The collective gasp at the reveal of Aki's remaining lifespan.. Lol. This is exactly why Himeno was so adamant on him not using the sword. It's powerful but the drawback is great too.

@@pushqrdx Bwahahahaha basically what I was thinking. As "powerful" as the sword was supposed to be, our first encounter was it was basically not working because the dude got revived immediately. So basically he used it and lost his lifespan for no reason. Same with Himeno sacrificing herself (might've delayed enough to stop them from killing Aki) but ghost basically got chomped by Snake before killing katana man again. Tragic, really.
if what Sawatari did to KatanaMan is basically the equivalent to pulling the ripcord on Denji, then he needs a refund ya. but if Sawatari did some black magic bullshit devil revival shenanigan then I think it's fine. but then again we just saw her sit there and revive the dude in like 3 seconds
basically if he tried that Curse on Denji, Denji would come out alive in the end like it's nothing. like master kishibe KO-ing him casually
LMAO no refunds here. It's not the curse devils fault that it was used on an immortal. Pretty sure it was the equivalent of pulling denjis ripcord but if it was used on any normal person or devil it would've worked.

Notice how he criticized himeno for still visiting her dead partner's grave but he's doing the same thing. Maybe he's not as crazy as he wants to be
he reminds me of Levi from AoT, because while he may be used to all the death around him it doesn’t get any easier to deal with and that shows in his actions

It's sad he had to see those letters because it shows him that Himeno only stayed in that division because Aki didn't want to leave, she wanted to be with him in the private division which could've kept her alive, so now he will feel guilty

Aki got the same treatment Himeno had when her partners died. This time it was not a physical attack but an emotional one. Lol i mean why show him those letters if not to make him feel guilty about it.

I think Himeno's sister giving Aki the letter was just a more severe form of the slap Himeno got early on. Slapping Aki in the face with the realization that it was partially his fault she died because he didn't take her seriously and she refused to leave him (only partially cause she could've left Public Safety on her own).
Essentially, it was just a non-violent indirect form of the slap Himeno got from her ex partners girlfriend.
I think it was probably an attempt to get him to quit when he realized just how much Himeno wanted that, but yeah there was most likely some resentment going on there too. Himeno used to take abuse from anyone since she probably thought she deserved it, so I doubt the sister would’ve wanted to put the person Himeno cared about most through the same thing, but I think she probably did subconsciously blame him even though Himeno staying a devil hunter was ultimately her own decision to make

Honestly it was pretty brilliant, and a brilliantly executed subversion. The audience expects their plan to be absolutely brain dead but they surprise us with a well-thought-out ambush.
Denji did not take into account his shadow will be seen when he attacked Kishibe, other than that it was a well thought plan.. At least for them.

Kobeni was panicking in the hotel because they couldn't do anything against the eternity devil. Himeno physically hurt it and that made the situation worse. Nothing kobeni could do would have helped. The only choices were sacrifice denji or slowly starve to death.
She was also still scared and literally sad the entire time she was saving denji btw
here we go again with Kobeni's white knighting. I don't care if she's the Levi in this series and I don't care if she's the most human out there and it's okay to be freaking not. No it's not okay. Nothing she could do? how about not freaking out? as shown by the rest of them. I know she'll get a development because everyone of you manga readers couldn't shut up about it but at that moment the worst thing is to be panicking.

Man, the Kobeni bullet scene - you gotta watch him. He gets shot, raises his hand to the bullet, and you see his eyes narrow. In that split second he realizes not only that he's shot but exactly what is going on, where the shot came from, and all that shit. In a microsecond. And he acted to protect Kobeni. It's the most tragic part of that episode to me
I don't understand why people say "why didn't kobeni do anything to eternity devil" but like with all of those crazy moves, how was she going to use them against a eternity devil like it was just a blob of flesh in the hallway

