Developer: Night Dive Studios
Platform: PC
Difficulty: Easy
Sub 30:10 is possible. Sub 30? Probably not.
This took me a long time to achieve. A lot of runs. I'm very happy with this time, but I'd love to get a sub 30:10 before I'm officially done with this route.
Huge shoutouts to Pale2 ( / pale2 ) for giving me motivation, supporting me and coming up with a lot of these awesome strats. Please check him out, he's one hell of a Turok speedrunner.
I lost approximately 3 seconds to Canyon in this run and didn't get the lowering pillar Purlin clip in level 6. Those two things fixed would've made this sub 30:10 easily.
For now, I'll keep grinding this game every now and then, but I'd really love to hop on Turok 2.
Thanks for watching.

After almost 30 years I saw level 2 for the first time LOL
I feel that, haha!
This game blew my mind as a kid. The music, weapons, gore, enemies, levels, bosses, and turok himself. Really wish they'd give turok the doom 2016 treatment
It really does deserve a reboot/remake with today’s tech.
That's what I've been saying. ❤
The music is so catchy, but i was never good at Turok 1, just Turok 2 lol
No
Majority of my childhood years I played this game and this guy surpassed me within his first 3 minutes lmao
Pretty much me as well lol
Guess you didnt have the Game pack thing as well for your controller?
Watching this guy do parkour in a game that took me forever. Also, looking back, I really like how this game had a very wide angle view from the first person perspective. Seems wider than some modern FPS, or is it just me? Edit: oh wait, this is the remastered version, okay makes sense now
I Thought They Were Speed Running These Games On A Nintendo 64. Either Way GODLY!
It’s the pc with fov slider. Weapon position can’t change.
That fist knife slicing and scream right at the beginning had me dying 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This game was such a pain to navigate. I loved the graphics and atmosphere and it was the 1st N64 game I played. Seeing you speed run this game is mind boggling.
15:34 That jump...
Once again you've done it, you seriously deserve way more recognition for this. Congrats, King of Turok!!!
I love this guys use of the checkpoint system. like at 14:36 he fell into the pit so he could go to the checkpoint outside because it was quicker to just die than to walk all the way out.
Yeah thats a common speedrun technique in many games called „death abuse „
14:44
I remember back in the day every kid on the rez had a copy of this game, and Mario Kart, because Turok was that dude. Good times
Now we know what truly killed the dinosaurs - this guy.
How do humans do this? Insane.
Gotta know the game inside and out
Substituting a complete lack of a social for this.
Lack of social, motor, and life skills
@@mattjennings6706 Social is over rated anyway
@@TheOfficialMelendez motor skills are just fine, unless you're talking about fixing actual motors well then...
The sound effects of this game are very polished!
The sound he makes when he falls to his death *perfection*
Uff insane. Game of my childhood.
this game seems so long i remember as a kid never making it past the first 2 or 3 raptors, but still so iconic
I had NO IDEA the rocket launcher had a secondary gun. :O
It doesnt. He was using a glitch that let him fire with the auto shotgun without having to do the weapon pull out/put away animation
Oh damn, nice.
Took a long time for me to finally see a speedrun of this game. Seeing as this was played on an older patch, it makes me wonder which of the tricks and glitches shown in the video are still possible to be executed on the current patch. You really made me want to mess around with the game a little and find out.
I know a glitch for 10:52 , If you jump toward stairways ceiling at the moment of entering the door, you go down much faster
I loved doing that.
holy smokes! GG Mr. Kasei, sir.
"They called him Turok... A play on the words "two rocks" because he would always smoke two crack rocks before venturing out onto his rampages."
I'd hate to be the dealer that sells turok some bunk shit LOL
This gameOST was 🔥🔥🔥
I was playing this remake casually the other day having a really great time and I thought: This would make an awesome speed game... And yep. It does. Great run!
RIP to the enemies he just zooms by and kills without stopping lol
Hell of a run! All I remember about playing this is being lost and getting the big guns in the end.
This is an epic run , what a game this was when it came out, as good as Goldeneye.
It’s hilarious the C button strife makes you move so much faster than just walking straight
Like Goldeneye aye
This is crazy mesmerizing
Still one of best soundtracks ever made 4:10
Thought the same at that moment
Damn this game is huge
Never say never, Sub 30 is definitely possible.
disfrute mucho este speedrun, un master.
That level is HUGE
Bro, when this came out, there was nothing even remotely close to this scale, it was insane and blew all our little minds.
5:50 heart attack
The environments are really cool esp the temples and big structures
How the hell are you going that damn fast ???
Strafe
Like it was yesterday on the N64, I always watched dad play this. And jet force gemini and load runner 64
Hey man good run
This game was a big part of my childhood. I had a PlayStation and my neighbor had N64 so I would go over to play turok and other N64 games and he would come over to my house to play PlayStation !!
15:35 talk about a leap of faith...
Do people still run the PC version that came out in the 90s or has that been totally obsoleted by the versions that got remastered and eventually put on Xbox and Switch?
I can't think of a reason to choose the original PC version over the Nightdive Studios remaster.
