- HAPPY SEPTEMBER Y'ALL! To kick off spooky season, it's time to freak my neighbors out even MORE! You have been tagging me in these chicken wire "yard ghosts", so of COURSE I had to give it a try. I wanted to make my own little dancing Victorian lady. Many scratches and some swole wrists later, here she is!!!

Solution for the storage issue: leave her in the ivy and let it grow over her, it’ll add spook factor as she gets reclaimed by nature and eventually it will look like you have a plant human in your ivy

I've noticed a lot of really artistically talented women on TH-cam say this and of course it turns out great. It's a bit annoying to me because they have a lot of knowledge and skill, a lot of natural talent and a good foundation for anything to do with crafting. Yet they always diminish it. It's not relatable in case they think that's what they're doing. And it sounds like they won't acknowledge just how good they are at something. Which is something this entire gender tends to do and we shouldn't.

I became an expert in sculpting with chicken wire in highschool because each class made elaborate giant dioramas according to a theme. The key is to use pliers for everything and only bend slightly little bits at a time to shape it.
Rachel: “It’s hard to get good detail with this wire.”
Also Rachel: *proceeds to create great detail with this wire*
Me everyday : “I have no idea what I’m doing”

Actually, that was a surprisingly successful wire sculpture. The more you stare at it, while you move around it, the more it starts to suggest details - like facial features - that aren't really there. And that is what makes it feel ghostly. It's nicely proportioned, with nice flowy bits in the dress... Great job!
P.S. I was going to do my own wire sculpture (here in Western Massachusetts) earlier this summer, as in, putting chicken wire around the garden to keep out the rabbits, but the neighbor's cat killed all the rabbits, so I ditched the idea... after buying all the chicken wire.
I don't dare use the wire to make a ghost, for fear of being inundated by rabbits next year.
But if the rabbits don’t come back… ghost time!!!

@@Esther-ehwe had a dog who did not allow anything in her ⅛th acre yard. She started with a robin as a puppy, then anything that *dared* enter-squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, even a snake ☹️

@@readmachine18 she did make a dress form in the spiderman video, but Betty isn't a replica of that. Betty was just a mannequin she found online. (not to be crass, but Betty's not as well-endowed in the chest area as Rachel. so, that's further proof lol) also, I'm pretty sure it would be insanely expensive to get a custom mannequin made. dress forms are different: they're meant to be a person's exact size because they're used to drape clothing. mannequins are just supposed to be glorified clothes hangers (she usually uses Betty to display her Wonder Woman costume)

Yes. The people at my uni campus dressed the statue of Confucius in a variety of seasonal outfits. He looked so cheerful in a Santa hat.

talk about getting down to the wire on this one, but as always, you managed to shape up another beautiful craft! I spray painted mine with glow-in-the-dark paint, and now my neighbors hate me
You-are-a-frickin-genius. I'll probably do this for Halloween to prank my friends and I was wondering how the heck I was going to make it light up since I'm not great at figuring out electrical stuff, but this idea fixes it. Glow in the dark spray paint. Genius. Thank you😂

I love the fact that the pumpkin umbrella is still living in the back of Rachel's car - it comes very close to my level of autumn enthusiasm. And the wire lady is making me want to make myself my own ghost, even though I don't have any garden. To conclude, spooky season is here and I am here for it and all of Rachel's content!

Can I just say I'm also loving the slow progression of Binx being increasingly present and cuddly on camera!
After seeing this ghost lady, I first thought of those sort of train track things you can buy for yard decorations that will move lightweight decorations around on small routes.
Imagine if you made several dancing ghosts and then got some of those tracks and set them to carry the dancing couples around in a circle. That would look amazing at night in the yard.
The struggle that rachel is having with "wide holes" is the same that trying to put too much detail in a low poly mesh while you're doing 3d modeling XD

It looks stunning, you did amazingly!! I had to do wayyyy too many chicken wire projects while in my sculpture class so this is giving me wonderful memories to that!! It's 100% more finicky than one would think.
This turned out, to quote Madam Maksey herself, "frikkin adorable!" And I think this counts as a one day make! Nicely salvaged, and YES I too shall be cracking out fall stuff as soon as possible.
So cool! How about considering spray painting her with glow-in-the-dark paint for extra spooky vibes? You could always respray her white if you don't like it :-)
Adding: maybe spray paint her glow in the dark but patchily, on purpose, so not all of her glows or glows with the same intensity! Added spookiness guaranteed I would think

Becoming a mother taught me that it's not 'rewearing' if it's 'still wearing.' When one child gets sick it'll be at least 36 hours before I get to change clothes again. And she looks great pumpkin spooky as is, so it's good to know that she looks even better in person!
Dear After-October Rachel: why store her? I think with the right accessory, the ghost becomes a Victorian Christmas Ghost. 🎄. Then Next-Year Rachel can deal with storage.

I worked with chicken wire in my sculpture class in uni and it's loads of fun 😊 You do get scratched at lot, but I find it so rewarding to be able to make massive shapes with such a cheap and accessible material!

@@brendaleelydon I've heard people in my neck of the woods(New England) calling those Sept/Oct hot spots "Indian Summers" And yes I was literally just debating with my family today if we should put away the air conditioner or not too. Edit: I Googled Indian Summers, it originates from Boston, so most likely a local jargon that other people never heard of, like Nor'easters.

I, as many others, also have wanted to do this for YEARS! Only I want to also spray paint it with glow in the dark spray paint. @@becauseimafan You'd need a blacklight to make that glow-in-the-dark paint pop (I mean, unless you're setting up a spotlight that turns on for a minute, then off for a few to activate the paint. Which could be a cool feature...). And if you're using a blacklight, you can also use other blacklight-responsive paints in your yard (or where ever you're setting your ghostie up) & have fun accent colors poppin'!

When you started, I have my doubts, the wire didn't look like a good material to work with. But girl, you delivered as always, she looks amazing! Miss Clackwire will be a sensation of the season.
As someone who works with chicken wire frequently (thankfully the galvanized sort, which has been out in the elements for 8 years now without rusting), constructing (and teaching volunteers to construct) browse protection cages to save tree and shrub seedlings from getting nibbled by deer before they are large enough to survive that treatment), I was so relieved to see you don gloves and when you mentioned that you were folding in the sharp edges!

I can tell you 2:50 that noise your car is making is called the AC/cooler door activator knocking.. a few of my cars had the same issue.. if you have AC working in your car expect it to go out fairly soon if it's even working

That is from Adam Savage's youtube channel Tested. He mocked one up in an episode. Based on the feedback from his subscribers, he ended up offering one via his merch store. Its really cool because it is open at the bottom to be clipped around your legs so it doesn't catch on stuff. Given Rachel's affection for all things swirly in terms of skirts, I'm not sure she will get a lot of use out of that function?? But, maybe she will be able to find things when sewing if she gets used to putting them in her apron?
And you just gave me the most awesome idea! My mom loves roses and I want to make her a chicken wire rose for her yard. A big one.

So lovely!! She's wondrous. Using a finer mesh chicken wire would have probably been easier to manipulate but I like how She's much more see through with the larger holes!