Lmao they think its typical shonen shit where someone can bust some awesome moves and thought it will work on ALL enemies.
My favorite part was Denji's weird moans as his brain healed "wrong" after getting destroyed over and over. Something about that detail really drove home the point how fucked up what they're going through is.
The reason the letter by himeno was highlighted was because she stayed in public safety because of AKI, or else she would have left much earlier and wouldn't have died for him.. so aki realises in a way he is responsible for her death...
not just that, it also shows him how much Himeno really cared for him which he probably didn’t even realize before since he was so dead-set on killing the gun devil (and also his whole thing with Makima)
She could have left even before meeting Aki.
There was probably an unexplained reason that made her want to stay in the Public Safety. Aki made her give up that reason.
@@beyondviolet I think that's an important addendum, and as such I think you're both correct. The couple of lines from the letter we see really convey a lot of information to Aki that we as viewers already got to see in the episodes that led to Himeno's death. It's just that now we know that Aki knows. I think Aki knew that Himeno was interested in him, but since, like you said, he only had eyes for Makima + had his revenge quest, he wasn't emotionally available, and probably didn't fully get the extent of Himeno's affection.
I think from a storytelling perspective the letter is important, but it's kind of a dick move from Himeno's sister to show it to Aki, like was pointed out in this reaction. She is grieving and probably blames Aki, like the loved ones of Himeno's dead partners blamed Himeno, so it makes sense from the perspective of the narrative. If I was Aki, I would blame myself, since there literally was something he could have done to prevent her death, even if he didn't understand it at the time. It wasn't really Aki's fault, though. She was an adult and could have quit even if Aki didn't. And it's not like Aki killed her.
@@lukecheung5777 the teacher guy said in one of the flashbacks that she wants to kill the gun devil too. Plus the guilt of her past partners’s deaths was probably a reason for her to stay as well
@@juho1891 I also think the letter could’ve been a method for the sister to try to get Aki to quit, since that’s what Himeno wanted. Like a way to honor her. Obviously it didn’t work, but he would’ve stayed on regardless of if he read the letter or not so I think it was sort of a last ditch attempt on the sister’s part. Honestly there’s a bunch of different ways to interpret her actions here since we only saw so much of her, but considering how she didn’t try to chew Aki out at all or actively hurt him (unlike what Himeno’s past partners’s families did with Himeno) I don’t think her main goal was to make him feel shitty.
girls, if Aki, Himeno and Makima have pacts with devil then I'm pretty sure the strongest devil hunter would too, ain't no way current Chainsaw Denji beating this dude.

I hope it comes out sooner than expected, but at the same time I wouldn't mind waiting for this level of production a second time. I'd hate to see it downgraded just to push it out sooner. My favorite chapters of the manga have all yet to happen

I love the little details like Denji leaving the apple for Aki. A person who had everything taken from them being willing to give something is really beautiful.
I love the detail that when Denji saw Aki sad they zoomed in on his eyes, but just for a moment, it's almost like Denji recovered his humanity just for a short moment, to me it's ike Denji is trapped inside, and for a slight moment we saw the real Denji when they zoomed in on those eyes

Yeah idk about that one. Denji isn't a total asshole but at the same time the apple basket was gifted to Aki, he has no boundaries so he just took it. Probably hasn't ever had anything gifted to him either considering his upbringing

I feel as though it was kinda the opposite lol. someone who had everything taken from them is willing to take from another because that was Aki’s basket in the first place. BUT I do think it shows how denji cares at least somewhat to leave him an apple. He could’ve taken the whole thing and not left an apple lol.
@@irecordwithaphone1856 I guess I could see that. I just interpreted it a different way. When Denji was in the hospital Aki cut his apples and then used them to threaten him. Here we see Denji give Aki one of his own apples to show some sense of kindness even after refusing to let Powy have one. I think it’s a great scene either way.

The contracts can be anything, like the fox devil that liked Aki and because of that he could use her head for small parts of his body.
The future devil may want half ur life span OR ur eyesight, sense taste and smell OR something else, anything else.
if a devil likes u he can asks for a joke and u can use him forever, if he doesnt care about u the contracts would be as the said above about the future devil, if he dislikes u he could ask for ur liver or something like that.
Like himeno gave PART of her body to use the ghost devil while the blonde girl only gave a finger nail to use the snake devil.

There is some nuance though. Himeno may have had her vision permanently impaired but on a long enough timeline it can't be as bad as constantly having your finger nails be ripped off with each use of power.
@sialiasialis oh without a doubt, but some people would also value their eyesight more than experiencing pain from a torn fingernail and vice-versa. It really just depends on the person and their perspectives on the situation. But you are right. There is some nuance to it
@@sialiasialis. 100% and in the end the devils just like watching humans suffering, power shows that a lot. So one devil could say "haha she gave me her eye" and the other "I painfully remove her nails everytime she uses me" and then they laugh together

I like how this show reveals emotions like how it is in real life..I felt for Aki and Denji!!....Aki's case losing a close one..someone you talked to everyday then it just hits u ,those little texts and phone calls and conversations just stop...Denji's growing up to chaos...constantly around death and destruction..you become numb to your emotions....reminds me of gang life....people deal with these things in reality
I think denji's problem is that he never had people who cared about him, he doesn't know what it is to feel empathy or friendship for another person because he never saw himself in a situation like that, pochita was the one who accompanied him but he never related to real people with whom he could create bonds and I feel that he is just starting to feel that and maybe he doesn't know what those feelings are. It's awesome that even though it's a quiet chapter, we get this level of animation and it has such a good plot.

