- This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Who gives a F**K about women in Sport?
Denise Watson has worked as a Sports Journalist and broadcaster for 20 years. During that time the former Basketball player was recognised as CIPR Sports Journalist of the year and has worked for BBC Sport both in NI and in London.

So having equal pay in tennis is step to “getting there”?
Men don’t just play a third longer, the competition is so much harder and there’s a lot more demand for men’s tennis. So they should get equal pay ? Makes no sense at all
I am a girl and do think that they should get the same, however I think they should get the same per set, for example if they got paid 1 dollar a set the men would get paid 5 and the woman would get paid 3, this makes it fair and rewarding for the men who do deserve a little more however it still needs to be fair. But I totally agree with you.

Yes. It makes sense that because they attract a larger audience etc that yes. Men are obviously going to get paid more.
But professional female athletes should be able to make a living out of their career. Many of them have to work second jobs. Like no. I’m not asking for the millions that many male athletes get paid but I personally think that it’s ridiculous that male athletes can earn like 50 peoples wages and women aren’t even payed enough to support themselves

That's not how the world works.
You want to make more money; have a skill set in a field that entitles you to make more money.
It's not rocket science.

Women can do sports and be very talented in sports too, so don't underestimate a woman. I am going to marry a fit woman who loves doing sports because I am a fit man who loves doing sports.

I don't get how most woman give out about nobody supporting it when it is women themselves who don't watch or partake in it. Also the top women tennis players can't even complete with the male teens. well it doesn’t help that they are so rarely on Tv. I struggle to find womans gymnastics on tv and that sports most known for the woman’s program
@@aveslay women's sport is on TV and it's growing. Basketball, football and of course tennis are the big one's. Megan Rapinoe is always giving out about men not supporting women's sport because she knows most women have no interest in watching it. Nothing wrong with that. If I've no interest in watching something then I won't watch it. Women have no excuse in today's media. The simple truth is they just don't want to watch women's sports and women who do enjoy basketball or football usually pick the male sport anyway as the quality is far higher.

Yes, women are as good in sports as men, because you constantly say so. Please abolish the segregation between men's leagues and woman's leagues, it's sexist! Same chance for every human athlete!

El Chefe yes i agree but if we gave an equal chance to both men and women by creating mixed teams, there would be more men in the team than women. Fact. And then people would start whining because "it's not equal" so basically what i'm saying is it would never work.

Any males that much smaller and weaker than me aren't interesting to watch compete, physically
And my brother played top D1 soccer as a goalie, but he's tiny and weak compared to me, even though he was te only one who strength trained with the football team, by necessity.

If anyone cared about women in sports then the actual women in sports wouldn’t be complaining about the so called inequity in pay and coverage of most women’s sports.

Women should focus more on developing women qualities... Like master cooking and looking after children. I don't see any point for women to compete in weight lifting or rugby etc. Waste of time and resources

Exactly. And another example of this is women in the military. Women can play sports but that’s not something that needs advocated for, especially at a high level. More resources should be put into helping women (along with their husbands) raise children.
