family heirloom like that.
As we get older, such things mean more and more.
Great pipe. Very special 😊👍 take care
Thank you!

Very cool! I remember seeing my dad's pipes in his dresser drawer.

Very nice! I have thought about adding some more Kaywoodies for the same reason.

Thanks so much for subscribing! And thank you as well for the info on Kaywoodie! There is so much to learn about these classic pipes.
I have one Kaywoodie, purchased from Graywoodie. Hoping to find an estate one on eBay someday
I think smaller pipes are good for blends with higher nicotine.
I live in Kc ! What school in the 90's did you teach at? So fantastic to hear that as i was watching your video
It was Martin Luther King, Jr. Latin Grammar Middle School located at 42nd and Indiana. It is closed now, but the building is still there.
