It's wonderful - I especially like the "tensioner" pullies, pulling him almost around the corner of the window, as if he's sneaking out of sight once he goes into the barn! VERY well done!
That's the best flying ghost I've seen, and I've watched a lot of video's on these! I wish you provided more details about the motor, control switch and the setup, but thats a near perfect ghost and I'm now inspired to create my own. Halloween is coming, we must prepare!
Nice ! I've done a couple . A different tack was a BBQ spit motor .... thread the inside of the square drive , add an 8" angle bracket with a bolt 1/2 way ... add flat black , light tin or cheap PVC pipe , length to your liking to swivel DIAMETER .. add 2 ghosts (on at each end , mine were 4" Styrofoam balls , cardboard "wings" loosely wrapped in an open weave tafida(sp) . THIS setup stood on adjustable sawhorses atop a pitched roof....a Black Light below was boxed with an open top . EFFECT : GHOSTS WOULD APPEAR AND DISAPPEAR AS THEY ROUNDED OVER THE BLACK LIGHT . NICE EFFECT . By the way , I retired from building/decorating last year ! THANKS FOR THE FINE VIDEO !👍🏼
telescoping wheel up the tree, brilliant. A triangle, or multiple point turn would be a smoother transition in direction as well as allowing multiple ghosts on the line. Weaving through trees would be creepy too, more so than simply flying overhead back and forth. I think flying to the back of the barn was a waste of string length, but flying through the window was an awesome idea. Well done sir!
Ashley, this is really nicely done! One of the best I've seen. Flying into the barn that way is truly inspired. You have a great venue for a party with that big yard and the barn. Would love to see some night time video, that's when mine always looked the best. Kudos for making it work so well, it is a really tough prop to get tuned so that it is reliable. My original AFG went all the way around my house, it had some elevation changes and tight spots to fly through. Wind and/or rain would usually cause it to fail. My plants and trees have grown so much since the last time I set it up, I don't think it would work now. Again, well done!
Hahahahaha I did this exact same thing about 25 or 30 years ago. I got permission from the people across the street to let me attach a small pulley to the edge of their garage. I used fabric fishing line dyed black, used a heater fan from an old car as the motivator. The motor was mounted in my attic, in fact I bet it's still there, lol. Anyway the ghost I made from a sheet and a balloon inside for the head. It was manually controlled so I had to sit in the attic and wait for people to go by below. When energized it flew out the window from the attic crossed the street and flew back into the window. It was a great effect but the downrange pulley I used made a little noise so it gave it away to anyone really paying attention. The flight speed was just about perfect though.
I love this version! I am about to build my 1st version. 1. I have a 1/2 horse motor from the 50's. It is probably 50lbs. I've seen this made with wiper motor. 2. I'm going to use braided fish line. Way less stretch. 3. I'm going to use an offset hanger similar to a chairlift. This should allow for line guides at the wheels and in the middle of the run if necessary.
Best flying ghost I have seen! Awesome the way the tension pulleys pull the ghost to one side or the other, makes the movement much more realistic. I so want to build one of these.....but I am DIY illiterate 😖
I love this video. You've shared with us what the axworthy ghost looks like in the daytime, now you should let us see what it looks like when it's dark outside.
I agree with Bob Rainy. A few more details would be so helpful. We've had several failed attempts with flying ghosts that we're almost ready to give up. This video keeps the hope alive but only for a short period. Definitely need more info to keep the interest and attempt to try again.
Sure ... the most critical thing is the motor ... I experimented with several different motors and finally bought one at a 1/2 HP motor at an electric motor / repair shop ... I will look for the specs on the motor tomorrow and post them for you. Other important items are the fishing line (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071129KFN/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and the speed controller (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BLOSG7I/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). The hardware for the brackets and pulleys all came from Home Depot and Lowes. The bicycle wheels came from 2 bikes that I got at Good Will. I am skipping doing this again this year as I will be out of town but next year I will make some improvements. One improvement I will make is to use a slightly larger diameter bicycle wheel for the drive assembly ... the larger wheel along with the current 1" pulley on the drive motor should enable me to slow the speed down a little more ... I did do a lot of testing ... I had a lot of failures ... but I made progress and learned something new with each test until I finally got over the hump and got that ghost to fly consistently over several hours.
HAHA, that was awesome! The triangle idea is good and maybe adding a second lin next time so several ghosts could criss-cross across the area too? Great job!!
The bike wheels are a great idea, they allow the ghost to be directional and continuously going. Mine only went out and back controlled by a manual switch. The ghost wasn't directional like yours so it didn't really have a face. I suppose a long trailing piece of fabric would have turned it like the tail on a kite. Well it was just a thrown together one night thing.
After watching your flying ghost machine I built one for our Halloween Display. I just uploaded my build video to TH-cam. Special Thanks are in my video, Cheers Blair
Thats pretty cool mr. Ashley ! Put 2 at half way point , that way you get 1 coming and 1 going . On the 2nd one , put a wicked witch of the west on a broom . If you record the sound of a witch and a ghost and blast it ? It will be awesome and don't forget the fog machine . Thanks / awesome !
Great job but try this next year. Extend ghost's (get some more and add those pullies!) arms out to Superman flying position, mount woods pulley on the end of a long galvanized pipe and strap it to tree to minimize ladder work, add a graveyard scene with some tombstones and fog machine with igloo chiller to hug ground. Your setup has endless possibilities! Halloween is AWESOME!!!!!
Sooo cool! I know its fishing string but how is it attached directly to the ghost without causing the ghost to spin freely? A special knot or directional fastner to keep it facing forward? Thanks!
The ghost loops around the bike wheels and has two lines connecting it to the main line so as it goes around the bike wheel it faces in the opposite direction. Going and coming it faces the direction of travel. Nice.
Excellant job! Wow, that's a great run for the ghost. Fishing line? I'm amazed that the thing doesn't de-rail much at all! That's cool....I could never keep mine on the bike rims.
I USED FISHING LINE LIKE A STRINGER WITH MILK JUGS COVERED WITH WHITE MATERIAL IN THE TOP OPENING I HAD SOLAR LIGHTS LIGHTING IT UP AND UP THERE WIND CHANGES DIRECTION 3 LINES GOING BACK AND FORTH AT NIGHT 75 FEET AWAY FROM COMMON AREA . WORKED REALLY WELL AT NIGHT
Only thing that would have made this better, would be to have installed a fog machine at the opening of the barn, backlight it with blue lights... That thing coming out of a lighted smoky barn loft hole, would be phenomenal... Great job!!
Why did it take almost 2 years for youtube to recommend this video! This is BEYOND Awesome! Great work.
I'm wondering the same thing
Your lucky it took me 6 years
This is hands down the best one I've ever seen! Thank you so much for sharing him!
It's wonderful - I especially like the "tensioner" pullies, pulling him almost around the corner of the window, as if he's sneaking out of sight once he goes into the barn! VERY well done!
Ya that little movement really has a tremendous effect
agree!! This is pretty sweet.
Yep, thought the same thing
Excellent job! I love how the ghost appears to make an immediate turn as he reenters the barn window; really cool!
I would like to see the ghost at night time as well, very cool set up! Great job!
You did a great job with this project.

