Himeno was the type to seek out any sense of pleasure she could find (even in unhealthy ways) because her life was just so awful otherwise. Seeing so many partners die by devils, getting blamed for it, working in a field where death is basically guaranteed… that would fuck pretty much anybody up. Despite that, she could never stop caring about others. Her words “Having someone care enough for you to cry like that… must be nice” indicates how lonely she must’ve felt. Her death was perfect for her character, someone who was haunted by the ghosts of her past and was literally taken by them in the end. She deserved a better life, and she almost got one, but she wouldn’t abandon Aki. What a well written and tragic character. Definitely my favorite in the show so far. RIP
agreed, when all her partners eventually die on her who's there to mourn her death? I'm somewhat glad she could be the first to pass this time around rather than the last
i like that they forshadowed this, by having her constantly come back every month to mourn her old comrades. Wow, the writing in this show is very well done (in my opinion)

Yep, she's a genuinely flawed and not super likable person, but that's what makes her character interesting. She's not a bad person, just flawed.

Fujimoto, the author said, in anime some characters will be given death after they finish certain task and goals. But he doesn’t like it, in his opinion that is too dramatic but death is sudden, without any foreshadow.

Yuppp, life can be extremely tragic. There are times people pass on without accomplishing anything, and at a young age.
Yes, that's 'realistic', but if realistic was good storytelling we wouldn't tell stories. It's good for shock value, but it's taking most of what's been build up til now and the story we've been enjoying and throwing that in the trash. It's also makes the story feel extremely predictable if no one is safe and you've got exactly 2 developed characters. It's telling us to not get invested in anyone and that Aki (and maybe Power) is guaranteed to die in the near future.
If Himeno's really dead then the series is just reduced to a game of 'guess how many episodes til Aki dies'.

I don't care what some people say , himeno earned all the respect in that last scene, sacrificing everything to give aki a chance and with that ost it was perfect, at the end she only gave affection and wanted to receive the same from the other person.
I don't know, i find it so natural, she just showed herself as she was and didn't hide her true feelings towards others. I think that in spite of not seeing her much, she has a lot of background and is one of the most interesting and real characters in the story, it is very well written...
by the way is not aki who buries the nail, it is curse and you can see his finger doing it.

Aki's sword seems to work similarly to a gun which is a bit ironic since he wants to kill the gun devil. The phrase he says (Ute) means fire as in 'shoot'. So every time he attacks, he positions his sword and says "fire" for the curse devil's finger to flick the nail into the target similar to how a hammer would hit the firing pin in a gun. If the target is hit 3 times, they get killed by the curse devil no matter where they were hit. That's why Aki said he could use the sword on the eternity devil even though its heart wasn't reachable. It's pretty effective at taking on all types of opponents but in this case, Aki was unlucky since the enemy seems to be similar to Denji in that they can revive, likely through a trigger method (Denji revives when his cord is pulled as shown in the battle against Eternity Devil. His neck is snapped but when Himeno pulls his cord he's back to life).

他の国の方からすると、難しいかなと思い補足しました。
Pain. Himeno is goated for this, and cue additional trauma for Aki. This episode is a work of art though, especially the ost after Makima got shot, and when Himeno made her final contract.

But the person Denji has been the most intimate with is in fact Himeno.

don't think this should be spoilery but i jsut wanna bring up something kinda fun:
the sword man who attacked everyone is never canonically named for some reason, so most fans call him the name "Katana Man", to mirror denji's "chainsaw Man title. The closest we have to a potential real name is "Samurai Sword", a name used to refer to him in a recap page.

Yeah, I always thought it was interesting that we call him Katana Man despite that NEVER being said in the manga. I only even picked up on it because of reading discussions after each chapter.
To be clear, Fox isn’t dead. It just left after getting hurt, especially since it’s contract with Aki just involves it eating things he asks it to, not fighting for him.
Well why doesn’t he use it more in the manga?

They literally say after this fight that Fox ended her contract with Aki because she almost died. That's why he makes a contract with Future Devil. We see several people use Fox's claws in the Bomb Devil and International Assassins arcs.

I've been somewhat spoiled from gif and pictures online, but it seems to be another AoT where people just die due to the circumstances of the environment (war/conflict).
I have a theory Makima is an angel since there are scenes of a pink haired woman in the intro, though it's kinda hard to decipher if it's Makima or just a similar looking gal.
All the death does put a sour spot in my mouth, but I'm interested in how this develops, even if I'm less inclined to invest in characters.