There is also the possibility that becoming part devil has affected his ability to emotio ally process, as well, which is kind of an implication.
Denji is a weird case of a person who never really developed empathy correctly from childhood. This means he will feel things in the "wrong" way due to a lack of exposure. He was on survival mode 24/7 until what happened with him and Pochita.
He has no awareness of his own feelings and he barely understands himself as it is. Sadly, this will take a long time to get better.
I haven't read the manga, so I don't know where the story is going with this, but I don't think it's just that. I think I basically agree with the reactors on this one. To me that moment in this episode was just a very human one, just some mature writing by someone who understands that people don't react to things that simplistically. Not everyone cries or even feels that sad when someone they know dies, how one reacts can depend on a lot of factors, but that apparent lack of a "correct" reaction goes so against social expectations that it can cause one to wonder what that says about them as a person. Like the reactors pointed out, I think that in itself goes to show that he's not heartless, although he's not "normal" by social standards, whatever that means.
I think Denji actually reflects on how he feels a fair bit, he just doesn't know how to relate to the world around him. He doesn't know how to apply his feelings to his actions. He wants to feel safe, and loved, and he wants to experience something fulfilling--he just doesn't know how to achieve any of that, so he latches on to whatever he thinks might get him closer to what he craves. His current job has given him a sense of security, but he also feels like something is missing. I think Denji's struggles are something a lot of people can relate to.
Thematically, I think it ties in with the fact that Denji has a lot of expectations for what a "normal" life is like, but a lot of his expectations don't end up resembling reality. For growing up in such extreme circumstances, he is very much aware of social norms and has expectations that a lot of "normal" people have, especially growing up, only to find out that life isn't necessarily always like that.

I might just be reading too much into this, but could the apple be the curse (making contracts with devils) that every one (Adam) wants to eat? I mean, they are doing it because there is no choice but apple related stuff has happened quite a few times I think in this story. And they focus on it everytime too. Like when Aki was cutting apples into slices for Denji when his arm was reconnected
I don't think so, Denji left an apple because he saw Aki being sad and felt empathy for him
My interpretation of the Apple is that it represents Aki’s choice of a healthy future vs a self destructive one. After Denji left the room Aki had a choice (visually) to reach for the Apple or for a cigarette, and I think that represents his decision on retiring and living a peaceful final 2 years vs staying and the consequences of that

Don't worry about Aki's lifespan. Himeno is training in the magical world of angels together with the Rainbow Angel who will teach her a technique to cancel the effects of the Curse Devil. After Denji defeats the terrible gun devil Himeno will come back and get married to Aki. They will have two beautiful children, a boy and a girl and every Christmas they get together with Uncle Denji and Aunt Power playing snowballs.

I just wanna clarify some of the pronunciation since y’all seem to have been having trouble with it for a while.
So for Himeno, if you wanna pronounce it the English way, it’d be “Hih-Men-Oh” or “Hi” as in “him” or “hit” or “his”, “men” like the word “men”, and “oh” like the word “oh”. Hi-men-o. Himeno.
Kobeni would be (Koh-ben-ee) so “Ko” like “Co-operate” or “Co-worker”, “ben” like the name “Ben”, and “i” like in the words “leek” or “eat” or “flee”. Ko-ben-i. Kobeni.
I think you got the rest of the names down so nice job with that.

