  • Second of a two part video that looks at surface grinding. Surface grinding is not generally used by hobby machinists but learning the basics of the process can help to impress a future employer or bring someone to farm out certain operations to a specialized shop because they would understand that this technique could help in completing and important part. In this video, we will look at the grinding accurately, squaring up a bloc and completing a project. This video is part of a series of videos that include:

As for all THATLAZYMACHINIST videos, this video is produced for novice , garage or beginner machinists. You can find all my videos as well as project drawings and course notes on my website THATLAZYMACHINIST.COM . Thanks for understanding that I am a professional toolmaker and teacher but I am not a professional video producer (and it shows). I produce these videos for fun as a little retirement project that lets me give back a little of what was passed on to me by so many amazing trades people most of whom, sadly, are no longer with us. I love your videos and I bet you would cry if you saw how we use our small manual surface grinder at work. Hahaha when time is money, the wheel barely ever turns off

Great video, Mark. Could you make a third video dealing with sparking out and troubleshooting surface issues. Thanks.

Replace the switch on that machine with a single pole double throw, and wire it up to connect a power resistor between the motor wires when turned off. That will stop the spinning much faster.