Im a Disney Artist and I think this video is BEYOND AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! I absolutely LOVE IT!!!!
I wish I lived next door to you. No one in my neighborhood decorates for holidays except me. Your ghost kicks major butt. Nice job.

I’d like to find a heavier test line to have a flying witch at a higher speed rate if possible.
Great work! I hope you're doing it again this year, and you get some night footage of it.

This is so neat. I wish I had been one of the people who had seen this in action at night. Thank you so much for sharing your set up.
This is great!!!
Glad you were in my feed.
Thank you for sharing.
I subscribed.

@@ashleydavies2113 Thank You!
Great job on you're ghost and thanks for sharing. 👻
Awesome... we need more people like this guy ... Thanks for the inspiration
Looks awesome! I'd love to do this next year, but my motor would have to be outdoors somewhere, guess i'd need to cover it somehow for weather.
Very nice build! I wanted to build one this year but never got all the kinks worked out. Maybe I'll have it working for next year.
Wow, that is pretty cool
I am thoroughly impressed !!! Well done !!!
Thanks so much for this. This is my first search as I want to do this with a witch in front of my house next year.
HAHA, that was awesome! The triangle idea is good and maybe adding a second lin next time so several ghosts could criss-cross across the area too? Great job!!
This is awesome, love the barn.
How am I just now seeing this?! Great stuff!
This is epic! What a great effect, I'm sure everyone loved it!

Dang... now I have to go build a barn
Me too and plant trees!!🏚🌳

Can you show how to make this step by step?(: amazing work!
I think the video is pretty detailed on all of the materials I used ... I am happy to answer any specific questions you might have ...
Nice work my friend hi from mexico
Great job. If you do it again, please get some video of it at night!
I was wondering why TH-cam recommended this? Then I was like SWEET!!!!!
Would like to see this at night
