- After 216 hours and 3 years, it's over. My first RTA world record in the category that got me into speedrunning. Thank you to everyone in the DKR community who has helped me get to this point.

I remember Wiz Pig being so difficult and how I had to hit pretty much every single speed booster just to stay barely ahead of him. The fact that you almost lapped him is insane

That clip to start it all off with the Wiz Pig race.. gosh that’s mind blowing. Always wondered if you could do that as a kid, didn’t realize it would involve clipping into the beach but yeah that was incredible

I'm guessing that in order for this category to work you are dependant on entering Dragon Forest in a plane during the Trophy Races? (Like you did at 32:42?) I'm guessing that you otherwise wouldn't be able to enter any of the races in Dragon Forest as your number of balloons would be too low?
Yes, getting the "Dragon Plane" result of the wrong warp is crucial to getting an optimal any% run. The exact odds aren't known, but it's around a 10% chance to get that result when doing the wrong warp, and on a optimal run you only have 3 chances to get it. That means most runs past the initial Dino Domain section will end from not getting this 10% chance in one of your three wrong warps.
This is also why top runs on any% are done on Japanese (JP) because the wrong warp can give us this Dragon Plane result, allowing us to skip the 16 balloon requirement to open Windmill Plains (the lowest balloon door in Dragon Forest.) On the other versions of DKR where the wrong warp doesn't crash the game, the only result of the wrong warp is being sent to the overworld on the Taj mat. Runs using those versions of the game require you to get at least 16 balloons to open the Windmill Plains door to get your Dragon Forest Trophy during Trophy Storage.
