You got to think about the sheer damage that Kratos did to the Greek pantheon. He killed every single one and in turn destroyed that universe. In the new games he is in the Norse universe, and in turn will cause Ragnorak to happen and kill all these new gods. Well, I guess Loki will probably do it, but I digress. Kratos #1. In comparison to the effect Arthur Morgan had to the universe, he doesn’t even come close to Kratos. Arthur Morgan and Kratos do/will have something in common, they’ll die humble and seem more like a traditional hero, but never forget their roots. Those are the versions that are embedded into our hearts ♥️
Alex Mercer is such an underrated yet interesting complex character, maybe one of the best anti-heroes i've ever seen, they should really make a Prototype live action trilogy or animated series, the whole virus concept would make so much sense since what's been happening to our world today.
@@gravityfallscanada lmao, did someone shit in your food or something and you accidentally ate it 🤣. Only that can explain why you are so salty in the comments.
I would put Vergil instead of Dante really. Even though Dante feels like one big anti-hero, he’s still a hero cause he only kills demons, Vergil on the other hand kills anyone to get his goal achieved
I don’t think it’s God of War 2018 that conveyed Kratos as an anti-hero because in the final moments of GoW3 when Kratos opens Pendora’s Box in which away all the evils of the world and the power of Hope were sealed away by Zeus and Athena respectively, it was empty. It’s later revealed that when Kratos opened the box in the first game to defeat Ares, the evil escaped and corrupted the gods while Kratos was imbued with hope. When Athena demanded that he return her power of hope so that Athena could rebuild Olympus, Kratos refused and instead stabbed himself with the Blade of Olympus with the intension to kill himself so that humans could have the power of hope instead. I think that was the moment where Kratos truly became an anti-hero.
There was no chance that good old Shadow would be missed. Utilized by Eggman as an agent of chaos, saving the world, beating the snot out of aliens and robots alike as well as other anthropomorphic animals like Sonic and Knuckles... He even has a Super form for that matter. And those Inhibitor Rings on his wrists...? If he takes them off... Run.

You should have put Galen Marek from the Force Unleashed as well, he was Vader's secret apprentice before becoming the founder of the Rebel Alliance and at the beginning it was only to capture the Rebel leaders.
Ellie had to do the things he did. If she stayed in school she would be trained to be a soldier and she would die in a senseless battle. Riley got her out of school on time, but it only added to Ellie's pain and suffering. Only after this can we see how good and complex the game is and we can write about it here forever.
I'll be the first to admit that Joel was not a good person and we aren't meant to think he is. Early in the first game during the outbreak, he shows that by not stopping to pick up that desperate family during the outbreak (which I think was intentional character development to show us what kind of person he is). But I agree with his decision to save Ellie. They were not giving her a choice. They were going to do the surgery without even consulting her.
Estinien from Final Fantasy XIV should have deserved a spot on this list. His story bleeds anti-hero. Also: With your pick for GTA, Trevor from GTA5 would have been a fit for many of the same reasons; plus the tragedy his life becomes toward the end. Though a more well-rounded fit would have been Michael from the same game. It also would have been interesting to see someone from the Fallout franchise on this list. There are several to choose from, from Fallout 3 onward.
Kazuya Mishima from Tekken series could have been on this list. In the first game as the protagonist, sounds like it. Even though he became an antagonist in the next game after that and opposes his son Jin Kazama (the real protagonist of this game series) in the fourth game onwards, his motivation is still clear in wanting revenge against his father Heihachi Mishima for not only throwing him into the ravine, but also for killing his mother which both acts happened when he was a young boy. He successfully got his revenge on him in the seventh game.
The original list included Sly Cooper. I guess since he’s a thief not working with Interpol, of course that makes him an Anti Hero. But unlike the other anti heroes here, he is technically more easygoing.
I'm just saying, after nearly 30 years, complex, convoluted, and a little controversial. Umbrella Corporation nor Capcom themselves can soundly explain exactly why Ada does what she does. She makes being a good guy look more bad, and being bad look so good. Saving Leon and selling Wesker lesser stands, she makes Catwoman look like a neighborhood watch and could even give James Bond the slip. There's just something mysterious and borderline unnerving about the scarlet dressed woman who goes unscathed through apocalyptic events.
Even if I love Arthur Morgan (RDR 2 is one of my favorite video game of all time) I would put John Marston in the list instead. Arthur Morgan is almost a very good guy, but John Marston was really between a good and bad guy (he was willing to do anything possible to save his family even if it means killing innocent people). John Marston is with Joel Miller the best anti-hero in video game history.
Antiheroes might be a fancy word for villains or even mercenaries. Those who have no shame or no honor may even be considered to be an antihero. But are there more good antiheroes than bad antiheroes? Usually, I would be more like a defeatist if they want me to be an antihero. Still, it would be better to be a pacifist than a masochist. 😜 1. Harrier du Bois (Disco Elysium) 2. Vito Scaletta (Mafia II & Mafia III) 3. Travis Touchdown (No More Heroes) franchise 4. Alex Mercer (Prototype) 5. Martin Walker (Spec Ops: The Line) 6. Max Payne (Max Payne) franchise 7. Agent 47 (Hitman) franchise 8. Big Boss (Metal Gear) franchise 9. Booker Dewitt (BioShock: Infinite) 10. Edward Kenway (Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag) 11. Ada Wong (Resident Evil) franchise 12. Niko Bellic (Grand Theft Auto IV) 13. Joel Miller (The Last of Us) franchise 14. Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) 15. Kratos (God of War) franchise
1: I never really liked Mercer. Found it cathartic to kill him in the sequel. 2: Ralph, Lizzy, George from Rampage. And later, games the rest of the people-turned-monsters. Always been partial to Ralph, though. In the games that have stats, his tend to be the best balanced. While this does mean that he's maybe not as strong in some areas, it also means that he rarely suffers from bad stats in any category. But I've always liked that the balance to that is that he's often the most unhinged-looking one of the main trio. 3: Sebastian Castellanos from The Evil Within. When he realizes he's basically hooked up to a VR system, he views it more like a videogame goes all action hero on the baddies, because he realizes it's not actually real.
Although all mentions have their place i'm surprised series like Warcraft/ World of Warcraft with Arthas or Gul'dan, or Witcher series with Eredin, Caleb Menge and others didn't make the cut.
A few videogame antiheroes that deserve a spot on this list: - Death from "Darksiders" series: The Leader of the Horsemen is one of the most feared and loathed beings in Creation, bares titles as Executioner and Kinslayer, is responsible for at least genocides, one used to create weapons of mass destruction and believes only one being in the universe has done worse things than him. Nevertheless, where his brother War sees killing as a duty, his brother Strife sees it as a solution and sister Fury disturbingly enough sees it as a pass time, he sees it as an art form and he loves his work. - Nick Mason from "Urban Chaos: Riot Response": this T-Zero officer is walking police brutality, who is only a hero because of gangsters he is up against the Burners are nihilistic murderers with zero mercy for anyone who doesn't wear a hockey mask. And sure, he arrested plenty of people along the way but if any hostage situation either ends in dismemberment, explosion, crushing (in one level you get the choice to let the dude live but you can easily kill him brutally and still gets cheers.) - Rico Rodriguez from "Just Cause" series: One of the Agency top mercenaries who toppled dictatorships by causing massive death (with plenty of civilian casaulties), grand scale environmental destruction and supporting local gangs, all for Uncle Sam's best interest. As (at least in the first 3 games) each dictator signed their death warrants by letting go their dealings with the US. Rico is an psychotic and sadistic soldier with little mercy and a great talent for causing havoc.
