    When you can bone in cold pack Chicken you are actually getting the best bone broth you can get right there. So much easier than prepping. Thank Linda. I have been a fan for years.

    I don't even cut my chicken up and if it is skin on, put that towards the glass and you won't get that residue. Great video and recipe idea!

    My grandmother always taught me if you put hot liquid into a glass it could crack. However if you put a metal knife or spoon in the glass container first the glass would never crack or break. Has worked me all these years since.

    I am so glad you did this taste test. I've been thinking I'm cheating with all the raw pack I do (but it's SOOOOO easy!) I still say any little difference in texture is worth it for all the time saved raw packing. Love your rice dinner idea, too.

    Hi, Linda. I'm new to this, just started this year. That tuna taste is something I had on my first batch of bone-in, skin on, raw pack chicken thighs. I didn't want to toss it, so had it with noodles and sauce, but very definite tuna taste. I found out that even fresh smelling chicken not past it's expiration date, this can happen because some packers use a soy additive to increase the protein. Since then, I've found I can "cook out" that tuna taste/smell by recooking the chicken and broth in a casserole dish (uncovered) in a 350F oven for about 40 mins. Comes out tender, and tastes like chicken.

    Your enthusiasm for your small (10.5 qt.) All American canned sold me me on the idea! I have been looking on the internet for quite some tiime. I found one (used) for $100. plus shipping. It arrived today!!!. I didn't even know that FedEx was working on this holiday. I can't wait to try some of your recipes, especially the Ugly Chicken. I didn't want too use my large Presto to make small batches so now I do not have to do that. Thank you so much for the small canner idea!

    Hi Linda, I had to chuckle because I popped in to check out different chicken thigh recipes for tomorrow and whalla! I heard words that I thought I would never. The raw packed chicken wins! I was getting ready to par cook again and now am going to raw pack it. Yeah, easy town. Definitely going to try the mustard, red onion and celery. Thank you!

    Well this is good to know! I do think it is the addition of broth that you are using though. I truly do. Because I know peoples complaints about canned packed chicken tasting fishy is that it’s packed in water also. So I’m definitely going to be doing this. But then also packing the chicken in chicken broth.

    Chicken snow!🤣
    I got a little of that “tuna” taste. Pretty sure it’s from over cooking. I’m just learning and I was so scared that I would drop below 11 lbs pressure that I got up to 14 for a while. Got it to come back down to 11-12, but I know it was over cooked. 😕

    Great video! I love chicken and rice but never though to add zucchini or other veggies! ( except broccoli of course!). I’m so glad you like ugly chicken now! It’s so much more easy and I love thigh meat better too! I wish I could find some with prices as good as breasts but, oh well!🤷🏼‍♀️.
    Funny, when I was younger, thighs were not as desirable, so they were cheaper than breasts! We really are a product of our own makings!

    So I'm confused between the park cooked chicken and the raw packed didn't you say your son said one of them tasted like tuna? How do you avoid the chicken from tasting like tuna?

    • @tinpony9424
      @tinpony9424 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this problem recently. Everything being clean, not expired, smells fresh...it can still happen because of protein (soy) being added by the processor/packing plant. I found out through trial and error that it can be used as is, or cooking the meat by itself (baking, heating on the stove, etc.) without a lid will get rid of that tuna taste and smell.

  • @caro4359
    @caro4359 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Now that the ugly chicken cook off is over, you could try beef or pork cook off!!

  • @cr3062

    So is it the raw pack of chicken breasts that tastes like tuna?

    • @tinpony9424
      @tinpony9424 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had this happen with thighs. It's still edible. I found that I can get rid of the tuna smell/taste by cooking just the chicken again (bake, stovetop, etc.).
      Using chicken that is not past it's expiration date, smells good, this can still happen because some packers use soy to boost the protein of the chicken.