Did you try Turok remaster by Nightdive? How bad they've screwed up the movement, in your opinion?
In level 5 the catacombs at the part during 10:53 if you time it just right you can kind of "zip line" down off from the ceiling by jumping and holding jump. Not sure if you knew or not. Its kind of tricky sometimes but its able to work. Have to jump and hold it as soon as you start down the stairs while pressing forward.
I am pretty sure that only works in the Nintendo 64 version as I used to do that all the time with that and also the ending hallway before you face The Campaigner. On the PC version I have not been able to do it. Maybe I'm wrong but I've tried heaps.
It doesn't work in the pc version :(
I literally did this by accident today, So I can confirm it works on PC
Super gemacht
This game terrified me as a kid and I have no idea why.
Insane 💪💪💪🙌🙌🙌
Im assuming this is pc right? If so can people do this or close to this on the N64 version?
WHen I rented this as a kid, I was shocked at how large the levels were! Then the frustration of getting lost, dying constantly, the super unfair enemies that just waste you in seconds, I love the game but I cannot stress just how HARD this fucking game was! I never beat it without cheats. Then turok 2 came out and you could blow enemies arms off and shoot holes through them! That was revolutionary back then.
9:29 double nice
How do you kill enemies with just a normal arrow? If you shoot in the head with it is it instakill? or something like that?
Holding the arrow for 2 seconds allows it to insta-kill any non-boss enemy besides specific robotic ones.
I think you have to wait until the little bit of golden light glimmers on the arrow tip?
cant you jump over that checkpoint at 22:46 ?
Turok: Awesome
Turok 2: seeds of Evil : awesome
As a 13-14 year old kid I never understood the magnitude of this game's levels. They are so huge and easy to get lost in.
Hey if you want a faster speed run at 10:54 if you jump and hold the jump button you can just glide down thise stairs. Im actually surprised some people dont know this. Use to do it on the N64 all the time. Should work for most long decents in the game. Hope it helps with the time my dude!
nice run you could save 1 sec in catacombs if you jump the stairs in the begining and hold up and left youll jump right down
I never knew there was a pc version of this. I had it on the n64 and it was ok.
super gut
Why does it seem that people on speedruns, literally run faster? Is there a running buff on or something?
In this case, it's the FOV most likely! I play at 120 FOV, which gives off the fisheye effect. It also brings the illusion of going faster.
@@KaseiSpeedruns Hm! Thank you for your response! Very, very interesting!
He's also strafe runs which makes turok go fast as fuck
Turok gotta go fast
It would appear that Sonic is Turok's spirit animal.
So is wrong-warping a thing in this game? I went into a blue portal on Level 2 (The Jungle) and the exit portal within took me straight to the Campaigner fight. I did this just last night on my original N64 copy of the game (not a remaster, emulation, etc.) and at first I thought the game had frozen upon entering the portal because it did a weird visual tear and stopped refreshing for a couple seconds. After those couple of seconds, all the visuals disappeared for not even a full second, then it faded back in to load the portal stage as usual. I proceeded through the portal stage, reached the exit portal, and when I went through I was at the Campaigner instead of my original position in Level 2. Has this ever happened to you or anyone else reading this?
I wonder if some memory glitch happened and I'm really curious to see if it can be replicated. It seems totally plausible that if proper RNG manipulation could be used (even unknowingly) then the portals that pop up randomly could teleport you to different places than originally intended, but this is the first time this has ever happened to me so I'm very curious to see if it's already known and/or viable for speedrunning. Seems like it could be a huge game changer if it could be replicated. Idk if it's relevant but the portal stage in question was a really short one, just some pillars in the center surrounded by a receded electric moat with four swinging blades dangling from the ceiling, requiring you to time your jumps to reach the large health pickup in the center.
I think it fixed a bunch of bugs like this I remember, when I was a kid I used the fly cheat and flew straight up on the jeep boss fight and it took me straight to the end boss
Yes for me when I was on the main menu and if you waited for like a minute, it would show a gameplay of different levels, I would wiggle the cartridge just lightly until the game froze, then I would turn off and on the N64 rapidly and it would instantly take me to the level of the gameplay preview and have all the weapons
0:25 is this a different version of Turok 1? Every console/emulator I've ever played all had the same layout which is drastically different from what yours is showing
It's the remastered version released by Night Dive Studios for Steam. It alters the level design slightly in a few levels, namely the first, fourth and sixth.
@@KaseiSpeedruns ahh that makes sense
So I'm not fucking crazy. That auto shotgun secret climbable wall in level 1 right near the beginning is totally removed in the remaster!!! I looked for it for at least an hour then started thinking I was fuckin nuts or something!!!
What hack you use?
Why the fuck was I playing this game at 7 years old lmaooo. I never stood a chance.
Me neither.
Dude flying
good old times..
How he can run in that way? I’ ve this game for Nintendo 64 , I suppose he played from M&K
Nice 👍
By the screenshot it's a Knifey-only any% run
Holy shit
You still speedrunning? How you doing?
How do you pull out two guns?