The "age of consent is 13 in Japan" is a misconception about their laws and I'm tired of hearing it.
Yes, 13 year olds can consent but only to other minors within their age range like 13 or 14. The actual age of consent is 16-18 depending on the prefecture, and even then depending on the circumstances a 20 year old or older can get in trouble with the law for having sex with an 18 year old.
Even if that’s the case you do realize it’s an anime it doesn’t have to follow our human laws nor do they most of the time it’s fantasy a bunch of made up shit there no need to freak out over cartoon characters kissing and shit.

+ I think it's a safe assumption that Himeno might have joined the myriad hands that the Ghost Devil possesses.
The Ghost Devil is fairly intriguing given that it seems fairly content with moderate, permanent forms of sacrifice in order to use it. Though, it makes sense that for one to give up their entire existence to use the ghost devil, that this is a grave ask that would summon it completely. And given how strong the fear of ghosts are internationally, it's safe to say that if it weren't for Snake girl's intervention, Katana Man would have been mutilated again.
*- Did the Fox Devil die too?*
+ Not likely! It's unclear exactly to which extent, but devils appear to have varying amounts of durability, though plenty have clear weak points. If we go with the Eternity Devil, for instance, just slicing it up wouldn't kill it; it would come back stronger. The heart needed to be cut down, specifically. In Fox's case, only parts of its body have been summonable so far, so it could be safe to assume that its vitals/heart is somewhere in Kyoto. The head is likely just out of commission for the moment.

+ I think it's interesting that most people I've watched seem to have similar reactions/feelings on this matter. Probably because her death was so spontaneous it's hard to believe she really died, but moreover, that people think Makima could have lived because she gave off the aura of a strong individual. That's the mark of solid character design. Makima's authority alone convinced the viewer that if she's able to harness the respect, admiration, and even the fear of her subordinates, that she must be incredibly strong, when nothing besides how she carried herself implied as much, especially given we never got to see her in action~

I’m watching with two anime-only’s, and neither of them believed for a second that Makima was dead, and I haven’t said a thing that could spoil them. They really do get across her supreme authority really well.

I think what some people could have meant when they said that technically Denji isn't a minor is that neither him nor Power have human rights. They're considered to be devils so what someone do to them is irrelevant. The only ones who could object would be the devil hunter organisation, but their direct superior (Makima) didn't care and the top guys saw them as animals, so I doubt anything would happen.

I started the chainsaw man manga forever ago and didn't get to this part. It's rare an anime makes me want to read the manga to see what happens next, but this one has accomplished that handsomely.

Himeno was extremely drunk that time. She was never attracted to Denji. What she did was wrong and she acknowledged it when she was sober. It's important to understand the thought process of a character before assigning terms to them.
She is emotional broken from losing her past partners. But that doesn't excuse abducting a minor, getting him drunk, and molesting him. Even if you are drunk.
Don't defend this, you look suspect for rationalizing statutory r*pe.
I mean she’s trying to get denji with Makima I think they put that part about the law to reassure people because I don’t honestly think she cares about the law but regardless it’s an anime it doesn’t have to or need to follow normal human realms most don’t I can understand people saying it’s gross but remember these characters are made up guys it’s not real.

Idk why everyone thinks he got drunk off her puke. My reasoning is he puked EVERYTHING out of his system, food, tea/water. Man is super dehydrated probably, that’s why he’s asking for water, is my guess. It shows him drinking some water in that Chupa Chups flashback but I don’t think he got enough. But that’s just a really small theory 😂 also yes.. this is Turning Point number 1/100 of Chainsaw Man. These upcoming episodes are going to be INSANE.

I've watched way too many reactions to this episode (the reactions are too good!), but it's hilarious how everybody seems to agree 1) Denji getting shot in the dome is NBD 2) Makima has GOT to have a way out of getting visibly un-alived and 3) Himeno needs to make better life choices, but did not deserve to die.
Samurai Sword is literally the new villains name but we dubbed him Katana Man to follow the same name pattern as Denji's Chainsaw Man.
Himeno is dead. She's gone. She was such a great & flawed character. She has a lot of trauma behind her cute & cheeky personality. She vented her frustrations at Denji as well as trying to take advantage of him while she was inebriated. After she sobered up she was aware that what she did was wrong. You barely have characters like that (*cough* Meliodas *). She's also Denji's first friend that he made that wasn't out of obligation.

Devil deaths are explained a bit further than what the anime will cover but to explain what happened to Fox & Ghost, Fox didn't die, she got hurt, and is upset at Aki for "feeding her something foul."
Put a "spoiler" label on what u said about Himeno's situation. People think she still can come back somehow, so that is kind of spoilery.

So to clarify, and it's not really a spoiler but Himeno really is dead. After saying that she's going to give "everything" she has to the Ghost Devil, that contract has been sealed completely and her disappearing is just another way of showing that the devil was slowly eating her existence. That's just my interpretation of it so yeah. Great reaction btw!
You are correct. Her proposal was basically "let me use all of your body (not just arm) in exchange for my entire body". Himeno doesn't exist anymore in any physical sense.

