I’ve farmed with two of those little tractors. They did change, the later ones were painted yellow.
LOVED THIS!! I remember my dad moving the yard with one of these. He's 98 and still has it, though he no longer uses it to "manicure the yard" as he always called it!!!! Thank you for bringing up some precious memories!! God bless!!

I am with you guys...I lived in an apartment on high street in Richmond, KY, right around the corner from EKU. I had my grandfather's 1948 model Cub in storage until an arsonist set fire to the storage unit next to mine. The tractor ended up at my apartment. Battery had been dead for years, but it had a magneto and crank started easily. I made many trips up and down high street with one son at a time...sometime taking the older one to Million park while the little one took a nap in our small apartment. Often, we went up and down high street when it was naptime. If anyone said anything, I told them some people use rocking chairs, I use an old tractor. I pulled back in the driveway, handed one son off to my wife, and she would lay him down in the bed and hand the other son up to me. The younger one fought going to sleep so hard because he wanted to drive. Ten or fifteen minutes puttering up and down usually did the trick. The tractor ran like a sewing machine until I pulled it up on the trailer to haul it to our new homestead...I was going to leave it running a while. It died when I walked inside to grab my tie down straps. The magneto drive gears finally stripped off. It sits in my barn almost 4 years later patiently awaiting a full restoration. Planning to do that one with the boys while telling them stories about grandma and granddaddy.
A good giggle is better than a grumpy mood any day.
A coat of paint would do wonders!
One statistic you should check out is how many people get killed when the tow ball snaps off when towing stuff. It will amaze you if you aint already dead.

He is right. There are a bunch of those old Cubs around especially in Kentucky as theywere a favorite for tobacco farmers.

I used to live next to a couple of drunks who had this 52 Chevy pickup that had been rotting next to their house for years. I had this base guitar that I traded for a little sailboat and trailer I never got around to using so I traded that for their truck. I don't think the dam thing had run for 20 years. Took me about a week and I had to replace some parts in the front end but I got her running again, took some orange and brown house paint and made her pretty, replaced the rotted wood in the bed with a piece of plywood and screwed the metal slats onto it so it looked like it still had wooden boards in the bed and it turned out to be a pretty nice truck. After driving it around for about a year a sold it to some collector for 3K which was a lot of money for it back then. I love tinkering with old things and bringing them back to life. Pulled a 63 chevy pickup out of the junkyard once and the head of that inline 6 was in the bed of the truck when I bough it. A week later I was driving that around. Took more time to get the tar off the truck than it did to get it running as it had been a roofers truck since the day it was born.

Me and my old Farmall ,, we both about the same age , both have a heart condition,, so I take a nitro pill some times and throw one in the gas tank of my tractor, and we both work fine for a while . coarse if I throw a viagra in her oil tank,,,,, sure makes her hydraulics stand up and come alive .........
The first vehicle I ever drove I was 8 years old and it was my grandpas old John Deere the kind where the front wheels were real close together and the steered it with the brakes. The steering wheel was just something to put your hands on. I'd drive that thing as a kid draggin a bailer and a wagon behind that catch the bails. You can't beat those old tractors. Course gandpa wouldn't have no International Harvester on his farm ner Ford neither lol ;)

If you'll pour some water down the carb at high rpm almost till it dies out a couple of times, it'll burn the carbon build up out of the cyclinders. Try it,it's an old farm boy trick

I was real nervous when it started...towing a cub often ends with the front-end being yanked off....I relaxed when a rope went around the casting....(sometimes the oil pump will loose it's prime if it's sitting long time....did you check your oil pressure?).....
