Alan Reynolds Our Govt needs to stop these gangs of shoppers going to store’s everywhere buying up our staples, dropping it all to a warehouse which is then loaded into shipping containers and then shipped to China. A friends son is a truck driver and says he sometimes picks up four shipping containers to drop them off to the port or rail. We have our export duties, but these loads are filled with goods purchased from our supermarkets, which then affects the communities. This type of buying and shipping has been going on for years. NaN baby formula was and still is going the same way. I think the Govt should stop the exports of our essentials for now so the public is taken care of during this crisis, but of course we know the Govt doesn’t care about its citizens

That old Sears and Roebuck's catalog was good for many things. We did not have a TV. Growing up I would spend hours looking through the toys. Until I got interested in girls. I found the women's under ware section interesting and educational. My teacher had us write letters to Santa. And tell him what we wanted for Christmas. Took me awhile to figure out why the teacher got mad at me. All I asked for, was the girl on page 257. That book was good for many things. Wipe your butt, start a fire, prop up the kitchen table. And when I could not go out side I would make paper airplanes.

I was thinking back to my "growing up" years as I listened to this. I grew up with an old privy outback, where a Montgomery Wards magazine was kept. We didn't have running water, unless I ran to the well to draw a bucket. I was in high school before we had a tv. Our phone was on a party line. I fished at the "crick", and mom fried up whatever I caught. Fried chicken every Sunday. Ever truck had a rifle or shotgun in the rack, depending on the season. We took our guns to school, to go huntin' after school got out. That is, if we didn't skip school the opening day of rabbit or quail season. If folks driving by saw us out, they'd stop to visit. Been many a sweet tea offered up to visitors out on that old front porch. Now, we rarely speak to each other, and many don't know their neighbors. As kids, we had farm chores, rode in the back of the pick-up truck, vehicles didn't have seat belts, we swam in the cattle pond, drank water from a bucket with a dipper. Now I wonder about today, and how some of the cupcakes we have running about would, or even if they could make it if we were to go back to simpler times. Be well everybody. I am an old guy. From my youth, I remember out houses with stacks of newspaper - and Sears catalogs. Nun a' that thar terlet paper in sight. That's just the way things were.
Grew up the same way. Never knew what kind of non-rolled 1 ply paper would be in the outhouse. Learned, at an early age, how to make a chunk of brown paper bag soft before use. It was also something to do while sitting and thinking.

When I was growing up we had an outhouse too. We never got the Sears and Roebuck catalog cause we could never afford anything out of the Sears and Roebuck catalog so we just used old magazines and such. While we sat and took care of business one hand would hold the magazine with lots of pages missing out of it and with the other hand we'd be crunching that page we'd ripped out of that magazine cause as you may know, the slick pages of those magazines weren't conducive to the butt-wipe application. Crunching those magazine pages would give them a bit more traction. That's how we made our own toilet paper.
I found out why from a guy at my local supermarket. With everything going on, you need a sense of humor, otherwise it could bring you down. He said people want to make sure their @ss is nice and clean before they kiss it goodbye. 🤣

I just heard that Costco is not allowing anyone to return Toilet paper, water, hand sanitizer, and Lysol. In a way I am happy, but on other way I also heard that people are returning the toilet paper because they are now unemployed and need the cash for food. Go figure

elige brown My husband is a truck driver. He almost never eats out. You need a microwave and an ice chest. Stock up when you can, with what you can. You can even scramble eggs in a microwave. He uses paper bowls and plastic forks and spoons because cleaning uses to much water. Bags of prepackaged salad will last 5 or 6 days, just add some deli meat for a healthy lunch. Frozen dinners of what ever you can get nowadays. I know it’s challenging to find what you need, but it can be done.

