What type of speed can you make? What is a good cruising speed?

Hi Jeff...cruising speed is 5-6 knots. To push it faster than that is a fuel waster. Usually around .5 to .75 GPH.

@@johnfaison3686 Thank you for the response John! Could you make 10 knots if you wanted to? Guessing you have plastic portable fuel (gas) tank(s)? How much fuel can you have onboard total? What is your range? Professionally I work aboard a yacht that has 2,000 mile plus range. It's fun to day dream and plan about cruising on my own small boat, on my own terms ;-)

6-7 mph is more normal. It has a 24 gal holding tank. At this speed, it varies, it is .9 gal per hour. So the range is 20 gal (you don't want to run out) times hour/.9 gal times 7 miles/hour =155 miles per tank. Typically there is a 3 to 5 gal spare gas tank aboard too.

@@tonkacaptainsince the hull cannot plane, it is generally limited to the hull speed which is somewhere around 6.6 knots. It’s a matter of physics, essentially when the front wake and the rear wake combine, that is the point when the boat starts trudging through the water, and due to the shape it will never plane. I’m a sailor, and hull speed is a big deal in our world. Sailboats can cheat and get above hull speed, but conditions need to be right. For a motor boat, it’s another story. Hope I helped.

Between 20 and 35 K. There is the condition, of course, but the hulls are usually very good. plus air conditioning, auto pilot, radar, TV, instruments and all the other amenities (very customizable) added over 30 years.
