Cleetus has missed the oil line for the turbo for almost every first start since the channel started
Pretty much tradition at this point. The first one he gets it right, the motor will probably blow

when u guys find cracks u should drill each end to prevent crack from reforming, pretty much removes the tear and gives it a edge to prevent further cracking.
If you weld a crack you're completely melting the metal, not really much use in drilling the ends. Backing gas will be a lot more useful in preventing cracks

Definitely get them brakes looked over. My friend had a chute failure yesterday and went through the sand trap at nearly 180 and hit the barrier fence. Thankfully he's okay, but the car has seen better days.

Back purge with argon when welding stainless. The inside of the pipe will be “sugared” which is porosity and will cause failure again.

Pretty sure that sugar broke off and destroyed my turbo exhaust wheel 500 miles later 😂😂

@@ttv8ra23 you are correct, I should’ve specified more but I hate typing on my phone. When they made this originally I don’t remember them purging the pipe. Working on ethical refineries taught me it’s the the smallest amount of “sugar” you have to cut it out and redo it to prevent ruptures/failures in the future.

Not gonna be much of a hood. Will be interesting to see what they do.
BUT they need far less engine hanging out the bonnet to start with. As a road racer we are not allowed any engine parts out of the bonnet. Far safer.

It's good to see a decision made to invest in something that is likely to grow in value (Motion Raceworks) than another of your many toys (sand rail). I realize that this channel has as one of its primary purposes to entertain us, but you should also think about the long term. No disrespect intended by this comment.

NOTICE: we warned ya before, any engine that runs alcohol/methanol/ethanol (that sits alot) MUST be ran on gasoline before storage. You need to fab up a aluminum mini, hand carried tank (1/2 gal) complete with pump, fuel lines & mini 12v battery, ask any Indycar team to see theirs. Turn off the car's onboard pump while running this & have it connected to the engine's fuel rail. This will save you a ton of fueling issues.
kinda hard to run a blown up engine on gas to flush the ethanol out.

@@STARSHIPTROOP methanol is a different story altogether. when i used to wrench on top alcohol stuff we used to drain the fuel at the end of everyday, pull all the fuel lines off, and fog the fuel pump and barrel valve with wd40. methanol has no sense of humor when it comes to corrosion. ethanol is a little more forgiving, depending on the gasoline content.
with efi injectors its not enough to simply drain the fuel and let them drip out, if they are going to sit for a long time they should be put on an injector bench and flushed and flowed to ensure they are good when you need them.
@@Sharkey_t agreed, these guys haven't been around this stuff long enough to see what damage it can actually cause. its old wrenches like us to have to give them a heads up. they are not a pro team that has tons of procudures before they even hit the track. Asking them to buy a flow bench is a bit much but hopefully we can guide them to have the least amount of headaches.

I love that she finally is fixed, but what about the dry sump? Thought it was determined that the old motor starved for oil under deceleration / breaking down track.
They actually haven't figured that out yet, or have ignored comments about it in the past. I've definitely tried to call attention to it. There have been a lot of us commenting on it in past videos, Steve Morris even called Tom Bailey out for it on Drag Week. I think it was the same vid on Tom's channel where they visited John Forces shop, he described it in detail, Morris said its one of the most common engine failures due to driver error. Ya gotta go to free neutral on shut down or your bottom end is under massive load during its point of lowest oil pressure. Will eventually wipe out crank bearings. Hope they catch up before they spend more money needlessly.

Dry sump is definitely the best option, but even an Accusump would significantly improve the reliably of maintaining oil pressure.
Repeating the same action and expecting a different outcome is a sure sign of insanity. I've lost count of the number of engines they've damaged from oil starvation.

When I was in my early 20's if I could have EVER gotten an engine to start on only the 13th try, I would have been very happy. My early builds if one started in under 40 attempts, I started getting cocky. This was way back before computer engines, when it was all trial and lots of error.

Might be worthwhile to get an injector tester/cleaner for the shop. while its ideal to drain the fuel and run it on pump gas, its not always an option.
When welding cracks always take a small drill bit and drill a hole at the end of the crack to relieve the stress or it will crack again and further 👍
This crack was formed at a weld because there wasn't good penetration. It's different from a casting, for example, like you mentioned where you have to drill the ends of the crack to keep it from spreading. Even with drilled holes at the weld crack, it is guaranteed to crack again in a different spot because the weld was poor. To fix this properly you'd have to reweld the whole joint, not just patching cracks and pinholes.
Yup. And rig up something to vibrate the work piece while you weld. Greatly reduces stresses in the metal and helps prevent warping and cracking.
@@mayshack I agree it needs redone, the patch will last a little longer if drilled. I'm a certified welder and a farmer, sometimes you gotta fix it down and dirty then repair it properly later
It needs a brace that is bolted to the engine to support the turbo. That is a lot of weight hanging off that pipe especially during a run when the pipe is red hot. And the crack should of been v notched before being welded. And back purged.
The crack probably started on the inside where the weld was contaminated.
That turbo manifold repair very sketch...will crack again v soon