Speaking of bidets, I've had one in my house for over 30 years now and wouldn't wanna live without it!! My brother & I would spend summers at my Grandmother's ranch in the Sierra Foothills of CA. We didn't have indoor plumbing until 1951, so it was a 50 yard trip to the "chick sale" when nature called for #2. Nailed to the wall of the the "one-holer" was a 1946 Sears and Roebuck catalog that you used if you forgot to bring toilet paper. Being that this was rattlesnake country, you always carried a 10 cell Ray-o-vac flashlight, a 6 ft. "snake-stick"and TP. On arriving at the "chick sale", you beat the tin siding with the snake stick and if there was no responding "rattle" you went in and conducted your business. If you lost or forgotten the paper, there was the catalog waiting for your tender behind.
This is the real America--people with resilience and humor; and pretty good finger pickin'!!

I am an old guy. From my youth, I remember out houses with stacks of newspaper - and Sears catalogs. Nun a' that thar terlet paper in sight. That's just the way things were.
Grew up the same way. Never knew what kind of non-rolled 1 ply paper would be in the outhouse. Learned, at an early age, how to make a chunk of brown paper bag soft before use. It was also something to do while sitting and thinking.
These two men are what makes our Country really great. They have what is called "FAITH." They also have kindness in their hearts. We are in the same age bracket...I certain I am a few years older.......but we are the ones the younger generation makes fun of because we can't "multitask." My generation discovered, and refined, "multitasking".......we can sneeze, fart, laugh, pee, crap, all at the same time.

When I was growing up we had an outhouse too. We never got the Sears and Roebuck catalog cause we could never afford anything out of the Sears and Roebuck catalog so we just used old magazines and such. While we sat and took care of business one hand would hold the magazine with lots of pages missing out of it and with the other hand we'd be crunching that page we'd ripped out of that magazine cause as you may know, the slick pages of those magazines weren't conducive to the butt-wipe application. Crunching those magazine pages would give them a bit more traction. That's how we made our own toilet paper.
I found out why from a guy at my local supermarket. With everything going on, you need a sense of humor, otherwise it could bring you down. He said people want to make sure their @ss is nice and clean before they kiss it goodbye. 🤣

Back in the 50s? I remember diggiing several in the mid 1990s! We had to plan well in advance as winter/frozen ground starts in november and ends in aprilish generally.
I just heard that Costco is not allowing anyone to return Toilet paper, water, hand sanitizer, and Lysol. In a way I am happy, but on other way I also heard that people are returning the toilet paper because they are now unemployed and need the cash for food. Go figure

elige brown My husband is a truck driver. He almost never eats out. You need a microwave and an ice chest. Stock up when you can, with what you can. You can even scramble eggs in a microwave. He uses paper bowls and plastic forks and spoons because cleaning uses to much water. Bags of prepackaged salad will last 5 or 6 days, just add some deli meat for a healthy lunch. Frozen dinners of what ever you can get nowadays. I know it’s challenging to find what you need, but it can be done.

And for that same reason you DON'T want to crap in the bathtub,... You're NOT gonna be able to squish the crap down through the holes of that little drain with your toes!....
.....and since the plumbin' on a tub-drain is normally NOT readily-accessible you're going to be in some AWFULl

When I was a kid my grandparents had a double seater out house it was the only one in the county, folks came from miles around to read the Sears catalog ☺
My family in Kentucky had the hill side and the 2 seater.
That warmed my heart to have humor on current issues.

My brother & I would spend summers at my Grandmother's ranch in the Sierra Foothills of CA. We didn't have indoor plumbing until 1951, so it was a 50 yard trip to the "chick sale" when nature called for #2. Nailed to the wall of the the "one-holer" was a 1946 Sears and Roebuck catalog that you used if you forgot to bring toilet paper. Being that this was rattlesnake country, you always carried a 10 cell Ray-o-vac flashlight, a 6 ft. "snake-stick"and TP. On arriving at the "chick sale", you beat the tin siding with the snake stick and if there was no responding "rattle" you went in and conducted your business. If you lost or forgotten the paper, there was the catalog waiting for your tender behind.