This was a trick that only worked in patches prior to 1.4.6. You don't get the functionality of two weapons out at once, but it skips the animation that occurs when swapping from one weapon to another.
To trigger it in previous patches, you had to start firing one weapon and on the first shot, press the hotkey for whatever weapon you're swapping to. After 9 shots, this glitch would trigger.
Does anybody know what happened to this channel ?
OMG how much did u played with this as a child ?
why running in diagonal tho? do you run faster?
Running forward while strafing sideways makes you move faster, yes.
I tried to shot a lots on the first boss before i kill the cars, and it was not possible, because he had some kind of shield that make him invulnerable.
16:30 what happened? Splice?
Either way goddamn I love this game
The inside part of the tree lacks collision; you can just jump straight through it near the top!
How are you zooming so fast?
Strafing. Speed doesn't cap if you're holding two inputs
@@cornjeebus thanks for the reply. Somtimes I feel like a ghost
This makes me think of the worst possible 3D platformer/FPS speedrun game to try. Where tilting the camera back and forth is the most efficient strategy.
Making it look like you're playing a drunk and gives every speedrunner tons of headaches every attempt.
There's an option to turn it off...
Moving so fast YT compression algorithm can't keep up
They should release turok evolution on ps
Wait, you could kill the hunter before the Humvee's? I shot him many times with the Chronoscepter and he never died ... always had to destroy the Humvee's first.
It seems Theres a little cheat 😂
Knives ignore shielding
this speedrun gave me anxiety
Is sub 30 humanly possible?
Before FPS got bastardized. I miss the raw freedom games of that era had.
Turok map design is like hexen but it's actually fun. I didn't fully get into hexen until I was 30 frikin years old that's how fuckin ridiculous that game is!
Beat Hexen when I was 10, those were the good ol days. Took me forever! The game is very confusing if you don;t understand what is going on.@@IMN602
Also, how the Hell did you one-shot a Triceratops?
Hey! For Longhunter, it seems his hitbox is only vulnerable to explosive shots, such as explosive shells, tek arrows and grenades when the cars are still alive. You can shoot him tons with those and when his model freezes its animations, that's when you know he's dead. This queues up the cutscene where the key becomes available. Since you trigger a cutscene when you die, both of those cutscenes will play in sequence thus giving you access to the key without ever harming the cars.
As for the oneshots you see, they are performed by using a hidden mechanic that involves pulling a normal arrow (not tek arrow!) for a short time (like 1 second) before firing it. This will cause it to instantly kill any non-mechanical and boss enemy in one hit. If you want to test it yourself, stand completely still and pull an arrow. You'll see a little glow on the tip of the arrow, that's your moment to fire.
This game was my nemesis when I was a kid. I'm happy to see it get absolutely destroyed.
I watch thes 4 a quick memory
Of tha stages n music
Gameplay is Alright but how
Baha
Ahh back when bs invisible walls didn't exist
waos
Is TAS?????
Boah😲mega
You are a GOOOOOOOOOOD
I don't understand how he's running so fast. Glitch? Mod? Exploit?
Someone answer please!
Hey! Are you referring to the general movement speed? Turok, like other retro shooters has movement coded a little funky. We run diagonally through the run, meaning two movement inputs is being made. The game doesn't exactly cap the speed of my movement at all, so holding two inputs just adds more speed on top of eachother.
@@KaseiSpeedruns cool thanks for the info!
Шедеврально! Но ничерта не понятно что и как и как в этом вообще можно разобраться?)
Why is golden eye the more popular n64 shooter?
Simple multiplayer and the movie popularized it. Easier to get people to play a 007 game than it is a dinosaur/evil powers game
Why is he running sideways tho
6:20 i’m sorry what?
Longhunter has a shield that protects him from everything but explosives when a car is active, meaning we can use Explosive Shells and Tek Arrows to kill him before killing the cars! You know he's dead when his model freezes in place.
Then, we die to the car because the game doesn't check for Longhunter's specific death cutscene to spawn in the key. It simply checks for any cutscene to play when he's dead - so we abuse that fact by dying and triggering the respawn cutscene. This fight is super luck heavy, as you have to rely on the car dealing enough damage to kill you quickly, while also not killing you instantly.
12:47 what???
@@KaseiSpeedruns damn that’s pretty impressive considering how you nailed it, must’ve took a while to master
@@Fallconn2 For 12:47, that's a trick called Load Warping. Whenever you enter a portal that would transition over to another map, you can pause the game. If you load a save during this time, the game will load the save you choose (giving you the same inventory as that save) but put you wherever the portal is taking you because the new location loads faster than loading the save.
Think of it as a way to warp around to different saves. We save at Mantis because we want to kill her later in the run using Fusion Cannon. So to do this, we make a save there, then when we have the Fusion Cannon on a different save, we:
1. Load the Mantis save
2. Enter the Mantis boss portal
3. Press pause as it loads, then load the save that has Fusion Cannon
We now enter Mantis boss room on a save that is much farther ahead in the game with more keys and weapons, making that fight trivial.
@@KaseiSpeedruns what????
This shit really gave me a headache !!
I AM TUROK!!
Man this brings me back to being a kid. 🤣