I don't think people who read the manga and don't like Himeno are actually watching the same manga.
It's just that a normal girl playing Devil Hunter can't do it without removing the screw in her head on purpose, but I wanted her and Aki to be happy no matter what anyone said.
It's more that she's a flawed person, but not in some stupid way nobody cares about but actually flawed, which is rare for anime characters to be. She's selfish and jealous; what she did to Denji was very questionable, if not straight-up wrong, and sometimes comes off as fake as she hides her honest emotions and thoughts from those around her.
But this is why I like her character; it's the fact that she *_isn't_* super likable, and for good reasons too. She has flaws that many, if not all, can relate to and that we dislike about ourselves. She's not a bad person, just flawed.

I don’t know, I’ve read the manga twice and I’m still confuse about that. To me, it seems like they fused and then she lost her body because Sawatari had Snake swallow the ghost devil. It looked like she was losing her arms as Katana Man chopped off Ghost arms. It might just be me miss understanding what happened haha.

Sam was right, Himeno knew she was dead anyway. She coughed up blood right before making that decision. That means internal bleeding and considering the area she was shot, she guessed that the bullet had hit her heart. Even if it had just nicked her heart, given the situation, she was not going to get the medical attention she needed to survive in time. Might as well just go All In with the few minutes you had left.

This episode was INSANE. Like wtf, you blink everyone is getting shot, Himeno is disappearing (absolutely heart breaking sequence, btw, the way they animated her body parts disappearing was incredible) and I can see no way that our guys can survive that shit. I mean, the Katana guy is clearly much stronger than Denji currently is. Power already said she can't do anything, and that mfer can revive Katana guy anyway if Aki is able to kill him again with Curse Devil. What then? I guess we're just fucked lmao
Also, I'm REALLY having to make an effort to not read the manga after this episode

Don't take sexual parts of the story as filler scenes or something, you might feel uncomfortable and don't wanna watch that again but remember all of this is occurring because those stuff happened in the first place. It is indeed an important part of story, perhaps the most important.

It wasn’t going to work, not a spoiler since they’ve dropped hints but you have to destroy their hearts. That’s essentially the only way to kill Denji and hybrids. Also, Sawatari would still be able to revive him like she did 😅.
Probably the latter, she thought she could be disposed as a devil for killing a human so she left him to Aki.

He was loopy in Himeno's bed because of the nausea medicine that Makima gave him. She said to take it with plenty of water right before bed, that's why he was sleeping when Himeno carried him away, and thirsty when he woke up. I'm not sure who said he was drunk because of Himeno's vomit, but that's not how that works lol. She already absorbed the alcohol into her bloodstream, and he vomited it up pretty quickly.

This is just my theory but maybe... Himeno made a new contract to allow the ghost devil to use her entire body whenever, so the ghost devil could maybe revujinate her body but when she uses her ghost devil, she will no longer have control like she did when it was just her left hand?

The series will still follow the manga as it has done till now, except for minor changes in dialogues and maybe asthetics, scriptwriter cannot change the whole freaking premise or set up of the story lol. You can be butt hurt all you want, the series will follow the manga and Himeno will remain dead. The only reason CSM got an anime is how big a cult following the manga got, no one in their right mind( maybe except the holier than thou entitled narcissistic self appointed moral compass of humanity americans would) will change anything major to anger their fanbase. Also the producer of the series has said that they will not change anything, cross out anything and will stay faithful to the manga. The only thing they might change is the pacing, if they find it getting dragged.
She did form a new contract, but the contract was "I will sacrifice myself to you, so let me use all of you for this moment." So yeah, she's gone.
My fav part about this series is how Denji changes and grows as a person. You just love to see it
The way I see it, Denji is still a work in progress. Curious to see how the author will continue to flesh his character

I'm so glad I went into this show blind and did not read the manga. I had no idea the mangaka took Chainsaw Man down a sort of 'Berserk' route where the people around the MC you think will be around forever get brutally and suddenly murdered and the show shifts tone.

I think I could say this, If devil dies in CSM they got transferred to hell. They can come back to the world. They don't truly "die". There is only one way to truly kill devil. I think that's kind of spoiler so I won't say anything. You gonna find out about it later.
I would guess the Fox Devil is probably ok. She's only contracted to stick around long enough to bite someone, and it takes a lot more than being cut up a little to kill most devils.
The gun scene reminds me a lot of the anime Inuyashiki, but I think if you enjoy shocking deaths like this you'd love the anime Gantz
