    I bet that's an eerie feeling, knowing you're that far out in the ocean on a platform in the middle of the ocean's fury.

      @@FPTower as a commercial fisherman (scalloper) i will have to say the feeling isn't eerie, to me. i love it. you don't know what i would give you to be able to live on the tower year round. i love the ocean, especially when it gets rough. people see this video & would think 20 footers aren't big. they don't look big in this, because you're way above them. what they need to understand: that's a 2 story wave w/ the power that's almost unmatched to anything else.
      I wonder if there have ever been any rogue waves hit the tower? We got a 35 footer hit us late last year in November. That was a ride!

    I remember back in '78 during which we were taking on some 12 foot + swells, I was making a sandwich in the galley (kitchen for you land lubbers) of the Tower & the sandwich was swaying back & forth on the countertop. However Neil, those are definitely some Heavy swells! Wow!
    Speaking of Bad Weather... one time we were going through a some tropical weather & during the wee hours of the night I woke up with the sound of a Freight Train, ZOOMING underneath our quarters!... I got a frantic knock on my door to get up! I said: "I'm already up"! We went to the radio room to see that the Anemometer was up to 80 knots!

    How does the Full Moon look out there?
    (pretty amazing eh)?

    • @FPTower
      @FPTower  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yep we were out there a couple months ago and our anemometer on the very top stopped pointing to the direction of the wind because that part of it blew off in 87 mile an hour gusts. The air cups survived and we are carrying out a new anemometer and a spare for the closet. Remember those old anemometers at the very very top? The props on the front of those are missing but they still point into the wind!

    I would love to volunteer here over the summer but I’m only 14. Well 15 for when summer comes when I want to volunteer. I’m small and can get in tiny spaces. I have a burning passion for the ocean, and this is something I would love to do and it could count towards my graduation from high school. I could also use a go pro and take footage to show my whole school. That would be good for an extra curricular project lol.

    I would love vist someday. Living on the beach, I know what salt air and water can do to metal. I think I would be leery of the integrity of your walkways, handrails, pylons etc.. How often do you inspect them?

    That wave breaking out in front in this footage, is that common at at that spot at this size or just a random occurrence?