I think the more experienced people in public security (Aki, Himeno, the two from Kioto) are aware that using Curse can bail you out from immediate death, but people who end up using it aren't staying around for long.
Kishibe (the badass blonde guy) has the same voice actor as Nanami from Jujutsu Kaisen. That's probably why the voice reminds you of someone. Also Denji doesn't say ''Powy'' which is a nice nickname in the translation but he says ''Power-ka'' which Japanese people use for their female friend behind their names. So basically Denji sees Power as a friend already

you may remember when Kobeni and Arai were first introduced Himeno mentioned briefly that _Arai has heart but lacks the ability_ while _Kobeni has skills but isn’t confident_
Man I wish we got more of Arai, always loved both him and Kobeni, thought they were nice.
I think himenos sister gave the letters to Aki so he would feel guilty. She knows she only stayed becuase of Aki so the soster might have some resentment towards him. Or it could be just be about clarifying her feeling but it also connects back to when himeno told Aki about family of past partners letting out their frustration on them. It's a bummer but after reading alot of the mangakas work he likes to kick his characters while they're down lol

The point of giving him the letter WAS to make him feel guilty. Instead of slapping him or yelling at him, she basically shows him that it's kind of his fault that Himeno died. She wanted out, but chose to stick around because he was stubborn about staying with Public Safety.
The emotional scenes really hit hard man, like it's a lot to take in and it's all so sudden but the emotional scenes aren't drawn out or meant to be super sad or anything, which is exactly why they're so good. They're kinda melancholic and I love it, short and bittersweet just like half of people's lives in that universe :'-). You guys are gonna love the rest of CSM, it's full of action and tons of humor and it's all so balanced so well. Really looking forward to your guy's future reactions! Only 2 more episodes to go!
Awesome stuff as usual! Yeah Kishibe is crazy but awesome and what adds to that is the fact that he’s the only person of his age to still be in Public Safety that we’ve seen at this point. Everyone currently is young and Denji is the youngest so there’s some parallels there. Also yeah the contracts for the Future Devil seem crazy but keep in mind that when it comes to stronger devils they may be giving up a lot but they’re getting an equal exchange. Give up more/important stuff = get more/stronger abilities. So like comparatively, the Fox devil wanted some skin for using its head whereas the Curse Devil wanted lets say 80% of Aki’s lifespan but you get to cause instant death. So it makes you wonder what exactly did the Future Devil give those people? And what can Aki bargain for exactly? (I know because I read the manga but I’m very excited for you guys to see how insane this entire series is)
Regarding Makima, people in positions of power don’t have to make sacrifices, they have others they can force to make sacrifices for them. True in life and true in Chainsaw Man.

There literally was nothing Kobeni could do against the Eternity Devil, none of them could actually kill it except for Aki's sword and Denji only beat it after three days of massive pain.

When Denji woke up and started making those sounds, it disturbed me for some reason. Like his brain was mush. That's terrifying thought that you could be immortal but lose your intelligence and what makes you, you. Stuck forever borderline brain dead.
That is a pretty terrifying thought, luckily the hybrids would only have to go through a little of that before completely healing.
No denji with the chainsaws could not kill this guy currently. He would absolutely stomp denji as he is now. Even by the end of part 1 there’s only 2-3 characters that can go toe to toe with this man , he’s that crazy

The thought came to mind. So the “future devil” obvs can see the future so they know when you’re going to die and just cut that in half. But… does the devil tell you how much time you have? 😮. I have the manga but haven’t gotten past the katana man fight, but Im guessing the Sensei for Power and Denji is the one who gave up half his life span and that’s why he drinks so much cause he doesn’t care about his health. Another question comes to mind can he use this power consistently at anytime? And that’s why he knows when they’re going to attack him.
I think girl on the right missed that Arai already got shot in the neck once, before turning around and blocking the second, that could explain why she believes he “just turned around” and “just reacted”. No bro, dude already had a lead hole in his fucking trachea, I’m pretty sure he realized what was happening on account of the blood, the pain and the sound of a gun going off 2 meters behind him??? Contracts can be anything as long as both parties agree. However, the demons always have the advantage, after all, it is humans who need them and not the other way around, so they tend to charge a lot in their contracts. 'I' is always like the 'i' at the end of "hitatchi' 'e' is always like the e in 'nintendo' - Also the kanji in her name means, like Rural/Fields Princess: 姫 - means princess and 野 means rural/rustic/plains/fields/etc.

Man if they feel this torn up about Himeno, then I can’t wait for how they respond to this next person (who I don’t want to describe or name due to spoilers). I think that the entirety of part 1 is going to be in this first season, since this next arc is suppose to last like 3 episodes, which would be the remainder of the season and their is still a deceptively large amount of story left in part 1, so maybe a season 2?, but that would take them like another 2-4 years to animate, and that is without the other anime they are animating, such as attack on Titan and One punch man season III.
